Novation Circuit Tracks Jam - Day 7

video upload by Nishina

"I wanted to make emotional melodic techno, but since I’m still inexperienced and lack the technical skills, it ended up being a completely different style of music—but it’s fun in its own way!"

That Makes Synths Presents: The Novation Ultranova

video upload by That Makes Synths

"In this episode of "That Makes Synths", Brad takes a look at Novation's Ultranova. This is a fun synth with a great vocoder and arpeggiator. In particular, Brad will show the sound sets Novation released for their 25th anniversary. Unfortunately, he did not see the sounds still on Novation's website. However, the vocoder patches are still on their website:

"Stream/Download: https://ffm.to/lostpainting

My take on the beautifully wistful "Lost Painting" from Symphony of the Night. It's been a while since I made some straight-up Synthwave, thought this theme would be a perfect fit for that dreamy nostalgic vibe.

I used a new camera to shoot this video, really pleased with how it came out!

Hope you enjoy!

Transforming Roland JX-305 with Novation Summit Audio In | Ambient Jam

video upload by Paweł Spychała

"In this video, I’m creating a deep, massive ambient soundscape using the Roland JX-305 Groovesynth, the Novation Summit, and Bitwig Studio.

Signal Chain & Setup:

The Soundscape: The Roland JX-305 is routed directly into the Audio Inputs of the Novation Summit. I'm using the Summit's onboard effects engine to completely transform the JX-305 sound, pushing the reverb to its limits and cranking the delay feedback to maximum for an infinite, evolving drone.

The Lead: The main lead synth comes straight from the Novation Summit, cutting through the ambient wash."

Novation Peak on Drums — How to Turn a Peak (or Summit) into a Drum Machine (with free soundbank)

video upload by TheGuacamoleXplosion

"This no-talking video explores 7 different methods of using the Novation Peak as a drum synthesizer, a drum machine or even a groovebox.

A soundbank for the Novation Peak (should also be mostly compatible with the Novation Summit) with all stuff from this video and some more, as well as the individual Peak patches, can be downloaded here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folder...

00:00 - Intro
01:06 - Peak Drum Jam #1: Fake Trance for Drake Fans
03:13 - Kraftwerk — Autobahn throwback
03:36 - How to turn your Peak into a drum machine? The Autobahn beats
05:10 - Peak as a Groovebox: The Streets — Blinded By The Lights
06:22 - 'What if?' break: AFX mode for the Peak now!
07:02 - Simulating AFX mode by sending MIDI PCs to the Peak
08:32 - Surrogate Multitimbrality: Marvin Gaye — Sexual Healing
09:15 - 6 Methods for Peak beatmaking — Drummer from yet another Mother
09:55 - JMJ — Oxygène IV throwback
10:38 - 'Played' drums
11:28 - Arpeggiator 'played' mode — how it works
11:59 - Pink Floyd — On The Run throwback
12:08 - Feeding 'played' mode from an external sequencer
12:18 - Testing the limits of 'played' mode: Elbow — Grace Under Pressure
13:05 - Patch from scratch: Four-to-the-floor beat with rumble
19:24 - Changing the master tempo (impact on LFOs vs. Envelopes)
20:12 - Peak Drum Jam #2 (with the patch just made from Scratch)
22:39 - Making a drum template patch (with random Peak Spa Meditation background music)
26:02 - LFOs vs. Envelopes: Creating an early 80s beat from our drum template patch
36:14 - Final Peak Drum Jam #3 (1983/84 throwback)

All Peak Patches in this video were created from scratch. All Peak tracks were recorded through RME audio interfaces (Babyface Pro and Fireface UC) directly into Cubase stereo tracks. There are absolutely no effects on the individual Peak stereo tracks, not even panning, and levels are set to unity gain, to give an as-clear-as-possible impression of the Peak’s sonic potential and limits. On most parts (except intro), there is brickwall limiting on the stereo master, and on most multitrack parts also additional compression and EQ on the stereo master. Guitar parts recorded D.I. into the Fireface UC with a 1973 Stratocaster, several track and send FX on those.

Disclaimer:
I bought the Peak at regular price in 2020. Nobody paid me to make this video or compensated me in any other way, and it’s not monetized. No generative AI was used in the making of this video.

Groovebox MIDI Reactive VJ - HTML Video Synth Test

video upload by space fever

via Space Fever:

"I would like to submit a small independent synth-related visual tool I made.

It is a MIDI-reactive VJ / HTML video synth designed for grooveboxes and hardware setups. It runs in a browser and reacts to incoming MIDI CC / clock data, making it useful for live electronic music, acid techno, groovebox jams, and hardware-only performances.

Product page: https://spacefever.booth.pm/items/8528673

The concept is to keep the setup simple: a groovebox or MIDI controller sends MIDI data, and the browser-based visual synth generates reactive glitch/noise-style visuals without needing a full VJ software environment.

It may be of interest to readers who use grooveboxes, MIDI hardware, DIY performance tools, or browser-based visual instruments."

M5Stack Acid Generator in there as well.

YouTube video description:

"自作のMIDIリアクティブVJ HTMLツール「Groovebox MIDI Reactive VJ」のテスト動画です。
https://spacefever.booth.pm/items/8528673

Novation Circuit Tracks
KORG SQ-1
Roland AIRA MC-101
Roland AIRA MC-707
Roland AIRA T-8
Ableton Move
Artiphon Orba 2

Chrome / Edgeなど、Web MIDI対応ブラウザで動作します。

This is a test video of my DIY MIDI reactive VJ HTML tool, “Groovebox MIDI Reactive VJ”.

It runs in a browser and generates low-resolution video-synth style visuals reacting to MIDI Note, CC, MIDI Clock, and Program Change from grooveboxes and MIDI devices.

No audio input is used.
The visuals are driven directly by MIDI signals.
In fullscreen mode, it outputs only the visuals with no UI.

Supported presets:
Novation Circuit Tracks
KORG SQ-1
Roland AIRA MC-101
Roland AIRA MC-707
Roland AIRA T-8
Ableton Move
Artiphon Orba 2

Works in Web MIDI compatible browsers such as Chrome / Edge."

Cherry Audio | Expressive Sound Design with Andrew Longhurst

video upload by Cherry Audio

"More expressive performance can be achieved through various technologies and techniques such as velocity, channel aftertouch (pressure), polyphonic aftertouch, and MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE). These features allow compatible synthesizer instruments and controllers to mimic the subtle dynamics of acoustic instruments.

In this video, musician, producer, and sound designer ‪@AndrewLonghurst‬ demonstrates his approach to expressive sound design, showcased through his collection of presets for Ensoniq ESQ-1 by Cherry Audio. He provides demonstrations of each technique using the new Expressive E Osmose CE MIDI controller and discusses his choices for setting up these advanced modulations in a preset.

These techniques can be widely applied to other Cherry Audio virtual instruments. Be sure to check the product feature listings and documentation to determine which instruments specifically support some or all of these methods. Additionally, consult your MIDI controller documentation, as compatibility for channel aftertouch, polyphonic aftertouch, and especially MPE can vary significantly in this evolving market.
