Dr Who Theme on Dreadbox Analog Synthesizer
video upload by VCO USA
"A journey through time, space, and analog synthesis. ๐
The original Doctor Who theme (1963) remains one of the most extraordinary pieces of electronic music ever made for television. Pioneer Delia Derbyshire constructed its otherworldly sound through tape manipulation, oscillators, filters, recorded tones, and painstaking editing, transforming the score into something that seemed to arrive from another dimension.
For this version, electronic musician Lorna Dune turned to the Dreadbox Erebus: an analog paraphonic synthesizer whose oscillators, filter, modulation, and wonderfully unruly character felt right at home in the strange sonic universe Derbyshire helped create.
๐ Synthesizer: @Dreadbox-synths Erebus
๐ผ Theme composed by Ron Grainer
๐ Original electronic realization by Delia Derbyshire, BBC Radiophonic Workshop
๐น Performed & Arranged by @lornaduuune
Produced by @VCOUSA

Passive Bandpass Filters Are GOATED | AudioThing Octaves
video upload by HAINBACH and AudioThing
"Passive bandpass filters are an obsession of mine, so it was just a question of time until AudioThing and me would make a plugin of the special subset called octave filters. Octaves is out on now: https://www.audiothing.net/effects/Oc...
My Music: http://hainbach.bandcamp.com"
"Hainbach’s Bandpass Filter
Octaves is our latest collaboration with Berlin-based composer and YouTuber Hainbach. It is a filter plugin designed to take apart the audio spectrum in spreads of octaves, allowing for unique and enchanting spectral sound design effects. Octaves gives you a retro-scientific approach to sound that echoes the timeless productions created in the BBC Radiophonic workshop or the WDR Studio fรผr Elektronische Musik by the Avantgarde masters, and modern places like Willem Twee, Strรธm, and Hainbach’s own laboratory.
Octaves is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux (VST2, VST3, AU, AAX, CLAP).

Kurzweil K2500R with all three ROMs
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this VEMIA listing
"One of Kurzweil's finest products, still relevant and producing great sounds after nearly 30 years. This one is badged RS but doesn't have the sampler in/outs. It comes from Paddy Kingsland (Radiophonic Workshop) and is in good condition.
The best thing: it includes the optional Stereo Piano, Contemporary and Orchestral ROMs, with their reference guides - as well as the massive K2500 series Performance Guide. These are very difficult to get hold of, individually - and having all three installed is a huge bonus."

Oberheim OB-X 8-voice & multimode VCF mod
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this Vemia listing
Click the auction link on top when you get there for additional listings.
"Even more of a classic than the OB-Xa, this beauty from around 1981 has been fully serviced in August 2024. It has a very unusual and useful mod where the cassette level switch is re-purposed as a noise switch and the filter can be multi-mode. ***More info: OB-X filter mod based on SEM. The mod uses the repurposed Noise buttons to choose LP/ Band/ HP Filters. Therefore patches can be saved with filter type setting. The noise modes are now accessible via the Cassette Monitor Switch. The new switch for cassette monitor is now mounted inside the synth. Considering the Memory Protect switch is already inside the synth and needs to be switched when loading patches from cassette (or these days a WAV), this new location is not an inconvenience. Most importantly the mods are all non-destructive and can be removed if desired. Also utilises the Magnetic RAM card so no battery is needed http://www.electrongate.com/dmxfiles/mram.html *** Very similar serial number (804109) to the Radiophonic Workshop OB-X, which was 804204. Unusual, really, to have the full eight voices from the factory, because the 6-voice seemed more affordable at the time and still beat the Prophet-5. The price in today's money would have been 16500GBP. Packing 30GBP to include a UK or Euro mains lead."

Introducing Ekkko Station - Pure Data Based Vintage Delay Laboratory
video upload by Element433 (a.k.a. Pere Villez)
"Ekkko Station is an echo laboratory you load into Pure Data or Plug Data
It is an attempt to bring software into hardware reality using a very simple MIDI cc driven OS and using any MIDI controller.
Ekkko Station, together with a custom built hardware stereo tube spring reverb, have been created for a new percussion album I have been working on. It was also born out of frustration and nostalgia. I’m a guitarist and percussionist and have had delay pedals/processors since I started playing in the late 1970s. My first effects were part of a somewhat rare British amp called the Redmere Soloist. I have always had a soft spot for old sounding electronic echo (who doesn’t), be it from The Radiophonic Workshop or Tangerine Dream and thought, 'with the world so inside-out at the moment, what we really need is yet another echo machine. Time machines allow us to reflect on the past and this one, ES, is special!'"

video upload by AJH Synth Official
"Some sounds/patch examples created with The RadioPhonic - a synth commissioned by Hans Zimmer, recreations of which are now available to pre-order at https://ajhsynth.com/Radiophonic.html.
The RadioPhonic features 48 AJH Synth modules, including 8 envelopes, 7 VCOs, 6 LFOs, 6 VCFs, up to 7 VCAs, random voltage generators, random gates, phaser, fixed filter bank, dedicated noise oscillator, wave-folder, wave multipliers, audio and CV mixers, ring modulators, sub-octave generator, glide/slew, octave/semitone switching, multiples... and in a beautiful hardwood, well-powered Eurorack case.
The examples include: Some all-analogue Techno at 150bpm. A 6-oscillator stereo patch and various other patching. Cross-fading and stereo panning with the Triple Cross module. Randomness from the Dual RVG, Chance Delay and Tap Tempo VC-LFO. Phaser sounds with the Next Phase, and finally a short 'Berlin School' performance inspired by Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze and Vangelis (loosely the Blade Runner CS-80 lead)

