Analogue Solutions Maximus | A True Polyphonic Synthesizer

video upload by Analogue Solutions

"Here are several sound demos and examples of the Maximus polyphonic synthesizer.

We have included a variety of sound types, but given the vast sonic possibilities and features of the Maximus, demos will need to be spread across several sessions to grasp the scope of what this synthesizer can achieve.

This video includes examples of warm pads, sequenced chords, leads, fifths, bass lines, multi-part performances, and combo keys (bass + pads)."

50 Tempera Custom Patches [Bank 1] by synth_nyc

You can find hi-res demos on https://synthnyc.com

Some info on the set via synth_nyc

"As with my Kaivo custom patches, this sound bank only uses Factory Samples.

The Tempera has several workflows. I’m focussing my sound bank on having the Tempera sound generated by an external keyboard (Emitters are configured in ’Toggle’ placement mode), and also on having tonal patches.

The way Beetlecrab Audio implements granular synthesis is very interesting IMHO, it really shines in generating controlled random sounds (!), I mean it creates easily a rhythm or pattern if you’d like in the patch, but with random changes. A bit like a random ARP would do on a chord. The result is very musical IMHO. If you add that this randomness can be placed in the stereo field (L/R or Center/Middle) with some Jitter (or not). And that you can scan tracks vertically (Y) and / or several tracks horizontally (X) - up to 8 with up to 4 Emitters; the possibilities are endless.

Many of my patches scan tracks vertically (Y) only as I found that already creates a great novel soundscape, but several patches scan several tracks horizontally as well (that’s the ones with a XY suffix in the Patch Name)

It would be possible to create some of this controlled randomness if you were to use Korg Wave Sequencing 2.0 and add some randomness to each Step using the Probability parameter, but you would not be able to go as far as the Tempera.

The most interesting results IMHO are with samples that present spectral changes (across time) or temporal changes (gap, etc…) across time and with a fixed pitch. Though I’ve used some samples that had pitch changes (the FX is also interesting) and no (clear) pitch.

Lastly, unlike my experience with other synthesis where I can hear in my head the sound result before adjusting a parameter, with Beetlecrab Audio implementation of Granular Synthesis, sometimes the result is unpredictable (at least to me) but often musical."

Introducing IOLabs Particles - Touchscreen Physics Simulator for Eurorack

video uploads by IOLabs

A new module from the makers of Flux. IOLabs Particles is currently live on Kickstarter here.

Video Playlist:
IOLabs Particles: Touchscreen Physics Simulator for Eurorack!
IOLabs Particles: Centered Gravity Quantize Demo
IOLabs Particles: Collision Physics Demo

"Live on Kickstarter from Jan 31st 2024!

Our new module offers the possibility to create music using our creative physics engine. Add particles, animated surfaces, portals, black holes and generate gates on collisions, CV output voltages & quantized melodies!

Each particle can have entirely unique physics parameters including acceleration, velocity, mass & gravity! All interact in your simulation to create collisions and XY positional data that can be mapped to generate musically useful gates, voltages & notes. Collisions for some particles may even be switched off so that they move freely around the screen without colliding with other simulation elements.

Multiple quantize zone maps can be used simultaneously to create chords and multiple particles may be mapped to the same output to allow transposition of melodies. CV outputs can be set to send a transposed voltage from another output for easy chord generation.

One particle can control all outputs or all particles (up to 50) can control one output, and anything in between. As with Flux, we have aimed to keep the module as flexible as possible. All simulations can be drawn from scratch using the touchscreen or simulations can also be crafted in fine detail by inputting exact values in the UI.

Multiple external and internal timed resets can be used simultaneously per particle to sync to external equipment or create repetition and complex rhythms as explored in the demo video.

Endless rhythmic and melodic possibilities await!

Please note - the module's hardware itself obeys the real world laws of physics as is in no danger of floating away from your case should you experiment with gravity values. It should however be held in place by mounting screws (just in case)."

NAMM 2024: Shear Electronics Relic - No Talking

video upload by sonicstate

"The journey of the Shear Electronics Relic has been a long one, first seen back in 2017 - a young lad Jacob Shear had a project he was showing, which back then was pretty ambitious, an analog Oberhiem clone (before everyone elses!).

A couple of iterations and a redesign later, its nearing completion and we were finally able to hear it in action. In this video Jacob and Jim Heywood of @EarmonkeyMusic flip some presets so we can get to hear the unique instrument.

There are very few units, each being built to order, but you can put your name down, the price is expected to be in the region of $6500 with units coming online in March 2024.

NAMM 2024: Modal Carbon8 Sounds Only

video upload by sonicstate

"Jim Heywood from Earmonkey music responded to multiple requests via our Instagram comments to take a closer look at the Modal Electronics Carbon8.

It looks like after a period of uncertainty, that Modal will be back, and the Carbon8 will be in production.

Carbon 8 employs over 40 complex waveform algorithms, and is geared towards the more aggressive and modern spectrum of sounds. With two discrete oscillators, the Carbon 8 has a similar form factor to earlier Modal Synths, but has a new mixing stage with independent level controls for each oscillator."

Elektron Digitone "hypha"

video upload by Benjamin Brodie

"Combining deep FM synthesis with a familiar subtractive synthesis signal flow, the Elektron Digitone is an amazingly powerful 8-voice synth. And with Elektron's acclaimed sequencing onboard, your creative potential is practically unlimited. Digitone is ready to create with four independent synth tracks, each with a 4-operator FM synth engine featuring eight different FM algorithms. Those algorithms — along with pretty much everything else — can be locked to different values for each sequence step. Factor in four MIDI tracks, an arpeggiator for each track, two LFOs per synth voice, multimode filtering, and built-in effects, and the Elektron Digitone may just be the FM synth you've always wanted to perform with.

The complex timbres and sonic animation you can create with FM synthesis make it a unique method of sound creation, and Digitone presents it in a welcoming fashion. Each of the four synth tracks features its own 4-operator FM synth engine with eight algorithms. Elektron gave Digitone a familiar subtractive synthesis-style workflow that makes tweaking these voices fun and intuitive. And with the potential to lock a different synth sound into every sequence step, Digitone offers far more sonic potential than most 8-voice synthesizers — or most FM synths in general for that matter.

The elusive song of the desert, caused by grains of sand rubbing against each other, is nature’s own FM synthesizer. Sometimes roaring, sometimes wailing, always enchanting. Enter the alluring dunes of Digitone: a compact synthesizer that fits snugly at home, in the studio, and on stage.

FM synthesis occurs when you modulate the pitch of one oscillator with another, to achieve rich and unexpected timbres. The ratio and rate of modulation impact the resulting sound. Digitone uses four oscillators, or operators, per voice. A particular configuration of operators is called an algorithm. For classical FM synthesis, it ends here.

With the Digitone, you get to shape, enrich and modulate the sound even further, using the powers of subtractive synthesis. Use the multimode filter with its custom envelope to soften or pronounce the wild overtones. Cut off the low, mid, or high frequencies. Sculpt with style and precision. Define the sound decisively using the full-featured amp envelope. Carve the contour of the sound.

You can add more movement to the sound using an LFO or two. Set any sound-shaping parameter in automated, repeated motion. At a very slow or a very fast speed, using a variety of different waveshapes, including a random one. Make your sound sway gently like the ocean, or flutter like a butterfly."
