Sound design tutorial from Stranger Things Eleven using OB-6 and Moog Grandmother

video upload by EthanJamesMusic

"This is a sound design tutorial for how to approach a specific sound that was used in the first season of Stranger Things. I was requested to show how I would make the lead sound that happens in the track "Eleven". The sound is a wet electric piano type of sound, with some wrinkles around the use of filter modulation and reverb..

The Sequential Circuits OB-6 can do a respectable job of coming close to the sound, and I tried to get a Grandmother version to come close. This track does require polyphony, so the Grandmother would have to be multitracked to get the same result.

Analog synthesizers have found a way back into film music, which has led to a lot of rich experimentation of what these instruments are capable of. I think my main takeaway is the heavy use of envelope, and setting the filter modulation much lower than a normal synth pluck would require. Also, having a really dry sound mixed in with lots of ambience really cuts through in a way that creates a strong effect."

Moog ONE - Analog Nylon Guitar #sounddesign #moogone #custom #patches

video upload by Scott McAuley Sounds

"Patches will be available at https://www.orano.co.uk/shop or http://www.synthsounds.co.uk

I set out to try and see how well the Moog One can do acoustic styled instruments, and it again surprised me with how diverse it can be.

this is a singe part instrument, allowing full use of the available voices in your synth.

Yes this is analog, and thus is not a perfect sounding nylon guitar, but bearing in mind this is 100% analog, it is fantastic how well a mixture of ring mod, sync oscillators etc allow us to shape what can sound very close to real life acoustic instrument timbres.

another example of how good this synth really is.

enjoy!"

Robert Moog & Wendy Carlos Interviews on the Moog Synthesizer

video upload by Robotussin Vintage Synths

"Rare little interview CNN did with Robert Moog in the ’90s, when he was living in North Carolina, designing machines as a free agent, having left the synth company he founded. This month would have seen Moog’s 90th birthday, had he not passed away in 2005.

I’ve always loved the man’s humility and straightforwardness. Big love to him and all those who knew him."

Wendy Carlos Interview

video upload by Robotussin Vintage Synths

"Wendy Carlos interviewed on a radio programme presented by Glenn Gould in the late 1960s, inter-spliced by an interview with Canadian writer and senator Jean Le Moyne, who talks about, in Glenn Gould’s words, “the human fact of automation and its sociological and theological implications”.

No copyright held, just posting so people can hear this old piece of audio."

Sound design tutorial from the film Blade Runner 2049 using OB-6 and Moog Grandmother

video upload by EthanJamesMusic

"This is a sound design tutorial for how to approach a specific sound that was used in the film Blade Runner 2049 from 2017 with a score by Hans Zimmer. I was requested to show how I would make the lead sound that happens in the track 'Mesa'. The sound is a wet synth brass type of sound, with some wrinkles, where the pitch is a little further apart than you normal would do for an EDM track or the type of pop 1980s track, where this type of sound was used a lot.

The Sequential Circuits OB-6 can do a respectable job of coming close to the sound. I have no idea what was actually used for the film, but it sounds closer to a CS-80, which now costs over $100,000 used. For this reason, I'm teaching how to make the sound on both OB-6 and the Moog Grandmother.

Analog synthesizers have found a way back into film music, which has led to a lot of rich experimentation of what these instruments are capable of. I think my main takeaway from making this video, is that a lot can be achieved by moving the pitch of two oscillators far apart from each other to create a lot of disturbance in the melody. Also, having a really dry sound mixed in with lots of ambience really cuts through in a way that creates a strong effect.

I hope you learn something from this tutorial, and it gives you some ideas to try out! Please let me know if there are any questions, or if anyone knows what instrument was used on the film. I would guess a Minimoog or similar."

One of my favorite tracks from the 80s.
Subdivisions by the canadian prog rock group Rush, released as the second single from their 1982 album Signals. Written and produced by Rush.

featured: Moog Minimoog, the Oberheim OB-X and the Moog Taurus bass pedals

This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks.
My intention is not to create covers that sound exactly like the original (if you want to hear identical sounds, please listen the original). It's more of an inspiration with my sounds from the old synthesizers from the past and of course the great appreciation for the original performers and producers.
Check out the original songs with the original artists here on YouTube.
Thank you.

Moog One - Epic Split! who says it can't do plucks?!

video upload by Scott McAuley Sounds

"Patches will be available at https://www.orano.co.uk/shop or http://www.synthsounds.co.uk

I have read in so many forums regarding the Moog One's Lack of attack and punch in the envelopes, this split patch aptly called 'SM Epic Split' consists of sizzling bass on the left of the key bed and searing pluck on the right.

Anyone who wrongly believes the moog one to lack in punch especially for plucks , keys & leads can listen to this. it is just as snappy as any other synth I own.

Enjoy!

Moog One - It's diversity is not a myth!

video upload by

"Patches will be available at https://www.orano.co.uk/shop or http://www.synthsounds.co.uk

It's always a pleasure to jump on and start to program or should i say "pilot" this beauty. The diversity of the Moog ONE is outstanding, again I put it through its paces to see how close it could get to the OB6 Broken EP patch, and remarkably it copes very well. With the added bonus of having dual filters and running them in series, it can yield some great results! and similar results to the SEM like sound.

Synth 1 - is the Broken EP sound
Synth 2 & 3 - Binaural Pad

anyway, thought I would share this one.

enjoy!

"Hi, I'm Kim Bjørn, the founder of Bjooks. We're an independent publishing company at the intersection of music, visual arts, history, engineering, and pop culture. My first book was funded via Kickstarter in 2017, and since then we have done two other successful Kickstarter campaigns and released another four books - seven titles in total. We’re deeply privileged to bring this beautiful book to Kickstarter for our loyal readers and enthusiasts everywhere. Your support in making this labor of love a reality will mean the world to us, the music world - and hopefully you as well :)

Moog Minimoog Voyager 10th Anniversary Gold Edition in Ash White Case

"Minimoog voyager 10th anniversary gold edition. This Moog is an enigma…please read on to uncover the details. Here’s what I know. What it is: The electronics are the 10th anniversary gold plated edition. Everything about it indicates that is the case. It has the lighted blue logo on the back and all the earmarkings of the gold plated edition released in 2012. What I don’t know: Why is it in a white ash case? Never seen another like it. Usually, the synth came in a dark case with an anniversary plaque. I have tried to obtain information from Moog but didn’t get far. The synth has a Moog serial number plate on the case however Moog was unable to provide any additional information. The unit functions beautifully and it’s super clean. Comes with custom heavy duty cover. I do not have any paperwork (manual etc.) nor do I have the original box.Includes an AC cord."

Tangerine Dream EXIT Cover

video upload by Jose's Vintage Keys

"With Oberheim OBX - just like the original :-)"

Entanglement

video upload by Martin Peters

"I have been noodling away on the guitar for quite a while now. Looking for new inspiration and musical insights. Doing this I sort of neglecting the synthesizers. I barely touched them since our last Beyond Berlin concert on E-Day in April 2023. In Januari I bought the Behringer Victor module and came up with this music. Last Thursday I switched the synths on again and the music was still in the Cirklon. I added some bits and recorded the music. What you see is the second take because in the first take the Minimoog solo's were not good enough.
It starts with a sequence on the Behringer Victor. Then the bass from the Synthesizers.com modular comes in. After that sequences from the Rob Hordijk OSC HRM, Oberheim SEM, Verbos Harmonic Oscillator, Korg Opsix and DSI Mopho are added. Strings are from the Waldorf Q Keyboard and the solo's from the Moog Minimoog."
