Modular Jam 59 'Sex Drive'
Published on Sep 18, 2016 ngarjuna
Borderline NSFW, so all you peeps at work, be warned! Great track though so be sure to check it out later if you can't now.
"Patch Notes:
Drums, bass and modular percussion elements were from an older session (from before I started keeping patch notes unfortunately). Drums were in Patterning processed through Flux and Filtatron and Replicant. The bass patches were all west coast patches made with 258 VCOs, Optomix and Maths. The modular percussion was also made with the same sort of arrangement (probably being modulated by PEG and Wogglebug...sorry it was a while ago)
Acid Patch 1
Standard-ish acid patch:
Seq 1 driving Rubicon sigmoid into VCF-303
303 EGs out (through Maths for mix) to uVCA
Acid Patch 2
There are two variants, Bandpass (A) and Lowpass (3 pole):
Sequencer 1 triggering Maths ch1 and Dual ADSR (Gate) and Minimod EGs (Accent)
Pitch going to Cranial Saw in sawtooth with a tiny bit of sub
Into Polaris modulated by Rubicon sine (via uVCA modulated by PEG OR) at audio rate in FM1, mix of Wogglebug Stepped Out and Maths ch1 envelope (on gate) and an accent envelope from the Minimod (AD)
Wogglebug smooth providing fall modulation to Maths ch1
Dual ADSR ch1 into Minimod VCA (Gate), Minimod EG2 into Minimod VCA (Accent)
Vocals
All made with the TransVocal Discombobulator (my own little monstrosity made from Uhe Diva, Zynaptiq Morph and Cytomic's The Drop)

Metasonix TX-1 Agonizer Special Edition SN43 of 100
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"One used Metasonix TX-1 SE, that's for special edition. With Power Supply and manual (which tells you all about it and yourself!) This is unit 43 of a limited run of only 100 ever made. If you are looking at this you know what it does, but until you own it, you haven't experienced it. It's the shizzle for distortion. You've also been warned that this unit will blow out your speakers if you aren't careful, no kidding! Very low hours on the tubes, hardly used.
The TX-1 is an analog synth module that incorporates a pair of obscure tubes to create a waveshaper supreme. According to the manual, the harshness of the TX-1 is due to the nonlinear quality of the tubes , and the misuse of the tube's beam modulator in particular.
The Strangle knob does what the name implies: at the highest setting, it chokes off the sound — particularly the hum and original tone as if it is fully shortening the duty cycle of a square wave.
The Grind knob controls a feedback loop that creates instability in the beam modulator.
The CV input can be used to control the Pound circuit, which adds further complexity to the distortion. A typical CV with a 10V range can be sent to this jack, and the most interesting results using the signal from an envelope generator
TX-1 can obliterate any sound going though it. The resulting distortion isn't the light, sweet kind you get from a typical fuzz box. Rather, it's thick and intense and threatens to explode.
The TX-1 can be used in a guitar effects chain but works best with line-level source material that is harmonically rich to begin with (electronic percussion and nasty synth tones being the best). By design, its overall behavior is unpredictable. For example, the controls don't change the sound in a linear way: as you turn a knob, the sound may begin to break up nicely, then clear up a bit, then break up in a different way. But if you think having Level, Pound, Strangle, and Grind at their maximum settings will give you the noisiest, most intense sound, guess again.
TX-1 Special Edition has a switchable highpass filter in the circuit, referred to as Suckbass.
There's nothing polite about the sound of the TX-1. If you think you've heard it all, guess again. For truly rough and messed up sounds, the TX-1 SE Agonizer moves to the front of the line..."

Etsy Closes a Synth DIY Shop
According to Brendan Byrne, Etsy has closed his boutique synth DIY shop. The gist of it sounds like they are questioning how much of his work was made by him. It's an interesting question. Where do you draw the line? You'll find the full story on Brendan Byrne's website here (warning for those with NSFW rules: the site's uses the f-word in the title). You can still find Brendan's profile on Etsy here. Brendan has also been featured a number of times here on MATRIXSYNTH.
"I’ve managed a shop on Etsy for the past 5 months selling electronic devices and synthesizers. I recently resigned from my job to pursue electronics design and fabrication.
Two days ago, my shop was unexpectedly CLOSED and I received an email stating that there was suspicion that I hadn’t constructed my devices by hand. At first I was a bit flattered and followed their instructions to confirm that I had in fact built them myself. I supplied the following photographs…
Shots of my workshop (soldering iron, electronic component cabinets, work bench)
Photos of the device (outside, inside, and the laser etched logo on the back with my etsy shop html link)
Photo of the raw materials used to construct the device (walnut and basswood)
However, they also requested I supply photos of the build process. I didn’t take photos during construction so I didn’t have any. Then I realized this was a more disconcerting request when I noticed NOWHERE in Etsy’s Terms of Use or Do’s and Dont’s page does it say anything like…"
