Mini Synth Orchestra “MSO-1” in Custom Cabinet

video upload by Brittle stR music

via this auction

"All units are used but in excellent condition, mounted in a custom cabinet. All cables, power supplies, original boxes and manuals are included. There’s even a spare 13A socket in the rear-mounted plug board to power your controller, or another mini instrument. The cabinet has room for something like a Pocket Operator or 1010Music Nanobox, and a spare stereo channel in the mixer. All units sit firmly, held in by gravity.

What you hear in the video is the MSO-1 recorded in stereo, with only some compression and EQ to tame the bass. All spatial FX come from the MSO-1. The NTS-1 has the deep atmospheric effects featured in Korg’s ‘logue synths, and can receive 3rd party oscillators and FX algorithms. The M100 has some of TC Electronic’s high quality reverbs in a small box!

UK bidders only please.

Korg Volca Bass (synth)
Korg Volca Keys (synth)
Korg NTS -1 (synth)
TC Electronic M100 (FX)
Behringer Xenyx 802 (mixer)
Keyboard not included."

Creating sounds on the OB-6 from scratch (No Talking) Synth Demo

video upload by MR TUNA Music

"There is no method to this video, just 5 minutes of free sound design on the Sequential Circuits OB-6. Sometimes it's just fun to see where inspiration takes you. I try to touch on all the main features of the OB-6, including x-mod, the notch filter, and some nice internal effects. All sounds from OB-6, no compression or extra effects added."

Song for Ukraine

video upload by Woody Piano Shack

"Like everyone in the world,
I am shocked and horrified by recent events.

I wrote "Song For Kataryna" years ago
for the people of Pripyat and Chernobyl.

I hope it is appropriate to play it again now.

Your country is not far from where I live
and I think of you as neighbours.

You are in my thoughts every minute of the day.

To the brave citizens of Russia who risk everything
to protest against the war

I salute you, and thank you.
Continue to be strong.

To the peaceful people of Ukraine who
are enduring a terrifying ordeal

And those fighting to defend their country

I give you my heart and hopes."

No Pop No Fun by Chinaski

"Preview the album here.

For an understanding of the past, you have to look to the future – or was it the other way round? No matter how you want to put it, some things are an aesthetic choice, and the meaning of style does not necessarily go hand in hand with the latest fashion fad or an incurable retromania. Chinaski’s debut (album under that name) on Running Back seems predestined to resume these discussions. Drenched in sepia colors and faded VHS tapes memories, fed by a science-fiction that never became a fact, essentially made with the ultramodern instruments of yesteryear (see back cover for further reference) that became redundant through their own relatives and a need to ensure efficiency (time, space, money), it’s either concept art, an ode to Disco Piu, a post card from the early days of Frankfurt’s Dorian Gray or the search and itch for a time machine.

All of the debate above is rendered useless by the title though: No Pop, No Fun! And those are the main musical reference points here: instrumental pop that you can dance to, pastel melodies that stick with you and fun frequencies. Live annotated performance: Buchla 208c Easel Command avant-garde synthesizer electronic music

video upload by EthanJamesMusic

"I am using the Buchla 208c music Easel Command along with the Make Noise 0-ctrl as a stand in for the 218 touch controller and wanted to explore how to use a patch that my 3 year old son put together. I am using annotations to try to teach some of my thought process when I'm making these improvisations. This is entirely live and unrehearsed. The goal of this piece of electronic music was to find musical ways to use the combination of the Pulsar to pitch with the Envelope Generator to Timbre in the complex oscillator. I was able to pull off his favorite sounds: Ambulance and Truck Motor. The combination of the two modulations allows me to create some interesting rhythmic concepts. This is a relatively simple patch and doesn't need many connections to get something that can sound extremely complex. I am using the west coast technique of starting with something and spinning it out like a centrifuge. I'm processing the sound through a few eurorack modules that I will detail below. Hopefully this camera angle also helps you learn something!

Patch Notes:
Buchla 208c Easel Command audio to 4ms Tapographic Delay to Make Noise X-pan controlled by Intellijel Quadrax and Tangle Quartet. Audio from Eurorack output to Boss RC-5 loop pedal and Eventide H9 reverb.
Live patching: in annotations"

Zen & the Art of Synthesizer Maintenance - Tracking Early Korg Serial Numbers

Supporting member Electropict wrote in to let us know about their website Zen & the Art of Synthesizer Maintenance, and specifically an interesting project they took up during the lockdown.

