TASTY CHIPS GR-1 - Scratching the Surface

Part 1 (ambient) video upload by Megan Leber

"This is the first part of a little series I'll record with the Tasty Chips Electronics GR-1. I loooove granular synthesis and this machine is a beast! I'm just scratching the surface here, so I'll definitely record some more videos in the future where I'll be using more complex settings (and the modular of course!). Enjooooy!"

TASTY CHIPS GR-1 - Scratching the surface - Part 2 (techno)

"The long awaited part 2! Jamming with the Tasty Chips GR-1 (not MIDI synced) and playing with the LFO's. Later I recorded an improvised piece with my Roland TR-8S to give it some context. Enjoy!"

Tasty Chips Electronics - ECR+

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"This video is a simple presentation of some of the sounds we came across while exploring the ECR+ by Tasty Chips Electronics. There is definitely much more to discover and we look forward to hearing your creations with the ECR+. We have one in our showroom, if you're in town, stop by and check it out.

Tasty Chips have been known for their GR-1 Granular Sampler for years. With their first Eurorack product they have brought something new to the table. Probably the first Stereo Convolution Reverb for Eurorack - the ECR+.

The module is more than just a plain reverb effect. One of the most distinctive features is the ability to load two impulse responses at once, between which you can then crossfade with a knob or by CV. The position of the impulse response, the stereo width and a few other parameters can also be controlled by CV to create even more interesting effects. This, plus the fact that you can load your own impulse responses into the module and even record on it, makes the ECR+ a great tool for sound design and unheard sounds."

Miso Cornflakes | Granular Synth Engine with Harmonizer vs. Arbhar & Morphagene

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I love granular synthesis and I felt I had enough modules and hardware to scratch every granular itch. Miso (Denmark) introduced the Cornflakes a year ago, but I did not feel it would add something to my Arbhar, Nebulae, Morphagene, Clouds, Beads, BitBox and the mighty GR-1 from Tasty Chips. Not to mention the awesome PC software... I was so wrong. This little gem is worth checking out, especially if you're thinking about your first granular module."

"The GR-1 is a granular hardware synthesizer. Creating textures, characteristic sounds, drones, soundscapes, pads has never been easier. When you are working on a unique sound, it’s always nice to have hands-on controls to easily dial in the sweet-spots. The possibility to quickly adjust any parameter of your sound is necessary to adapt to the workflow of any user. Trace every adjustment you make with the built-in 7″ full colour display that is typically only found in top class synthesizers."

ESK - Haken Continuum + Tasty Chips GR-1

video upload by Metunar

"The Haken Continuum Fingerboard as a Midi controller for a Tasty Chips Electronics GR-1 granular synthesizer. I play 3 different sounds. In the middle part i use the internal delay as looper.

This Continuum is a an old Midi only version. The sensitivity is not so good as the new ones. No external effects are used.

#Jamuary2022 | Day 24 | Tasty Chips GR-1

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I'm taking the opportunity during Jamuary2022 to use more exotic stuff you may not see on the regular modular videos. Today it's time to fool around with the Tasty Chips GR-1 granular synthesizer. It's usually in a closet next to the ARP2600, Lyra-8 and Pulsar-23 because I don't have space in my homestudio but hopefully this will change this year when the lab gets a real studio. Wow, I made 24 days - and again I have no idea what to do tomorrow."

Elektron Digitone, Tasty Chips GR-1 and Strymon Nightsky

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"Ma poichรฉ quella promessa non metteva vere radici nella sua coscienza, alla prima pioggia veniva trascinata via dalla corrente e si perdeva chissร  dove.
(H. Murakami, 1Q84)

Technical notes:
In this video I live-looped the Digitone sequence with GR-1 which runs a granular patch I made for this dronish track (LFO on Position and Spray).
The live recording runs on 3 different voices: one is in the original key, the second one is an octave above and the third one is a 5th above. I use them to build to track together with the Shimmer of the Nightsky.
Routing: Digiton into GR-1 through USB (audio-interface), GR-1 into Nightsky."

Ambient jam with the Tasty Chips GR-1, Sequential Take 5, and Strymon NightSky

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Please support my work on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/jayhosking
A live, semi-improvised track performed entirely on hardware.

