DSI Tempest - Clearly useless in 2026

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie - After Hours

"Subjective opinions within, those who do not understand subjective opinion may be excused lol

*100% music in this video composed/produced by me.

Trust me, your old gear still works if you use it.... don't be fooled into the new shiny thing, keep creating..... but mostly Dave Smith Tempest is still the best. Groovebox king.

UDO DMNO - It's bad

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie - After Hours

"Subjective opinions within, those who do not understand subjective opinion may be excused lol

Boring NAMM 2026 Noir here again lol
DUH, it's bad ass, OBVIOUSLY, the UDO team are kings of giving us classssssy old school sounds, amazing futuristic soundscapes all while putting it inside a gorgeuos box, imagine being able to get down on something that feels as good as it looks. See people as a musician, sound isn't everything, it's playability, it's easy of use, it's also is something inspirational. The DMNO is every single one of those things. Synths have gone stale, it honestly sucks, I'm not a synth crazy person, I'm a musician who loves cool instruments, getting excited has been real hard the last few years, hence why I've been playing shows and making albums way more. Can't be stuck inside playing the same ole thing companies think is 'groundbreaking, you should be excited' UDO is the truth, and they did it again. This is truly the new Cream Dream."

Behringer BMX - What the F...lol

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie - After Hours

"Subjective opinions within, those who do not understand subjective opinion may be excused lol

So the Behringer BMX, honestly, do you really care what I think? WELL, here's my thoughts, it's IMPOSSIBLE to freaking use something like this on the floor of a convention without help and NOBODY was trying to help me haha. That said, sound wise, oh for sure, it's solid, 100%. Dare I say "good", BUT, dang, everything is good these days. Gear is just a tool, but I think this could be useful, more useful than the Linn from the B. Would I buy the BMX, absolutely not, never hahaha. That's becasue I'm FLUSH with drum machines, and straight up, if I'm working with an artist or my own albums for drums specifically I'm ITB. Tempest is still the absolute king, if you have a TR-8s, Tempest, uhhh, Drumlogue, Alphabase, I mean geez a number of other drum machines you're good, you don't need to buy more space fillter, you can make music without this, TRUST me. BUT, it does sound good, the bass drum is no Alphabase though, no freakin way.

Behringer JN-80 - Sounds Like a $HIT - I mean, sounds like a synth lol

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie - After Hours

"Look, what am I supposed to say, it sounds fine, it plays fine, it's not a bad product.... BUT, how can I be excited about something that I don't care about. It literally sounds like a synth, not bad, not great, not inspiring, BUT who cares. It's a tool, use it if you got it. I could make an album with it as easily as a real Juno-60/106. I wouldn't buy it, but that's not because of any other reason than I don't need another synth lol. Behringer JN-80 is fine, but a Cmaj7#11 is the same no matter what the brand. Don't push brands, push creativity.

One Man's Trash: The Waldorf Microwave XT

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie

"Subjective opinions within, those who do not understand subjective opinion may be excused lol

*100% music in this video composed/produced by me.

The Waldorf Microwave XT is the past, present and future. Anyone who is telling you to buy a new instrument, especially a new synth in hopes that it's "better" than something like the XT is just here to be a salesman. 30 years old and still sits a top a trash heap of other digitals that came and went. Make music, share experiences. The End."

You can find the referenced musictrackjp demo of the XTk here.

Moog's LAST GREAT SYNTH: The Moog Matriarch

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie

"Subjective opinions within, those who do not understand subjective opinion may be excused lol

BUY THE NEW ALBUM HERE
https://noiretblancvie.bandcamp.com/a...

