Ryan Lott: The Creative Potential of Sound

video upload by Soundfly

The above features instrument builing with Native Instrument Kontakt.

"Learn to invent your own digital instruments and use them to compose more evocative, surprising music in Soundfly's premium course, Ryan Lott: Designing Virtual Instruments. Preview the course for free at: http://soundfly.com/ryanlott
--
About the Video:

In this excerpt from our new course, Ryan Lott: Designing Sample-Based instruments, Son Lux composer, songwriter, and producer, Ryan Lott, shares how learning to create his own virtual instruments has become a key element in his creative process. Building instruments from scratch allows Ryan to write music that he can imbue with intentional, emotional meaning, without the associations and expectations that come along with more traditional instrumentation. 'Making your own instruments can be empowering in all the places where working with existing instruments can feel very limiting,' says Ryan of the skills he walks students through in the course.

Watch how Ryan creates and records sounds, processes them, and turns them into playable virtual instruments using Native Instruments' Kontakt and a MIDI keyboard, and then uses those surprising, unfamiliar sounds to inspire a whole approach to making music.
--
About the Course:

Inject a new dose of creativity into your music by composing with your own custom-made digital instruments. In this course, Ryan Lott, composer and bandleader of Son Lux, will show you how to find and construct inspiring, unpredictable sounds, and turn those sounds into playable instruments. Learn to write music in response to instruments that emerge through experimentation, rich with contour and variation. And see what kind of music you can create when you move beyond the limits of traditional instrumentation.

Ryan will walk students through the techniques he uses in his own music and in scores for films including 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' and 'Looper' to catalyze new creative ideas and build music that evokes complex emotions.

This course was designed for producers looking for more control in their sound design, composers who want to add evocative and otherworldly qualities to their music, and anyone in search of an inspiring new tool to drive their songwriting forward.

Maschine+ and Maschine Jam combo demo

video upload by SynthAddict

"Simple demo with some fun live pitch experiments on 2 recent M+ live jams
Track 2 gets more weird and creepy. :-) - see chapters below ...

0:06 Track 1 - MJam played like a Circuit, plain audio
0:39 Track 1 - live pitch experiments, tune mode
5:35 Track 2 - plain audio
5:55 Track 2 - more pitch experiments, tune mode

Just got a Maschine+ and since they added the Maschine Jam compatibility to the M+ I wanted to do some quick pitch experiments that take the M+ to a whole new level without a computer."

KazioTron Keys by Goldbaby

video upload by GoldbabySamples

"Vintage 80s home keyboards recorded to cassette. Available now: https://www.goldbaby.co.nz/kaziotronk...
Think of KazioTron Keys as a Cassette Mellotron with vintage 80s home keyboard tapes."

Kontakt GUI pictured

via Goldbaby

"The warm, lo-fi goodness of cassette tape married to the nostalgia and character of 80s home keyboards. Think of KazioTron Keys as a cassette Mellotron with vintage 80s home keyboard tapes.

Soft, mellow keys. Woozy emotive synths. Dirty, imperfect leads. These sounds are super fun to play.

Gear used: Casio VL1, SK1, MT70, MT18, CT201, CT301 and a sneaky little Yamaha PS3 bass sound. Multiple cassette decks and cassette types. Also, the odd modulation pedals for a little extra mojo. Tracked through 1073 and 501 pre-amps and a valve mixer.

Includes non-cassette versions of each instrument if you want pure vintage home keyboard sounds.

The packs come with patches for Kontakt, Logic Pro, Ableton Live and TAL-Sampler. The Kontakt version has an excellent user interface script.

Every sampler has a different sound and character. So each format will differ slightly from the others. The raw sounds, however, all sound the same in each format. Bear this in mind when listening to the audio demos."

Getting High with the Make Noise Erbe-Verb (music performance)

video upload by Red Means Recording

"I recently got the Make Noise Erbe-Verb, a wild algorithmic reverb that is much more of a sound design effect than a proper reverb. That's ok, I got lots of reverb, I'd rather play with it like it's a crazy friend.