"Whilst under pandemic lockdown last year, I started compiling information on early Korg serial numbers, which has gradually turned into a group of pages with about two thousand of them, of which about eighteen hundred have Matrixsynth references. (I think my curiosity got the better of me.)

There are, at last count, forty-four potential corrections, some of which are very interesting imho, and many of which are only obvious once you've understood the early Korg systems. (Hopefully these pages will be a useful reference in future, for anyone interested.)

The main page of all early Korg serials Iʼve found, which I'm updating about once a week:

The original idea, considering MS-20s in more detail, in its own page:

And a page about one of the more interesting corrections - two MS-20s with the same serial number."

Be sure to see the rest of Zen & the Art of Synthesizer Maintenance for additional synth resources while there.

Custom White Roland SH-101 w/ Blue LEDs

via this auction

" Modded by Funkagenda, paint job by, here we have a Pearl WHITE Roland SH-101. Visually stunning, no mistake? Cool blue LEDs make a statement, for sure. There are VERY few in this colour, with these extra specifications......

There are extra features now on board eg audio input, LFO clock in....dial in the FM synthesis, and the most weird/bonkers sounds are generated...something totally unexpected!

Condition is "mint". This synth is 40 years old. It has NOT been played very much at all. Normally, the faders/knobs are 'getting on a bit, like...'....not THIS one. The power switch is the usual suspect re failing; it is absolutely faultless. Synth really feels like brand spanking new! Package is complete with 220V PSu, although the synth will beaver away with only x 6 "C" type batteries personal synthesis audio/sequencing easily accomplished via headphones......"

Behringer Introduces $49 JP-4000 Spirit Mini Hybrid Modeling Synthesizer

Design cues from the Roland JP-8000. JP-4000 for 4 voice poly vs 8.

Also see the ProVS Soul. It looks likes Behringer has a new mini synth format.

"When Uli was 16, he built his first synthesizer because he couldn’t afford to buy one. This experience defined his later career to build musical equipment and make it affordable for everyone.

It was his dream to one day deliver a synthesizer everyone could afford so kids could be introduced to music at an early stage. This could spark a lifelong love affair for electronic music and the art of music synthesis.

This day has come. Today we’re launching the JP-4000, an extremely powerful and portable 4-Voice Hybrid Paraphonic Synthesizer with 2 Analog Modelling Oscillators per Voice, Analog Filter, Arpeggiator and OLED.

Power the JP-4000 via your phone and connect it to your headphones or play it via USB/MIDI keyboard and a PA or recording system. Don’t let the small size fool you - it’s a full blown synthesizer in a micro package.

What’s under the hood?
- Programmable 4-voice hybrid synthesizer with 2 analog modelling oscillators per voice
- Analog filter for warm and natural sound
- Reproduction of the JP-8k sound engine with Supersaw waveform
- Additional 2-operator FM engine for unparalleled sound possibilities
- Authentic 12-bit DAC for classic sound
- 32 memory presets, expandable via SynthTribe app
- 16 touch-sensitive keys for great playability
- Arpeggiator with 3 patterns and hold function
- Individual envelopes for filter and amplifier for creative sound shaping
- 2 powerful LFO’s to control filter and oscillator tuning
- 6 function buttons and bright OLED display for easy and immediate parameter editing
- USB Micro connector allows powering via smartphone, power bank or computer
- Comprehensive USB/MIDI implementation (including NRPN/CC control of all parameters and bulk load/save)

Best of all, we’re targeting US$ 49 and shipping in June from our factory. This is a very happy and meaningful moment - the simple reason why we love what we do."

Fun with the Korg opsix - Way more flexible than the Yamaha DX-7

video upload by Friendly Noise

"A video playing a single preset of the Korg opsix. The little opsix is much more than the traditional DX-Series FM from Yamaha. The basic sound is maybe a little different, maybe because of different DAC converters, but the Korg offers incredible programming possibilities beyond the original DX sound engine. The interface is not perfect, but specially the sliders for operator level and the rotary knobs for operator frequency allow for a practical, fast and fun way of editing the sounds."
