The MakeNoise Museum | and farewell to vactrols...

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Today I'd like to revisit the classic #makenoisemusic modules from a different perspective. TipTop Audio has been the first company to actually clarify the vactrol ban in the EU/UK and not being able to ship a 292T to the old continent. Vactrols contain cadmium which is bad for the environment and your health. Don't worry, they're fine while they're in your modules (and you can keep them), just don't eat or smoke them and don't bury your QMMG. You may wonder what vactrols are and the old MakeNoise gear was packed with them while supplies lasted. I think MakeNoise used vintage vactrols from the previous century to match the sound of the true Buchla LPG. But supplies didn't last, and even if it did, they can't ship DPO's and Optomixes to the UK/EU forever. Maybe they already can't due to the vactrol ban. So times are changing. The old continent is in the lead, but the rest of the world will eventually follow, even in countries where it's more dangeous to breathe air and bathe in a holy river. But you have to start somewhere and vactrols seemed to be a great way to start saving the planet. As for vactrols and LPG's, i am sure and confident there will be noise after the vactrol. What do you think?"

In this synth studio tour, Lance gives us an overview of the new Vintage Synthesizer Museum space, tour of the facilities, and showcases various vintage synths including Yamaha CS-80, Roland Jupiter-8, Moog, ElectroComp, Sequential, Korg and more.

Hope you enjoy this synth studio tour, there's so many vintage synthesizers to see and play! If you're ever in Los Angeles, make it your mission to visit the Vintage Synthesizer Museum -- it's well worth it.

Patching Sound: Understanding modular synthesis

video upload by moogfoundation

"Want to get hands-on with a modular synth? This Moogseum exhibit, new in summer 2022, lets people patch in -- and explore what it's like to play and perform on a modular synthesizer.

Sound designer Reek Havok, who created the custom, interactive exhibit, talks about how Patching Sound fulfills the Bob Moog Foundation's goals of sharing the history behind modular synthesis, and the technology within the modules -- both in a way that's accessible to all ages and all of our visitors.

Exhibit funded in part by synth pioneer Dave Rossum of E-mu Systems.

Thank you North Carolina Humanities for awarding us a grant for Patching Sound!

The Future Was Then | Synth Library Music | Retro Computing

video upload by Mamotreco

"Visited a museum of technology with a wonderful computing exhibit which included computers of all shapes and sizes (from 70s mainframe to 80s 8-bit home computers and some 90s systems too).

#vintagecomputer #80ssynth #homecomputers

The background music track "Cyclades" is from my Cybersyn - Intrigues Telematiques album (available here with exclusive artwork: https://synthandsundry.bandcamp.com/a...) or as part of the Mamotreco Channel Compilation linked below.

Cyclades is a reference to a pre-TCP/IP network protocol prototyped in France in the early 70s. While the standard was never adopted for France's homegrown telematic revolution, it did incorporate packet switching and was designed to work as a network of networks. As with much advanced technology, it fell by the wayside when the French Postal Service (La Poste/P.T.T.) opted for the more established but more primitive Transpac concept based on the X.25 network standard.

ANTOINE BARIL'S ONE MAN ELP: Backstage Pass @ EMEAPP

video upload by EMEAPP

"After over two years in the making, we are proud to be a part of the One Man ELP project; the brainchild of the amazingly talented Antoine Baril of Québec, Canada. As with his previous "One Man" videos that he has released over the last 7 years (Rush, Genesis, Yes), his attention to detail and accuracy is second to none and it was amazing to watch him at work within our walls for an intense week of keyboard craziness in July 2022. Along with his amazing videographer Paul DiGiacomo, they captured some stunning footage and audio to make this epic video project one for the ages. It was a blast to play a supporting role in this, we gave full access of our Keith Emerson keyboard rig (as well as our extensive collection of vintage analog synths) to Antoine and it was like turning a kid loose in a candy store, a cornucopia of awesomeness! Join us for an exclusive backstage peek at some of the recording processes and video shoots during this one week period. The ELP material he performed and recorded runs Then EMEAPP's executive director Drew Raison will take you on an up close and personal tour of all the keyboards and synthesizers that were used in this project.

Lost Radiophonics

video upload by UncertainMusicCorps

"I was given the opportunity to sample audio from a very early example of a domestic radio receiver, built in around 1925, probably designed receive some of the earliest broadcasts by the BBC.

The recordings were made using both a contact mic on the radio headset and Soma Labs Ether 'anti-radio' (which felt kind of poetic).

I curated the recordings into usable samples, converted to SF2 format and imported into Wotja to generate the soundtrack to this short video.

Huge thanks to Lostwithel Museum for indulging me despite their bewilderment.

ELP’s HOEDOWN: LIVE @ EMEAPP FEAT. MANTICORE w/KEITH EMERSON’S MOOG MODULAR AND HAMMOND/GOFF C3

video upload by EMEAPP

"As mentioned in past videos, EMEAPP feels a deep responsibility to share our historically significant collection of rare, unusual and artist-used musical equipment with the world. As a part of this, we have opened up our doors to several tribute groups that are dedicated to recreating the music of great acts accurately and with the utmost respect to the source material. We are heavily involved in preserving the legacy of Emerson, Lake & Palmer and we do get behind those who share a similar mindset. The Long Island based group Manticore for example is one of the primary acts that is dedicated to paying tribute to the music of Emerson, Lake & Palmer and they have become a part of the EMEAPP fold. Here is the group (Rob Shepard on Keyboards, John Cristando on Drums and Ron Ponella on Bass) performing their high-energy rendition of “Hoedown” from ELP’s third studio album “Trilogy” (celebrating it’s 50th anniversary on July 6, 2022). The rig for this shoot prominently features Keith Emerson’s legendary Moog Modular Synthesizer and heavily modded Hammond/Goff C3 with dual Leslie 122 cabinets, as well as Greg Lake’s legendary stage used Persian carpet!

You can find us at www.emeapp.org where we invite you to join us as a member."