The RadioPhonic - Sounds inspired by vintage Sci-fi soundtracks (see description for more info)
video upload by AJH Synth Official
"The RadioPhonic - A short performance of some sounds inspired by the early work of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, specifically the TV series Doctor Who (a particular nod here to the story 'The Sea Devils'), and other Sci-fi/horror TV or movies from the 1960's to early 1980's.
This is the third of a few example videos featuring The RadioPhonic - a synth commissioned by Hans Zimmer, recreations of which are now available to pre-order at https://ajhsynth.com/Radiophonic.html. The RadioPhonic features 48 AJH Synth modules, including 8 envelopes, 7 VCOs, 6 LFOs, 6 VCFs, up to 7 VCAs, random voltage generators, random gates, phaser, fixed filter bank, dedicated noise oscillator, wave-folder, wave multipliers, audio and CV mixers, ring modulators, sub-octave generator, glide/slew, octave/semitone switching, multiples... and in a beautiful hardwood, well-powered Eurorack case.
Patch notes:
The ring modulator sound at the beginning uses the Ring SM's 3-way ring mod, where inputs Y and Z are both modulators. A triangle from a VCO is used, along with two sine waves created with the Gemini 2412, by setting both filters to self-oscillate. The frequency/pitch of these are then controlled by random voltages created with the Dual RVG. The Dual RVG also generates random gates simultaneously, which are used to trigger the VCA. This means all events it generates are in time with each other.

SUPERBOOTH 2024: AJH Synth - The Radio-Phonic
video upload by sonicstate
"At Superbooth 2024, Alan from AJH Synth unveiled a new, highly-specialized synth commissioned by none other than Hans Zimmer himself. This analog modular system was designed to be the centerpiece of the new *BBC Radiophonic Workshop*, a passion project of Zimmer's aimed at recreating the iconic studio at Maida Vale. With dual monophonic synth voices featuring stereo capabilities, a triple crossfader for intricate crossfading effects, and a plethora of modulation options including tap tempo LFOs and sample and hold modules, this synth is a powerhouse of vintage sound with a modern twist. The 136HP walnut case with cherry wood highlights pays homage to Zimmer's first synth, the *EMS VCS3*, while offering a more powerful and flexible sonic palette.
The limited replicas of the commissioned instrument are available for purchase, with a price tag of £15,000 including UK VAT. While not an impulse buy, this synth promises unparalleled sound and versatility for those willing to invest in its unique capabilities. With a waiting list already in place, those interested in acquiring one of these rare replicas should act fast to secure their piece of music history. For more information on this extraordinary synth, visit the *AJH Synth* website for details on availability and ordering."

video upload by Superbooth
"Acclaimed Radiophonic Workshop collaborator and Brighton-based electronic producer MATTHS (Matt Hodson) presents dark, brooding and extreme techno productions that boast brutality within the breadth of the production aesthetic using a bespoke modular synthesiser setup.
His live show then re-works the songs, as he reprograms the melodies through different filters and oscillators when taking to the stage, re-interpreting them into sometimes very different beasts.
His performances are a captivating fusion of experimental, ambient, and techno sounds, with each performance being a unique, improvised journey through uncharted sonic territories.
With his deep understanding of modular synthesis and keen sense of musicality, MATTHS has gained a reputation as a true master of his craft. His performances are known for their hypnotic rhythms, intricate melodies, and rich textures, creating an immersive experience for audiences that transcends the boundaries of traditional electronic music.

Dive into the World of EMS VCS3: Unraveling the Power of Modulation & Filters
video upload by Andy Whitmore
"Revolutionize Your Sound: Exploring EMS VCS3's Modulation & Filter Capabilities
Demo of a wide range of sounds & special FX of the VCS3 - & how to program them - explained by Andy Whitmore at Greystoke Studio.
The audio is DIRECT, 100% DRY, & IN STEREO - You are hearing the raw audio as it comes directly from the synthesizer. NO post processing (Effects, EQ, or Dynamics) whatsoever.
The VCS 3 (or VCS3; an initialism for Voltage Controlled Studio, version) is a portable analog synthesiser with a flexible semi-modular voice architecture, by Electronic Music Studios (London) Limited (EMS) in 1969.
This product was called various names by EMS. For example, the printed logo written to the front left of products are: 'V.C.S. 3' or 'The Putney (VCS 3)' on the earlier version, then 'The Synthi (VCS 3) II' on the later version (Synthi VCS 3 II).
The VCS 3's basic design was reused by EMS in many other of their own products, most notably in the EMS Synthi 100 (1971), and the Synthi A (1971) and AKS (1972) (essentially a VCS 3 housed in a plastic briefcase). The AKS also has a sequencer built into the keyboard in the lid.
VCS3 - as used by
BBC Radiophonic Workshop
Brian Eno
Chemical Brothers
Hawkwind
David Bowie
Flood
Ice-T
Jean-Michel Jarre
John Paul Jones - Led Zeppelin
