06 26 21 Késako Player + Temps Utile + x0x

video upload by batchas

"The camera from the smartphone is not in the best position, but at least we hear the short jam I did after replacing the switches on the x0x module I made for my Buchla system and the Temps Utile I did a few years back. The Wogglebug in the bottom section of Temps Utile was not working.

Késako Player sends a beat in loop mode to the 230 and the delay section of Temps Utile. Késako x0X is synched to the beat thanx to the 230."

"This is a XOXBOX built to the highest specs by Andy Pledger, who also uses his own cases, switches and buttons for a high quality end product. This one is in the metallic blue finish with blue l.e.d's and has an upgraded OS that allows for certain sequencing tricks like reverse pattern playing etc, it was built in 2016.It is very nice to use due to the quality of components in the interface ( the pots are all metal, the buttons click nicely etc) and has a very authentic sound."

Patch Notes: INIT

video by FACTmagazine

"INIT is the collaborative project of Berlin-based producers Nadia D’Alò and Benedikt Frey. The duo’s first album, Two Pole Resonance, was released back in October 2015 on John Talabot’s Hivern Discs label, showcasing the pair’s love of moody, krautrock-influenced synth compositions, which featured vocals from D’Alò.

INIT returned to the label in late 2020 with their second LP, Gravity. The album saw the duo adopting a more playful approach to songwriting, combining house, techno, post-punk and electro to create a lighter set of tracks than their debut. This eclectic style drives INIT’s Patch Notes session, which melds D’Alò’s lyrics with experimental sound design.

The session sees the duo make use of classic gear like Roland’s TR-808 drum machine and SH-101 synth, with contemporary hardware including a x0xb0x and SOMA’s Pulsar-23 semi-modular drum machine providing eerie textures.

"Somehow, the Eventide Blackhole reverb pedal sounds even better than I was expecting it to! It sounds very full, rich and lush on synthesizers and grooveboxes! The One of a Kind EMS Synthi KB1

EMS Synthi KB1 by Digitana from portabellabz on Vimeo.

"Wish a nice background music from the Synthi KB1 will come ;)
Thanks for sharing, Steve !"

This image was spotted and sent my way via @deejayiwan. I've seen it before so I did a quick search on the site, but only found this previous post. A little digging on the web and I found the video above and a post on none other than x0xb0x creator, Adafruit's blog. According to that post:

" blogs about the 2017 recovery of a rare, one-of-a-kind EMS Synthi KB1 synthesizer, a model that never made it into production. This one was made for the band YES in 1971. Digitana Electronics obtained the synth and was looking to document some music history.

'We are pleased to announce that Digitana Electronics has acquired an important piece of E.M.S. history…the E.M.S. Synthi KB1 keyboard. Only one prototype was ever made, for the band YES in 1971.

'The synth never went into production. It has remained essentially unused for 46 years though Steve Howe (YES guitarist) did use it on a track in the first of his ‘homebrew’ demo recordings, some of which featured on the bands albums. We plan to release more photos and audio demos of this keyboard in the future so that E.M.S. fans everywhere can finally hear and find out more about this beautiful and historic instrument.'”

Against The Clock: Bloody Mary

"Against The Clock is a series where we give an artist 10 minutes in the studio and see what they come up with.

Bloody Mary has been a fixture on Berlin’s techno scene since she arrived in the city from France in 2005. In 2010 she founded her own label, Dame-Music, which has released music from artists like KiNK, Thomas P. Heckmann and Innerspace Halflife.

In the studio and on stage she makes use of classic gear such as the Roland TR-909 and TR-707 drum machines with modern equipment like the Mode Machine Xoxbox and Dave Smith Pro 2. We paid her a visit to see what kind of techno she could create in just 10 minutes.

Bloody Mary’s latest release, a collaborative EP with Cardopusher, is out now. Find the rest of the Dame-Music catalogue at Bandcamp.
