Buchla Inspired Custom DIY Eurorack Modular From Gábor Kakuk

via Gábor Kakuk of Gamma Devices

"Custom made eurorack system, in a 12 mm plywood case (with very dark glaze). The only thing which is not DIY is the power supply, its a 4MS Mini Power. Every module was built on stripboard or on home etched PCB-s, except the Turing Machine, which was ordered from Thonk.

The modules :

- Ersatz Verben Analog Delay
- René Schmitz Dual YASH (modificated version, by me)
- YuSynth MiniMoog VCF
- YuSynth Wavefolder
- FCUK Roland System100M Dual 131 VCA
- Buchla 292f, Fonink clone
- MaxAmp (dual audio to modular converter)
- FCUK Roland System 100M 132 Mixer
- Music Thing Modular Spring Reverb Driver
- YuSynth Dual Arp 4072 VCF
- YuSynth Dual Noise + Sample and Hold
- YuSynth Dual VCO (modded to +/-12V operation, built in "West Coast" stlye
- Music Thing Modular Turing Machine
- René Schmitz Dual Korg MS-20 VCF (LP and HP, PCB layout by Jörg Schmitz)
- NOR Triple LFO (layouts by Niklas Rönnberg)
- YuSynth Dual ADSR (old and new design behind 1 panel)
- YuSynth Dual Steiner VCF"

Fonitronik / Thonk - Cascading Mixer

Published on Dec 4, 2014 DivKidMusic

"Surely one of the best ways to utilise 4HP? I'm starting to think so with how useful this is. 5dB of gain, voltage boosting, inverting, attenuating, mixing, offsets or any combination of those!

Check out the module here -

Fonitronik Cascade 4hp Flexible Mixing & Attenuverting Toolkit on Sale

Follow-up to the video posted here. The Fonitronik Cascade 4hp Flexible Mixing & Attenuverting Toolkit is now available at Thonk.

Some details via the online manual here:

"Back in 2007 I sold DIY PCBs for an attenuverting mixer designed for eurorack. This project eventually turned into the 1st fonitronik product that came into the stores early in 2010. The module provided 4 channels and a final summing stage with a simple RC network to remove DC offset, when desired. Alas, with 12HP the module itself was rather large. Too large for a lot of people today. So I decided to redesign the module and I am now proud to be able to present the successor of the fonitronik mh01 as a DIY project via THONK, the CASCADE triple attenuverting mixer/processor in 4HP only. It does MIX, INVERT, ATTENUATE, ADD GAIN The module provides 3 channels of ‘attenu-gain-vertion’, each with it’s own bicolor LED. The input of each channel is normalled to a voltage source. There are two modes of mixing the three channels , which could be set by a jumper: CASCADE: output of channel #1 is mixed into channel #2 (as long as no cord is patched into output 1), output of channel #2 is mixed into channel #3 (as long as no cord is patched into output 2).
PARALLEL: both the outputs of channel #1 & #2 are mixed into channel #3 (as long as no cords are patched into the outputs).

Again, inputs are normalled to an internal voltage source. As soon as you patch the inputs they are removed from that source. The outputs are normalled to the internal mixing (depending on mode jumper), however, as soon as you patch the outputs they are removed from the internal mixing. This makes this module very versatile. Just guess: when using channel one for attenuverting a signal (Fig. a) you could still use channels 2 & 3 to attenuvert and offset another signal"

T-t-talk to me - An Echophon, Planar and Ribbonz demo

Published on Feb 8, 2014 HardScienceAV

"I just got the Make Noise Echophon and decided to give it a go. This is the result of my first patch. Thought I'd make a video of my experience :)

Here's a basic breakdown: The Flame Talking Synth is going into the Echophon input. I took the aux out of the Echophon into the FoH Sound of Shadows and fed both Echophon and SOS outputs into the Fontronik MH01. There's a lot of modulation going on. The Talking Synth has all of its parameters controlled by the Monde Ribbonz (the ribbon controller at the bottom that you've never seen before) and the Echophon has most of it's parameters controlled by the Intellijel Planar joystick and the ZBK (the big knob in the middle!).

The video was then processed with the LZX Industries video synth.

"This module can route and mix five inputs, each input can be attenuated.

The slider let you select the center channel, when the light turns on, it means you can hear the channel on 2 or 3 of the outputs. Neighbor channels can be faded into the mix with the Rayonnement parameter.

The center output is always the mix of all the selected channels. The two other output are managed by the panoramic processor. 123 is the first mix bloc, 345 is the second mix bloc, those blocs can be panned thru the 2 outputs "

2-18-14 Noodling

Published on Feb 24, 2014 Brandon Smith·21 videos

"Messing with Verbos Hamonic Osc and Voltage Multistage. That slewy sound with the intonation here and there is individual sines going through a Fonik sequential switch and then coming back into the fm in, kinda fun. Voltage multistage (which is being addressed by wogglebug) is modulating the harmonic osc's frequency center. Maths doing some modulation on the harmonic osc's width. Pamela's Workout is clock. Choices over ther is controlling a anti-oscillator's triangle's amplitude and wavefolding level, which is being handled by a triple wave folder."

OneVCO

OneVCO from fonitronik on Vimeo.

"This is what you can do with just one VCO. The 'base drum' is nothing but a short AD fed into the VCOs exp.FM input. later the triangle of the LFO master clock is driving the PWM, faking two detuned VCOs.

The sequence comes from my Binary Game Sequencer (divider based), the filters used are the EFM Korg Delta and Scott Stites Mutant Vactrol Filter at some point..."

TH CMOS ADSR 2 LFO

Published on Aug 4, 2013 fonitronik·25 videos

"Short demo of how to use the TH CMOS ADSR in LFO mode:
in the beginning the ADSR is set to ADSR mode, with attack (A) and decay (D) set full CW. speed range high.
set it to LFO mode and turn the sustain fully CCW to start the oscillation.
i then turn the A & D counterclockwise to approx 9'o'clock and change the speed range to mid, then to low. it even works with A & D fully CCW, however, this might not be useful anyways.

other modules involved: TH X-4046 VCO, Digital Reverb (based on an accutronics module)"
