"I picked up a 3rd wave 8M in a trade (my Jupiter 6 and Poly Evolver for their Xpander, 3rd Wave, Chase bliss Thermae, and cash) and honestly didn't think I'd like the 3rd wave very much, after having played the 24 voice desktop. Surprisingly, I am liking it more than I thought I would. Can't say I like the voice count at 8, especially if you can get the 24 voice for $2500 used... but it's not too bad. I just notice the voices dropping off on the 8M in a way I don't with other 8 voice synths like the Prophet VS. I wonder why that is, apart from maybe the 8M having a much longer release stage to the envelopes, but otherwise I have no idea.

"It is not my best work... but I wanted to put something up. Today, I traded some gear and ended up with an Xpander. It's pretty crazy what it can do. However, I'm not particularly enjoying editing from a distance, since the 'desktop' nature of the Xpander is such that it can't actually sit on any of my synths. It's literally bigger than my OB-6.

But it's got a very unique sound. Hopefully after I take some time I can really dig into the parameters of the instrument (and find a better way to edit it while playing).

"I went to pull out my Korg ESX-1... and well... it's dead. Took it to a tech who also said it's dead. I'm going to try one more thing to see if I can get it working... we'll see. For now, I've thrown my Korg EMX-1 into the foray for drums since it can do mostly the same things. However, I forgot that the drum parts can't go through the filters. That's so dumb. What was Korg thinking? Makes no sense. Oh well. That's what I've got. I'd have actually expanded this track but couldn't because the next pattern in the EMX was something I didn't want to lose, so I just stuck to this one.

"Here's a new track. I wanted to bring the Tempest back in and use it again... but almost everything about it is just difficult to use... I tried to sequence the beats, but the OS would freeze when doing it that way, so I had to opt to manually change beats. Using the external sequencer kind of ruins half the fun of the Tempest, so I chose to do it all in the box, and it's great for that... but it's extremely hard to put a track together using the Tempest.
