An Interview with Synth Artist Dan McPharlin on 7 Electrons

Many of you will recognize the creative works of Dan McPharlin from posts here on MATRIXSYNTH.  Terry of 7 Electrons wrote in to let us know they recently interviewed Dan.

"He's an artist primarily but is also a musician and synth head so there's some serious synth content in the interview. Also of interest to your readers, he contributed artwork to the moments lost project (by analog sweden) of music inspired by bladerunner."

You'll find the interview on 7 Electrons here.  You can find Dan McPharlin's website here.

Dan McPharlin Inspired Circuit Bent Yamaha PSS-30 Dream Machine

via this auction

Videos here and here.

Those of you that have been coming to this site over the years might remember Dan McPharlin's miniature synth art. According to noystoise this was commissioned to look like one of his creations and it sure does.

"Wow. this is definitely the longest project i have worked on to date. i began this commission shortly after the "Hartman Mod Job" last february. i was contacted by a guy who was interested in having me build a synthesizer for him that looked like one of Dan McPharlin's miniatures. it sounded like fun and there were some new applications that i was anxious to try out so i agreed. the initial idea was to build a mini synthesizer with a detachable keyboard and as many controls and effects as i could fit. i decided to be courageous and model the toy synth on the notoriously stubborn yamaha pss-30."

You'll find full details on noystoise here.

Click the top pic above for the super size shot.  The pic to the left unfortunately is not as large.

See the Dan McPharlin and noystoise labels below for more.

Trash_Audio & Xart Synth Event 9

Full details on TRASH_AUDIO

Giving these a TAX label for TRASH_AUDIO and Xart - TAX. Kind of fitting now that RSVPs are $20. Events take time, effort and money folks.

"Synth Event 9 will be structured to offer personal time with manufacturers, have the manufacturers themselves give demonstrations and have artist from both coasts of the country share how they use the instruments creatively. Basically – leave your gear at home and come learn something."

AngryOctopus TinyMoog Online Synth

You can find it here.

"I was intending to get this done for Robert Moog’s birthday but didn’t quite get it finished in time. I took the basic MiniMoog layout and tried to pair it down as much as possible to get cute/miniature but still useable and recognizably Moog styled synth. This is the first time I have tried modelling a full 3D interface and I didn’t quite nail the look [Dan McPharlin synth art miniatures] I was after. It’s not quite finished yet as I had to overhaul all my previous GUI code to handle the 3D interface."

The Synthesizer 3000

The Synthesizer 3000 from Matthew Lawless on Vimeo.

"Here is a short product advertisement I had to do for an assignment in Cinema 4D class. I created the synthesizer from scratch and used a mini synthesizer model that Dan McPharlin created. I don't know anything about synthesizers, so the information is about a completely different synth.

I had the hardest time rending this too, well the main reason why it was so difficult was because my school computer would stop rendering every 15minutes. It told me the license had expired on Cinema 4D, so much for an up to date school. Sorry I had to complain. Oh well Enjoy!