So this jam was a test of how Erbe sounds on drums. I added a TON of new samples to my Erica Synth Sample Drum and will be doing a lot more drum loop worth with it.

Nebulae is also in play, since I just make a bunch of new samples for it using the Native Instruments Arkhis Kontant Library."

Native Instruments Celebrates 25th Anniversary Ultraviolet w/ Vapor Gray Gear & TWENTY FIVE

video upload by Native Instruments

"2021 marks 25 years since we loaded up GENERATOR on a low-cost PC and started work on our vision for the future of sound. So we're celebrating with a very special anniversary drop: six of our most popular hardware devices are now available in two bold new colorways."

Celebrating 25 Years of Native Instruments | Native Instruments

"Back in 1996, we launched GENERATOR, our first ever synthesizer – and also the precursor to REAKTOR. Now, 25 years and countless other instruments later, we’ve been digging through the archives to unearth a sonic time capsule of our most iconic instruments from the past quarter-century.

The limited-edition TWENTY FIVE is a powerful, free instrument designed to let future generations recombine and reimagine our sonic legacy into something entirely new. As part of the KONTAKT Play Series, it comes mapped with intuitive macro controls, powerful FX, and a built-in sequencer.

Download it here: https://www.native-instruments.com/pr...

Check out the 25th Anniversary Collection hardware: https://www.native-instruments.com/sp..."

And the press release:

"Berlin, October 25 2021 – Native Instruments – the company behind groundbreaking music technology products like KONTAKT, MASCHINE, TRAKTOR, and the KOMPLETE portfolio of virtual instruments and effects – today kicks off its 25th anniversary celebrations. To mark the occasion, NI is releasing limited-edition Ultraviolet and Vapor Gray versions of six of its most popular instruments and controllers, alongside a new, free instrument, TWENTY FIVE.

The 25th Anniversary Collection reimagines iconic KOMPLETE, MASCHINE, and TRAKTOR hardware in a choice of either Vapor Gray or Ultraviolet colorways. The striking, monochromatic designs extend to every detail of these instruments and controllers, each of which have been hand-numbered and accented with reflective graphics commemorating NI’s anniversary. The full range encompasses MASCHINE+, MASCHINE Mk3, KOMPLETE KONTROL S49/S61, TRAKTOR KONTROL S4, and TRAKTOR KONTROL X1.

TWENTY FIVE is a new, free instrument for KONTAKT 6 and the free KONTAKT 6 PLAYER. It allows users to sculpt entirely new sounds from combinations of classic presets taken from 37 different instruments across NI’s history. From modern flagship synthesizers, to timeless KONTAKT pianos, and hidden gems from the REAKTOR and GENERATOR archives, TWENTY FIVE is a time capsule of NI’s contributions to digital music making over the past quarter century. As part of the KONTAKT Play Series, TWENTY FIVE comes mapped with intuitive macro controls, powerful FX, and a built-in sequencer.

Says Constantin Köhncke, Native Instruments CEO, “We’re extremely proud of what we have accomplished over the past 25 years. None of this would have been possible without the dedication, passion, and ingenuity of every member of the NI team, both past and present, and – most importantly – our community of creators who have used our products and innovations to create countless contributions to music culture. Their amazing output keeps us inspired every day, and will for the next 25 years.”

“Of course, we couldn’t have achieved what we have without the continued support of the creators who use our products on a daily basis.” adds NI’s Chief Product Officer & President Robert Linke. “TWENTY FIVE is a small token of our appreciation, and we hope this sonic time capsule will help inspire a new generation of creators as they define the sound of the next 25 years.”

Native Instruments is also holding a global producer challenge on its metapop platform, inviting artists to make a track with TWENTY FIVE. A range of NI prizes is up for grabs, with winning entries receiving limited-edition hardware alongside KOMPLETE 13 packages. The competition runs from October 25 to December 31."
