BlackBox 2 1010music - Knobcon 2026

video upload by sonicstate

"Steve from 1010music gave us a look at BlackBox 2, the successor to the original BlackBox. We first saw it at Superbooth ealrlier this year, when it had just been released.
To recap, BlackBox 2 features four tracks, with one-shot tracks supporting 16 one-shots and loop tracks following the same structure. It includes the new Shredder track, which combines slicing with elements of the granular engine, so a sample can be granulated, sliced, chopped, and played by slice.

The rear panel includes stereo input, three stereo outputs, headphone output, USB-C for power, charging, computer audio and MIDI, a controller input, and a software-configurable clock input/output. Song mode arranges sequences into scenes, then scenes into a full arrangement, with song export at the end.

You also get slice editing, grid slicing, transient scanning, and tap-to-play auditioning. BlackBox 2 costs $649 and is available now worldwide through dealers."

1010 blackbox 2 Next Gen Compact Sampler vs. Original blackbox Comparison

video upload by 1010music

"Learn about new blackbox 2 and how it compares to our original blackbox #sampler. The original blackbox has been a staple for music producers and live electronic performers worldwide and blackbox 2 expands upon that legacy.

Born for DAWless music creation and performance, blackbox 2 is the new professional standard for sample creation and manipulation. From #loops to #oneshots to #slicesbeatslicing and multisampled instruments—a hi-resolution touchscreen lets you record, sequence, play and mix in living color."

“Flying to Silesia” - 1010music blackbox & DSI Tempest

video upload by itramtal

"The main idea for this piece was captured from the very beginning using the 1010music Blackbox during a flight to Silesia. From that initial idea, the composition was improvised and developed together with the DSI Tempest by Dave Smith Instruments, preserving the spontaneity and energy of the moment it was born."

Kraftwork

video upload by itramtal

"Minimal electronic track with a motorik rhythm in the style of Kraftwerk. The Minimoog creates a deep, repetitive analog bassline, the Prophet-6 adds analog textures and melodic lines, the DSI Tempest handles the rhythmic sequencing and mechanical percussion, while the sampler 1010music Blackbox adds samples, loops, and digital layers that reinforce the hypnotic retrofuturistic atmosphere."

Rare Sound Design: Italian Alpha Syntauri Clone & Jen Musipack Restoration

video upload by Riccardo Pietroni

"In this video, we explore a fascinating piece of Italian musical heritage: a rare hardware clone of the Alpha Syntauri, likely part of the Jen Musipack project.

This specific setup features the (probably) cloned Mountain Computer cards. It’s a rare look at how this technology was adapted and distributed in Italy during the early 80s.

The Hardware Challenge:
I actually own the original Musipack keyboard, but due to its age, several keys are currently non-functional. To make this demonstration possible and play the system properly, I’ve paired the Italian hardware with an original Alpha Syntauri keyboard unit. It’s a perfect example of 80s cross-compatibility!

Same issue with the original Musipack Software which is no working correctly with the keyboard.

The Creative Process:

Sound Engine: Original Alphaplus software (Additive Synthesis).

Hardware: Music System digital oscillator cards (Jen Musipack clone of the original Mountain Computer).

Control: Original Alpha Syntauri Keyboard.

Recording & Sequencing: All sounds were captured and sequenced using the 1010music Blackbox (Bento).

The result is a unique blend of 8-bit grit and modern sequencing. The Alphaplus software allows for deep manipulation of harmonics, creating textures that range from cold, clinical digital tones to surprisingly lush, haunting pads."

Alphaplus made its first and only prior appearance on the site back in 2011 in a post fearturing Audio Damage's Phosphor.

According to Google AI: "AlphaPlus was a pioneering software package for the Apple II-based alphaSyntauri synthesizer system, enabling additive synthesis in the early 1980s. It allowed for polyphonic sound creation by stacking sine waves (harmonics), featuring 10 instruments, and providing deep manipulation of partials to produce distinct,, digital, or, lush, textures, as discussed on MATRIXSYNTH."

"At my portable, battery powered #dawless setup, working out a groove. Roland SH01A for the bass, Korg Volca FM for a lead, Meeblip Geode for another lead, Elektron Model Cycles for the drums and percussion. @1010music Blackbox is the brains of the operation, recording and playing sequences and distributing MIDI. Random crummy delay pedal on the volca FM is chosen more for its size than its sound!"
