Endways | Minimoog, Prophet 10, Yamaha SY77, Elektron Machinedrum IDM track

video upload by MIDERA

"Pulled the Yamaha SY77 out again and wanted to get some good use out of it, it's such a great synth. I liken it to the 'Prophet of the FM' synths. It just has such a good presence.

I also bought some lamps for my studio that I've been enjoying. Overhead lights have been annoying me for years.

Once awake | Cirklon, Minimoog, Poly Evolver, Prophet 10, Machinedrum IDM electronic music

video upload by MIDERA

"Today I managed to find about an hour to write this track. I've been trying to find a reason to keep the Poly Evolver (although I don't seem to have any local folks interested), and so I figured the best way to do that was to use it in my songs and see how it does.

The voice of nothing | Cirklon, Minimoog, Prophet 10, Poly Evolver, Machinedrum MKII Electronic IDM

video upload by MIDERA

"Today, before bed, I laid with my family on my bed, listening to the downfall of rain on the roof. I loved every second of it. My kids? It scared them for some reason. Undoubtedly, some day they will look back and think 'I can't believe I was so scared of that gentle rain on the roof... I missed the opportunity to just relax with my papa and mama.'

Of course, not a day goes by that I don't look back at the end of the day and wish I had been more present. Who knows what other adventures I'm missing out with them by being just so stuck in my head.

Well - as for this track, I was trying some new things, using the Machinedrum instead of the Nord Drum 2, and stacking the Poly Evolver and P10. I didn't really enjoy the experience of either. I know some people fill their rooms with synths and Jasper's stands, but I think it just kills the creativity. Maybe my constant unhappiness with my studio keeps me writing more and more?

I don't know.

Sequentix Cirklon 2, Minimoog, Prophet 12, SX-240, Nord Drum 2 IDM electronic track

video upload by MIDERA

"I've been trying to see what sequencers to keep. Obviously the Spectralis stays, but I kept running into roadblocks with the Cirklon so it was something I needed to write a track with. I did the same with the Squarp Pyramid, but I got stuck working through it. I'm starting to get the hang of the Cirklon though. Although it does often take a few extra button presses to do things I think should be easy, I've figured out other ways to do what I want too. I'll try again with the Pyramid, but most likely that one will be going away.

Yamaha GX1 w/ Speakers, Programmers & MIDI+

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this VEMIA listing

Click the auction link on top when you get there for additional listings.

VEMIA is Peter Forrest's auction house. He is the author of The A-Z of Analogue Synthesizer Books.

"A GX1 is an iconic instrument in any condition, but this one has had the benefit of Colin (Sequentix) Fraser's close attentions over many years. It was bought by Richard James [Aphex Twin] at VEMIA many years ago from Mickie Most's studio. It spent some years in his studio, until it was transported to Colin and eventually to his studio in Berlin, with the principal aim of getting it 100% working again and installing MIDI.

It is complete, with the main console, bench, pedals, two massive speakers, two programmers, and all cabling.

Working order: after some painstaking work at the Sequentix studio it is in full working order as envisaged by Yamaha all those years ago. The two original programmers attach to the Tone Board (patch CV controller) for the Solo keyboard. That board connects on an internal loop to the other manuals, so the programmers can be assigned to any manual for patch editing.

Under the surface there has been an incredible amount of work from Colin: he is in the process of producing a preliminary brochure for his MIDI retrofit, which makes fascinating reading and shows the depth of his exploration of the GX1's architecture - and his huge ability to problem-solve and create new possibilities as well. This brochure would of course be included with the GX1, along with all other literature available. It can also be emailed to prospective buyers on request via Peter Forrest.

At present the polyphonic manuals have full MIDI control. The Solo and Pedal manuals have external CV input Colin has been driving from Cirklon CV outputs. The Rhythm machine has external trigger inputs added, and they are being controlled by a Cirklon D-mux drum trigger module.

Extras: there are a lot of further permutations that could be arranged direct with Colin after the auction. This would depend on the new owner's wishes. For instance one person might want the GX1 as original as possible, and another might want bells and whistles - Colin has designed and prototyped a programmer for the extended sound capabilities he has envisaged, and if required, could extend the MIDI capabilities to the bass pedals.

Cosmetic condition: please see the photos. It is generally in gorgeous condition. The louvred flap on top of the keyboard seems to have some paint damage on the two inner sections, but that looks simple to remove to respray if necessary.

Transport: this is not as daunting as you might imagine. Colin has devised an excellent system for moving it, so that either transporting it by road or crating it for air or sea shipment will be well practicable and safe.

Extras: if the new owner is tempted by Colin's possible add-ons, such as his improved additional Sequentix GX1 Programmer, MIDI bass pedals, or other add-ons, these would be negotiated separately directly with him after the main auction payment."

Crashing down | Moog Minimoog, Sequentix Cirklon, Sequential Prophet 10, DSI Prophet 12, Nord Drum 2

video upload by MIDERA

"I was considering selling the Minimoog. Kept talking to friends about how I just didn't like it. I don't know why, I guess maybe it was like with the Prophet 10, where it's just a lot of money and it doesn't really seem to do anything that much better than what I already have. One of my friends said 'Well, have you tried sequencing it?' And no... I hadn't. I got the Minimoog when one of my cats died, then I rehomed my dog, and then my mom died. The whole next year (2024) I spent scanning photos in of my parent's. Only now have I started to get back into things. Well, I decided to try it out and wow, I really enjoyed it - the Minimoog sounds pretty amazing. So this is my first track with it sequenced.

I'm also working on trying to get more proficient with the Cirklon, and I've gotten a little hold on using it.

DSI Prophet 08 soundscape - Move into the vacancy of tomorrow

video upload by MIDERA

"Well - As much as I loved the Prophet 08, I have sold it. I was planning to buy the Sequentix Cirklon and sold a bunch of stuff (however, no one from Sequentix or Rubadub, who sells it to folks in the US, will reply to my messages, and I find that a really tough pill to swallow to spend $2800 and have no replies - so I'm not sure I will buy one).

Anyway, I find it fascinating that I didn't like the Prophet 10 at first, but now I love it. I loved the Prophet 08 at first, but now... I decided to sell it. Like - I think it was great and all, but I feel like the P10 has it beat, just always so majestic. So... it doesn't really seem to fit in my studio anymore.