.....it's great! OK so, I really don't know what to say. As someone who makes music a lot, not all instruments inspire the creative process. I believe the Moog Matriarch does. I haven't bought a synth in a very long time, but this is a gorgeous piece, I'm not a hype man for gear, but sometimes you look back and see that you may have missed out on something...for me, the Matriarch was that one, and I'm grateful they had the dark version still available so I didn't have to show you the crayola colored version lol

When SYNTHS GUEST STARRED in TV & Movies

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie

"So let's have some fun, I always loved seeing when certain synths were used as props in movies and TV, let me tell you, finding some of these scenes was hard and in the middle of 30 minute long ALF episodes. So honestly I hope you enjoy! If you can name any scenes please put it in the comments section, if there are enough I'll do a part 2."

See the Synth TV and Film label below for additional posts. You can find a list of 51+ appearances in this post from 2007. Note some of the videos are unfortuanately no longer available since then, but the list is there if you want to look them up.

New Moog Spectravox - Semi-Modular Analog Spectral Processor

Moog Spectravox | Jamie Lidell | Awake & Alive video upload by Moog Music

Follow-up to the previous version.

"Experience a captivating musical performance featuring Jamie Lidell's "Awake and Alive," an original composition showcasing the Moog Spectravox. The performance features Aaron Steele on percussion and Luke Schneider on pedal steel.

The Spectravox, Moog's latest semi-modular addition, is a groundbreaking tool for shaping sound. This analog spectral processor, built around a 10-band filter bank, generates lively drones and colorful tonal sweeps, enhancing external sounds with resonant depth and psychedelic spectral movement. With a microphone connected, Spectravox transforms into a 10-band analog vocoder, featuring innovative integrated modulation across all filters. Pushing the boundaries of vocoder and filter bank technology, Spectravox offers immense flexibility as an instrument and signal processor, complete with a comprehensive patch bay for seamless integration into studios of any size."

The Newest Member of the Moog Family

Spectravox, the newest member of the Moog semi-modular family, is a groundbreaking tool for sculpting sound. An analog spectral processor based around a 10-band filter bank, Spectravox creates lively drones and colorful tonal sweeps on its own and adds resonant depth and psychedelic spectral movement to any external sound. Hook up a microphone and Spectravox becomes a 10-band analog vocoder with innovative integrated modulation of all of its filters. An exploration and expansion of the topology of the vocoder and filter bank, Spectravox is a highly flexible instrument and signal processor with a comprehensive patch bay for integration into studios of all sizes.

A Groundbreaking Tool for Scultpting Sound

Synthesists have delighted in playing with the spectrum of sound since the Moog 907 Fixed Filter Bank appeared in the 1960s, creating lush vowel tones and multicolored timbral animation with hands-on level control of each frequency band of a sound. Unlike earlier fixed filter banks, however, the unique filters of Spectravox are no longer fixed in place and will jointly shift around the frequency space, allowing for the creation of otherworldly voltage-controlled spectral animation and vibrant phaser-like sweeps. With 10 filters whose variable resonance can morph from soft precision to shimmering choral effects, Spectravox reshapes the sounds you love into surprising new forms and brings a new world of sonic possibilities to your studio.

10-Band Analog Vocoder

Spectravox is a fascinating standalone sculptable synthesizer voice thanks to its built-in carrier sound source of a thick analog Moog oscillator and white noise generator. With its combo XLR/jack program input, Spectravox becomes a fully featured 10-band vocoder with a secondary filter bank for analyzing the spectral makeup of incoming sounds. In VOCODER mode its 10 analysis filters map the timbral characteristics of any external sound onto any other sound you can imagine. Shape the warm analog oscillator of Spectravox with the dynamics of your voice, or use a drum machine to animate guitar chords in a mesmerizing broadband percussive space.

Electronic Instruments for the Musician

Spectravox uses the pioneering vocoding work of Bob Moog and Wendy Carlos in the late 1960s as its inspiration—work which was based on Homer Dudley's original designs from the 1930s and which was used to prominent effect in Stanley Kubrick's 1972 film A Clockwork Orange. Innovating further from these early designs, Spectravox uses 10 state-variable filters for its filter bank, all 10 of which are capable of being shifted with its internal triangle wave LFO or external control voltage. With the ability to emphasize vowel sounds via the Hiss and Buzz functionality of the Moog 16 Channel Vocoder, Spectravox is both a major step forward for analog filter banks and a loving exploration of early music technology history.