There are few options for granular synthesis in the hardware world. The Tasty Chips GR-1 has the right level of control, via its knobs and faders, and visual feedback, via its generous screen, to make granular synthesis fast, fun, and hands-on. Plus it's got 11-voice polyphony, four different timbres to play all at once, a dedicated filter on each timbre, and some effects for in a pinch. Not only can you create granular synth sounds, but you can also play looped "clouds" of the sample, or just straight sample playback at different rates, pitches, and directions. In short, the GR-1 overcomes all my issues with using software granular on (for example) my iPad, and makes the process just as fun as using subtractive synthesis.

Speaking of subtractive synths, the Take 5 continues to be a gem. Considering it's an introductory synth in the Sequential line-up, it is an amazing sounding synth with an excellent design, a nice keybed, and useable effects. It's rare to find a polysynth with a strong low end, but the Take 5 really can fill out the spectrum. I love it.

This track is the result of my Patreon's holiday collaboration, in which we all sent samples to a recipient, and received samples from a "secret syntha", and made songs from these samples. It culminated in a listening party on New Year's Eve and was a ton of fun. Thanks so much to Som Shankhar (pad sample) and jean-louis proust (drum sample) for the inspiration and the loops here!

Tasty Chips GR-1 - Three granular loops (piano, pad, sparkle) and one playback loop (drums)
Strymon NightSky - Reverb for the GR-1
Sequential Take 5 - Main synth pad

Performed and recorded live, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master."

Ambient jam with the Dreadbox Nymphes, Tasty Chips GR-1, Strymon NightSky, and Empress Reverb

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised track performed entirely on hardware.

Dreadbox was kind enough to send along the Nymphes a little early to me, and I couldn't have been more excited. While I have the Abyss, I've been hoping for a new Dreadbox polysynth that's more widely available for a long time.

And the Nymphes doesn't disappoint. It's unbelievably small but with a super sturdy build and great fader throw lengths. It has a lot of secondary functions but it's dead easy to navigate, and still feels more hands-on than the Dreadbox Typhon (another great small synth). And most importantly of all, it has a beautiful sound with tons of character and some great particular nooks and crannies in its timbres. A warm analog polysynth the size of a paperback book? I love it.

I've also got lots to say on the Tasty Chips GR-1, but I'm planning to do a video with it in the near future, so more then. Suffice it to say for now that I love it and that it's a perfect companion for ambient work.

Dreadbox Nymphes through Strymon NightSky — Main synth
Tasty Chips GR-1 through Empress Reverb — Ambient granular goodness
Arturia Keystep — MIDI controller for the Nymphes

Performed and recorded live, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master."

Tasty Chips GR-1 (mutlitimbral mode)

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"Four different granular layers for a multi-timbral unique polyphonic synth.
P.s.
I wasn't experimenting with any new piano techniques with my left hand right at the beginning: it's just that I find creative ways not to cover the camera view while shooting."

Creative Reverb | Versio family | Tasty Chips ECR-1 & ECR+

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Hi all! This video is about having fun with creative, realistic and totally unreal reverbs. It's no secret I love reverbs a lot more than VCA's and I can't have enough of them. This video features Imitor Versio, Desmodus Versio, the Tasty Chips ECR-1 and it's successor, the ECR+. Have fun!"

Please note my video's are not sponsored and I don't use monetizing because I hate adds. If you want to support my work, check out my ever growing album on Bandcamp: https://cinematiclaboratory.bandcamp...."

Tasty Chips ECR+ Eurorack Convolver Demonstration

video upload by Tasty Chips

"A demonstration of the Tasty Chips Electronics eurorack module:
The ECR+ Eurorack Convolver.

Convolution works with Impulse Responses, which can be added to the ECR+ via USB. This means it is not limited to just reverberation IR's. IR's could also be something like delays, filterbanks, resonators and even recordings directly into the module itself. This versatile device is a great addition to any Eurorack setup and sparks a ton of creativity.

Chapters:
0:00 Intro
0:16 Micrograins with Resonator IR's
2:45 Guitar loop with Large Hall IR's
4:40 Drum loop with various SFX IR's
6:05 Transitional effects with ECR+
6:58 Jungle loop with SFX IR's
7:59 Arpeggio's with Large Ambience IR's
10:13 Arpeggio's with Delay IR's"
