"Syntaur's head tech Carlos Morales unboxes and shares his first impressions of the new Novation Summit synthesizer. Then Syntaur's Kenneth Frost gives the Summit a test drive, trying out a few of it's factory presets. The Summit is a 16-voice, digital/analog hybrid synthesizer. With three Oxford oscillators per voice, dual analog filters, and the ability to route external audio through it's stunning stereo effects (Analog Distortion, Chorus, Delay, and Reverb), the Summit is one of the best synths of 2021.
"Recently got Quadra from Cherry Audio, a modern software recreation of the ARP Quadra. In a way it's a pretty limited instrument, but that's what the Quadra was. You got four basic elements—bass, strings, poly synth, and lead synth—and they all had a few controls for each, some more than others. The beauty of the Quadra was that for the price of one instrument you had access to all of those sounds, so in a sense it was a real bargain back in the day.
The Cherry Audio Quadra does a good job of recreating the instrument, and it adds a number of things, as usual. There are more effects modules, an arpeggiator, and programmable keyboard zones for separate or overlapping sounds, for example. And pitch and mod wheels (!). And the thing sounds darn good.
This tune was originally supposed to be just the four pure tracks, one for each of the Quadra sections, all my own patches of course. But I couldn't leave it be and had to add a fifth track with another lead section, and I couldn't leave well enough alone and had to make it an impure not-Quadra-only track by adding a pedalboard and a Nembrini Audio Sound Master amp simulator. Just had to get that biting lead sound. Because that's how I roll. As usual. And I make no apologies for it either!
So bottom line, Quadra from Cherry Audio sounds great. I never had an ARP Quadra back in the day, but now I've got those sounds.

"I'm back in the home studio wardrobe! :D For this Friday morning modular synth jam I connected my newly set up 4MS POD X 48hp Eurorack system to Gotharman's Urano. The Pittsburgh Micro Sequence B module sequences the Erica Bassline Acid voice, as well as two Urano stereo voices. Urano provides another synth voice and internally sequenced drum samples, master clock, Delay and Bit Crush FX. The Happy Nerding FX AID XL adds some black hole reverb on top. Modulation comes from the Flame Joystick then and also some internal Gotharman random genrators and LFOs."

1.The cap is not the original one. Was ordered to do 2.The power cord cover is not 3. It has taps on the wood in several places and heavy wear in a back corner. It is a replaceable job. The ribbed black part below is in good condition. That would have been more difficult to repair. 4. The volume knob is missing. 5. Missing 2 caps from the sliders: 1 from the VCF and one from the VCA 6. The sliders are hard. They go up and down but they need to be smoothed out. 7. String 2 sound selector does not work 8. The Portamento Ribbon needs to be replaced. 9. The feet and the Volume pedal are missing either. 10. All internal parts are complete 11. The last time I turned it on it sounded but like with portamento or glissando on all the time

"Ho-Ho-Ho! This is Synthmas '21, the virtual calendar presenting a Christmas carol played by synthesizers - every day from 1st to 24th of December.
The song:
One of the best known German carols was written in 1895 by parson Eduard Ebel. The melody is most likely a traditional folk song.
The gear:
The lead melody is played by the Vermona Synthesizer from 1983. This two oscillator mono synth got nicknamed "Zonen-Moog" while "Zone" refers to the eastern zone of Germany where this synth was produced. Because of the import embargo for electronic parts produced in capitalist countries all circuitry had to be designed from scratch. However, these mostly discrete designed oscillator and filter ciruits give the synth a warm analog and unique sound.
In this stoned song's version Vermona synth is accompanied by Blofeld bringing a deep bass and Deepmind adding some dazed background harmonies.

"Peradam is an analog distortion module with an internal sidechain, like a compressor's twisted brother. The input signal is split up in a main signal that goes into a VCA, and side-chain. The side-chain is first phase modulated, and then ring modulated by itself, to create a signal at twice the frequency of the original. This signal then modulates the amplitude of the VCA, creating complex self distortions in the main signal.
That output then goes into a dual band drive circuit, similar to the one found in Cosmix, before entering a soft clipper output stage. Things get really wild when you start feedbacking this output back into the input, creating very rich feedback tones.
The module even goes into self oscillation at high feedback levels, producing all sorts of crazy sounds. Modulating all these parameters gives a broad palette of distortions, from subtle saturation to massive clipping and complete destruction.
Need a bit more drive? There's a handy +6dB gain switch on the input for that.
A blend slider allows you to further dial in your tones, and mix in the distortion to taste.

"Messor is an analog stereo compressor with lots of tricks up its sleeve in only 8HP. From squashing drums, sidechaining kicks and sculpting transients, to glueing a mix together, it's a very versatile dynamics manager.
At its core it's a VCA based feed-forward compressor with a low noise signal path. The magic is in the internal sidechain that shapes the gain reduction envelope. This starts with a a switchable high-pass / low-pass filter, before going into a precision envelope follower, controlled by familiar parameters: the attack, release, threshold, ratio and makeup gain.
The ratio can go past limiting and into over-compression, which can completely reshape transients, a great tool for sound design.
Being modular, of course there are CV inputs for Attack, Release and the side-chain Filter cutoff. The Gain CV controls the makeup gain, but also doubles as a Stereo VCA with the Gain knob turned fully CCW.
The gain reduction envelope is also available as an output, for turning filters or other VCA's into compressors for example, or as a standalone envelope follower.
There's a bypass switch, and a Warm mode, that can bring in a bit of additional saturation and compression in the form of analog tube simulation circuitry. Lastly there's the possibility to insert an external sidechain, for that classic kick sidechain compression.
