"Get ready for some sonic devastation as I demonstrate some of my favorite efx pedals and techniques that deliver filthy synth sounds capable of cutting through even the thickest wall of amplified guitars! I'll show you 10 different color palates with hands-on examples ranging from tasteful overdrive, distortion, fuzz all the way to full meltdown clipping. A little of these flavors added to your synthesizer instrument will help you create more inspiring sounds and also help you require less work to bring you final mixes together. I truly believe that every synth needs a drive circuit as much as it needs filters, reverbs and delays. "Tutorial: How to create a complete song using five Moogerfooger Effects-Plug-ins and just two external audio sources!

Inside her DAW of choice, French musician Cécile Schott (Colleen) details how to replicate a hardware gear workflow with sends and returns using nine instances of the plug-ins, treating each effect as its own instrument. From the artist:

'I have a pretty intimate knowledge of the MF-104M Analog Delay, MF105 MIDIMuRF, and MF-101 Lowpass Filter, so I was curious to hear the effects’ digital replica and try the other two I didn’t know, especially the MF-107S Freqbox, which I fell in love with madly (it is responsible for the song’s impossibly crunchy rhythm!).

I purposefully used a very minimal sound source—the Hammond of the Yamaha Reface-YC—as a blank canvas to showcase what makes the Moogerfoogers truly unique: their ability to radically transform sound and impart a sense of motion, making them closer to a synth module than an effect pedal. Having just finished a fully instrumental album, I actually really felt like singing the lyrics to a song which I had to discard, allowing me to also showcase the MF-104M as an awesome vocal processor.'

"Incredible analog delay pedal. So dark and creamy and the LFO/modulation and CV really allow it to get wild. This is the last Moogerfooger Bob Moog designed and made it to production. Built like a tank and this one is in excellent condition. It is one of the last serial numbers ever made before they ran out of the vintage chips."

"The 250e is sequencing the Studio H DPO. The melody is played on the 218e controlling the 261e which is running through a Moog MF-104M delay. Everything is then going through the UAD Lexicon 224 and the UAD Korg SDD-3000.

"In response to a request, here is a comparison of the Moog Matriarch analog delay with two other Moog analog delays: the Moogerfooger MF-104m and the Moog 500 series analog delay. The Matriarch is supposedly modeled after the Moog 500 series. So how close does it get? Let me know what you think in the comments!

"Using the Roland with the Moog delay and a bit of IOS delay for something of a panning effect. Gritty SCI FI synthesis machine par excellence. Using a bit of the simple high pass on the SH 7 the Moog delay get's even more so muddy with a lot of low frequency material."

"This is just a short sound exploration featuring the Korg Polysix running through some Moogerfoogers and Valhalla reverb. I was mainly just warming up my new setup. I kinda decided to bring out some analog hardware again cause I've been getting back into some post-punk/new wave music and I forgot how much I love analog gear, especially like super noisy stuff. The moogerfoogers used are the MF-108M, MF-104M and MF-103. I also used a mini fooger ring mod. The MS-20 isn't being used in this vid. For reverb I'm using the ValhallaDSP Room plugin set to a large cathedral preset. There's also a bit of drums coming from Ableton via some CR-78 samples."

"Moog Matriarch is a semi-modular, 4-note paraphonic synthesizer and the newest member of the Mother family of synths.

Demoed here by Mikael Jorgensen of Wilco, Matriarch's design is based on some of Bob Moog's most revered circuits. The all-analog signal path features 4 powerful VCOs, dual ladder filters, stereo delay, an arpeggiator and a performance friendly 256-note sequencer.

The 4 VCO design can be played in three distinct modes: 4-note paraphonic, 2-note paraphonic and monophonic. Each oscillator can select from a variety of waveshapes and octaves, allowing you to create incredibly rich and harmonically complex sounds. As mentioned, Matriarch features two classic Moog Ladder Filters that can be used in three distinct modes: parallel (High Pass/Low Pass), stereo (Low Pass/Low Pass), and series (HP/LP).

Where Grandmother featured an analog spring reverb, Matriarch features a dual analog delay inspired by the MF-104M Moogerfooger circuit. This delay module offers up to 700ms of stereo or ping-pong style repeats.
