Folktek "Sound Field"

Folktek on eBay (RSS)

"Built in the style of the Impossible Box with custom lamps, keys and switches, all cloth covered cable patch cables, labeled and brass framed panels all built into the custom oak case with internal power supply. Designed to act as a standalone acoustic electronic bio-feedback workstation capable of entire lush compositions. All sections have tip connectors specific to the sound field, and/or each section features a standard 1/4" in and out to allow them to be used to process, sample, mangle or transform any external audio. The cloth covered cables included are also stackable to allow for a range of other possibilities. All CV control jacks are 3.5mm.

The central processing section is essentially a time machine - a piece designed to heavily alter captured loops in thousands of way by use of a magnetic patchbay with patchable keys. This section has 3 voltage clock and/or LFO voltage signals which can be used to synch the other sections via CV, or sent out to control external modular synthesis. Additionally, the 1/4" "tap out" can be sent to any equipment that recieves tap signals, or as a simple method to convert to a midi clock.

There are four acoustic elements - two garden panels, a stringed section reminiscent of the mobius harmonizer and a textured blank panel which can be used to capture micro sounds. Any of these acoustic sections can be sent into any of the other panels for processing/sampling, or they can be sent into the four channel mixer.

The mixer amplifies the signals and allows for volume control of each to be sent into any of the following;

the delay section provides delays from extremely tight to about 1.5 seconds with near endless repeats - like that ofthe micro garden. It also accepts control voltage from either the time machine section or any external CV to control on/off and time.

The wave reverb section provides lush waves like that of theLuminist Garden, but also switchable to provide analog delay like that of the illuminist Garden. It also features CV in to control on/off and has decay when switched off so there are no sudden stops in the wave. The time machine CV out will activate and deactivate the reverb in time if patched to the clocks.

The Filter section has mix, resonance and frequency control and CV in to control the frequency - also patchable from the time machine for synchronization.

The result is a piece that's capable of entire fields of sound and deep, rich and layered compositions.

Aside from the Impossible Box (Arius' own studio piece), this is the finest work by Mr Blaze to date.

Includes manual of operation and the cloth covered power cable runs to standard US style plug - outside the US will need a plug converter.

sounds will be added to the folktek site asap."

STEAMPUNK Axiom 25 Controller and Stand

This one is via Criagslist Chicago

Some details from the listing:

"Custom steampunk 25 key midi controller.

Pictures don't do this justice. 80+ hours of labor, about $900 in parts. This was built for a steampunk band I was in last year.

The stand has a weighted base, main shaft rotates fully. Collapses, and is easy to transport.

The "chassis" that the keyboard attaches to was custom welded from copper pipes, and a WWII ammo case. Easily detaches from base by four large lug nuts. 1950's Triumph motorcycle headlights are also detachable from chassis, and plug in to power supply.

The power supply on the chassis contains two headlight power inverters, specific to the Triumph headlights power requirements. A 1920's brass on off switch, powers the headlights off and on. A great effect on stage, as you can literally "start up" your keyboard before playing, and shine the lights at the crowd and across stage.

The keyboard itself latches in to the chassis via a hinge and latch system from the same WWII ammo case. If you've ever opened one of these, the mechanics are the same. It pops out easily and quickly, but will stay secure throughout any stage antics.

Keyboard is/was a axiom 25. The wonderful thing about them is that if they ever break, their replacement parts are completely modular. I've had several, and they come apart like tinker toys.

Last but not least, included is a vintage 30' fire hose. Whether you need a usb controller, or a midi cable going to a racked synth, you can feed all cables through the hose. This has proven very effective on stage as far as protecting the cables, plus it screws into the back of the chassis, so nothing can ever possibly come undone.

All of the detailing on the keyboard was hand painted/welded/soldered/bolted. The gauges on the keyboard are from vintage german fighter planes, and several of the rivets and metal sides are reclaimed from Russian aircraft."

Ciate Lonbarde Rollz-5 Steampunk Drum Machine

You can find another design posted here.
Audio demos at the bottom of this post.

via etsy

"This is a Rollz-5 drum machine that I have hand built and housed in a vintage thermocouple connector box.

The drum machine has 6 drum voices that are triggered by a multitude of clocks that modulate each other to produce interesting repetitive sounds. The clocks are all generated by capacitor-resistor networks. The drum voices are all generated by ic's, mostly op-amp circuits. Have a look on the Ciat-Lonbarde website for more information on this drum machine.