Scramble the Frequency Spectrum

Scramble the frequency spectrum and create wonderfully unpredictable textures with patch points for each filter in the filter bank and included patch cables. Add analog warmth and subtle phasing to digital synthesizers and sound sources. Integrate Spectravox with other Moog semi-modular instruments or Eurorack modules with an extensive patch bay providing control over almost all of its parameters. Spectravox is a boundary-pushing instrument that invites you to explore creative new ways of shaping and sculpting sound.

Great Synth Mysteries Ep. 6: There will NEVER be another Access Virus

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie

"This is a love story about a synthesizer unlike many others, in my opinion a synth the came out so long ago still eclipses many releases of today. Great Synth Mystery, mmm, maybe... but I wanted to make a compelling piece about such a wonderful instrument. As a musician and not a reviewer or journalist I think this really speaks to how ahead of it's time the Access Virus Ti was."

Reviewing ALL Arturia the Synths in ONE VIDEO as quickly as possible....well kinda lol

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie

"Subjective opinions within, those who do not understand subjective opinion may be excused lol
ALL music in this video is 100% Arturia Synths and Drum Machines performed by ME

#1: Nobody gave me money to make this video, I wanted to review a bunch of synths in one video and I worked to get my hands on as many as I could. I've extensively used every single synth in this video over many years, so I thought I could give my thoughts on them all as I've played every one (except the Origin, but can you hold that against me, honestly)

IF YOU WANTED A NO TALKING VIDEO, ONCE AGAIN GO AWAY HAHAHA jk"

ONE MINUTE SYNTH REVIEW!!! Ep. 22 IK Multimedia Uno Synth Pro Desktop (Halloween Special)

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie

"Subjective opinions within, those who do not understand Subjective Opinions may be excused lol ALL music in this video is 100% IK MULTIMEDIA UNO SYNTH PRO

TLDR, it takes me quite a while to review anything, often to grasp the value of an instrument it takes me months and sometimes a year to see where it fits, so yeah, that's my reviewing strategy, it's music, it's emotion, so if a synth doesn't give me a story to tell and a reason to review it I won't...Fortunately, the Uno Synth Pro really is a transformative instrument, while on the surface it may seem like a simple paraphonic synthesizer, it's value is underrated when you look at the competition."

Moog's Missing Modules 👀

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie

"Subjective opinions within, those who do not understand subjective opinion may be excused lol
ALL background music in this video is 100% ME. Check the tracks out in the YouTube Audio Library

I don't have an Arturia MiniFreak, so I did this instead lol. This was a fun video to make, Moog has made a lot of cool stuff, but some of their coolest synthesizers and effects are essentially in the 'been there done that' bin... I really want to see another current run of the 500 series modules and the Spectravox. Moog's modular stuff really hits, but it comes slowly, so fingers crossed for actually seeing any instrument in this video ever again lol.

Here's to me getting an Arturia MiniFreak and Moogerfooger Plugins by Halloween lol

Shoutout to the following creators:
Loopop / as I referenced his review for this video, check out his channel
Moog / for all their beatiful video clips
Sonicstate / and their extensive coverage of everything (Spectravox clip)
SoundonSound / Great coverage of the Moog 500 series modules"

Moog's Sub 37: The GREATEST MONOSYNTH.......ever?

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie

"Obviously I've had years and years of experience using the Moog Sub 37, it truly changed everything for me as far as live performance goes. I was so thankful when it was released, and now all these years later, yes, I personally think it's the best Analog synthesizer of all time. Sure I haven't used them all, but no one has...so if you disagree, duh, it's expected hahaha. That said, The Sub 37 is great for many many reasons, and even though it's been out for 8 years it will is a modern classic...IMHO. So maybe this video was simply made to say I LOVE YOU SUB 37."
