The Octave CAT synthesizer: a detailed demo and tutorial

video upload by CatSynth TV

"We present a detailed look at the infamous Octave CAT synthesizer. Released in the mid-1970s, it was similar in many ways to the Arp Odyssey and Minimoog, but had several unique features such as blending waveforms, sub octaves, and cross modulation. These give it a unique sound that ranges from powerful analog synth bass to wild combinations of frequency modulation. And of course, it is called "CAT" so we have to review it. This is the way.

00:14 History of the Octave CAT and Octave Electronics
01:17 Presenting the Octave CAT MK 1
02:13 Oscillator demos
05:50 VCF demos (including modulation)
10:17 Oscillator hard sync
12:43 Frequency Modulation

Shoutout to SyntheticDreamscapes.com for overhauling our CAT Mk1 to get it ready for this demo and use in upcoming music projects.

EEHs Natural Sound Store Unit Zaunkönig Brochure - The FIRST Sampler w/ Realtime Time Stretching

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

This one was spotted and sent in via M Me. I beleive this to be the first post to feature the Zaunkönig/Zaunkoenig. EEH also made the Banana and the DS 500. I just like saying they made the banana. See the EEH label for more. Why it wasn't yellow or even yellowish green, we will never know...

via this auction

"Original brochure, allegedly only 2 devices were built. FIRST sampler with realtime time stretching. Was bought by Akai and in a stripped down version, without realtime, for the S 1000. So the wren is the father of the Akai S 1000"

Update: you can find an article in German on the Zaunkonig here.

Update2: scan of the brochure added below along with a close-up pic of the front of the Zaunkönig, in via an anonymous reader. Also some interesting background added.

video upload by SynthAddict

"HWJ SynthAddict 15 min set (with live tweaks)

Fun use of my new buddy the Maschine+ with lots of custom tweaks and special samples.

As I had to bridge 3 separate jams made tonight, I played a live 'bridging' sound from my MC-101 as I loaded each set."

Dtronics DT7 Controller for Yamaha DX7

I believe the listing is for the controller only. Posting as I thought the shot was interesting. Most pics are posed so to speak. This one kind of brings you into the raw space. It also gives you a sense of size and positioning in this particular case. You don't see them too often so thought it worth a post.

Vintage Roland GR-300 Guitar Synthesizer SN 424885 w/ Craig Anderton Mod & Plastic Cover

video upload by Lyricon

"Quick and rough test of functionality of a Steinberger GL2T-GR electric guitar (equipped with the Roland 24 pin controller circuitry) and a Roland GR300 Analog Guitar Synthesizer."

via this auction

"This is an original and fantastic sounding Roland GR-300 Guitar Synthesizer from the 1980s. It has the Craig Anderton external Vibrato controller input modification so you can control vibrato depth from a control voltage foot pedal.

It is in very good physical condition and works perfectly. It still has the protective plastic cover. I’ve had this unit since 1994 and only used it a few times a year in a studio."

NYMPHES / An Outdoors Sacred Performance by OMEGA dB

video upload by Dreadbox

"We are so happy and excited for this collaboration with OMEGA dB

'It's wonderful to be able to take your favourite synths with you and be inspired by magical places. This time, I have brought with me my Dreadbox NYMPHES with OP-Z and a Powerbank to power it.

I have been to “L’Ermita de La Trinitat”, a sacred place on the heights of the “Parc Natural del Garraf” in Sitges, a beautiful place with views of the Mediterranean Sea surrounded by pine forests.

This was a part of my happening. From here to Greece with love.'

TASTY CHIPS GR-1 - Scratching the Surface

Part 1 (ambient) video upload by Megan Leber

"This is the first part of a little series I'll record with the Tasty Chips Electronics GR-1. I loooove granular synthesis and this machine is a beast! I'm just scratching the surface here, so I'll definitely record some more videos in the future where I'll be using more complex settings (and the modular of course!). Enjooooy!"

TASTY CHIPS GR-1 - Scratching the surface - Part 2 (techno)

"The long awaited part 2! Jamming with the Tasty Chips GR-1 (not MIDI synced) and playing with the LFO's. Later I recorded an improvised piece with my Roland TR-8S to give it some context. Enjoy!"

Haken Audio - EaganMatrix Module - Testing Processor Presets

video upload by EaganMatrix Programming

"The HakenAudio Eurorack EaganMatrix module is not only a CV and MPE midi controlled physical modelling synth (supporting many other sound generation models) but also can function as a DSP audio processor. The Module comes with a number of Audio Processing presets in the 'Processor' category that you send Audio to through the L/R Audio input ports. These range from reverb and delays to Karplus Strong and FeedBack Network Delay processing options (many more options will likely be available in future releases and you can easily create your own in the EaganMatrix (certainly a heck of a lot easier than writing your own DSP processing code).

I thought I'd test them all using a filtered, envelope generator shaped noise pulse (which is ideal for some of the Karplus and Delay network examples). Some of them don't do much on a short noise pulse so at the end I run them on constant filtered noise as well.

No talking on this one. Just stepping through the presets sending the noise pulses and then playing with some of the Macro Controls that change various parameters of them in real time - which you can do from the module with the Rotary or through the Haken Editor or using a Midi Controller. But this test is all CV and Audio controlled."