I have retained as many of the original fittings as possible. So the central knob adjusts the master gain output. However, there are also 6 individual outputs to allow fine adjustments using an external mixer. There are Moog style fluted knobs to control the frequency cut-off of each of the drum voice.

All of the patch points are brass binding posts or banana sockets. This allows you to use bare wire or banana jacks to connect the circuits and drum voices together.

You can synchronise this drum machine with 5V signals from other equipment by plugging into any of the connectors.

The box is made from a hardwood with it's own original leather handle. It looks pretty stealthy for a drum machine. An etched brass plated is fixed to the inside lid to give basic instructions on how to operate the instrument.

Power is supplied via a 9V DC socket, you will have to supply your own power supply unit as countries have their own specific voltages and frequencies. I will not be supplying banana jack cables or an external mixer, sorry!

Here is a link to some sound files I produced using a Rollz-5.

Incorporated in the sale of this item is a fee to the circuit designer.

The entire instrument measures:
(l) 33cm x (w) 30cm x (h) 18cm"

New Voodoo Customs Steampunk Guitar 1/3 Theremin,Ring, Phase, LED

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"This is a custom-made, fully functional, utterly unique, guitar. It's by New Voodoo Customs and is 1 of 3 steampunk models made in the series (all 3 have the typical New Voodoo skull on the headstock, only these have a copper plate, monocle and chain on them to denote they are part of the steampunk series) . The guitar itself is neck-thru not bolt on, and is otherwise real quality guitar. There are 6 switches-all work: phase for both pickups (coil tap), kill for Optical Theremin-type (aka Dr. Blankenstein Illumiringer) ring modulator (sensor is IN POCKETWATCH -when closed and open it is protected by glass and metal watch body),wet/dry for FX, bass boost (+3db) on/off (aka "Nitro Boost"), and standard 3-way pickup selector. FX control, tone, and gain knobs all there and working as well. Red LED indicates when Theremin sensor is triggered, Green light is functional but is a light only. Guitar looks INCREDIBLE, and is truly a work of art..."

Obtruta MK1 Steampunk Synth with Crystal LEDs

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction
video at the auction and previously posted here.

"Obtruta stands for: One Button To Rule Them All.
This device is an analogue synthesizer and sound machine with simplified controls, however the complexity of the sounds it can synthesize still remain vast.
It is constructed from old and recycled parts- oak, mahogany, copper, brass, glass and bakelite.

The sound synthesis circuitry is of my own design, the modules it consist of are:
Two VCOs
Two Envelope generators (AHR and AR / Attack-Hold-Release and Attack-Release)
VCF (low pass with resonance and super-overload-resonance)
Modulator / Weird LFO
Internal signal heterodyner
Light sensor control voltage (CV) level controls

Explanation of operation:

The knife switch is the main power switch. When the button is pressed it activates both the envelopes and the modulator. One envelope controls both the VCOs and the second envelope controls the VCF, the far left switch mixes the modulator with either the VCO envelope or the VCF envelope control voltage. The modulator only cycles when the button is pressed and the frequency of VCO2 is lower than VCO1. Additionally the modulator speed is controlled by the frequency of the two VCOs so strange feedback loops happen when it is directed back to the VCOs.
The level of control voltage applied to the VCOs and VCF is controlled by the light sensors; The center light sensor is for VCO2, VCO1 via the left sensor and the VCF via the right sensor.

The center switch and right switch change the envelope shapes between HR and AHR, the two dials on the front control both attack and release time for each envelope.
The round dial with an arrow controls the filter resonance and can also be driven into super-overload-resonance when turned beyond the half way point.
The meter indicates the modulator level and frequency, the glowing crystals and glass tube show the control voltage level of both the envelopes and modulator, depending to which module it is directed.

Lights can be used as control elements for the light sensors however be aware that they can introduce mains hum through the very light beam itself if they are powered by AC mains electricity! This means that you could modulate the VCF or VCO at audio frequencies using a light source controlled by an audio signal. Modulation by using flashy lights has not yet been explored, I implore you to experiment! The sonic possibilities are vast and unknown!

The output socket can be found behind the small door in the back of the device, closed by a copper latch. The socket is a little bit stiff but I have had no problems using it, it accepts a mono quarter inch jack plug."
