Rare R.A. Minimoog Featured in Music America Exhibit & Signed Moog Source Giveaway

via The Bob Moog Foundation

Left: Executive Director, Michelle Moog-Koussa, poses for a picture with Bob Santelli, Executive Director of the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music alongside Herb Deutsch's R.A. Moog Minimoog at the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin, Texas.

"The Bob Moog Foundation's Executive Director, Michelle Moog-Koussa, and Board of Advisors member Francis Preve recently attended the opening of the Music America: Iconic Objects from America's Music History exhibit at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas to celebrate the inclusion of a rare R.A. Moog Minimoog from the Bob Moog Foundation Archives.

The R.A. Moog Minimoog, which belonged to electronic music pioneer Herb Deutsch, is serial number 1094 and is one of only 210 R.A. Moog Minimoogs to have been manufactured. The synthesizer was given to Herb by Bob Moog in 1971.

The rare Minimoog synthesizer was chosen to represent Bob Moog's indelible legacy as someone who created instruments that revolutionized the face of music by bringing a brand new palette of sounds to the performing musician, as well as honor Herb Deutsch for the significant role he played in the development of synthesizers and electronic music.

Other objects in the exhibit include: Thomas Edison's wax cylinders, Jimi Hendrix's guitar, Janis Joplin's pants and letters, Dizzy Gillespie's trumpet, Arlo Gurthrie's hand-written song lyrics, and much more.

The exhibit will be at the LBJ Presidential Library from now until August 11, 2024. It will then travel to four other presidential libraries over a two-year period."

Syntronik Synth-X synth virtual instrument- The king of vintage Italian synthesizers

video upload by ikmultimedia

"Get up to 64 libraries free https://www.ikmultimedia.com/sampleta... for a limited time!

Syntronik Synth-X is the latest new synth for Syntronik 2 which like all Syntronik instruments works equally as a library inside SampleTank 4. Based on the Elka Synthex, the Italian monster polysynth manufactured in the early '80s, its wonderful variety of pads, sweeps, leads and basses make it a go-to favorite for the world's most famous synth artists, often fetching well over $10,000 when rare units are up for sale."

Jordan Rudess plays the KW-8000 & Sorcerer Modern Virtual Synthesizers from Syntronik 2

video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the KW-8000. The KW8000 delivers the late ‘80s sound of the digital-analog hybrid Korg DW-8000. The DW-8000 used digital oscillators with short samples of 16 different waveforms, then into an analog low-pass filter. The result is a remarkably warm sounding instrument whose timbres often sound more analog than digital."

Jordan Rudess plays the Sorcerer modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Sorcerer. The Sorcerer offers the distinctive timbres of the legendary Moog source, two fat analog oscillators through the legendary Moog 24 dB per octave transistor ladder filter. In many ways, the Source was a programmable Minimoog capable of generating massive basses and superior leads."

Jordan Rudess plays the Megawave, Obie One, CATO, and Triptych from Syntronik 2

Jordan Rudess plays the Megawave modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2
video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Megawave. The Megawatt features the powerful wavetable synth sounds of the original Waldorf Microwave, a classic digital/analog hybrid. The Microwave was the heir to the PPG Wave legacy with its sweepable digital wavetables and Curtis chip analog filter. The unit we recorded is the most coveted Rev A version."

And a few more:

Jordan Rudess plays the Obie One modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Obie One. The Obie One is our recreation of the innovative Oberheim OB-1, excellent at creating classic and fat sounding bass, pad and lead sounds. The new 4-pole slope in our O-Type state variable filter model in Syntronik 2 now captures the distinct difference between the 2- and 4-pole filter sounds of this excellent hardware synth."

Jordan Rudess plays the CATO modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the CATO. The CATO captures the distinctive analog sounds of the Octave Cat SRM and its SSM filter. The pure-analog tonality of this synth is huge, and its modulation capabilities allow for truly unique and stylized timbres. Able to create gigantic Moog-style basses, the CAT can also go in its own sonic direction with its clever oscillator sync implementation."

Jordan Rudess plays the Triptych modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Triptych. The Triptych is based on the warm sounds of the classic Korg Trident with its separate synth, string and brass sections. The Trident was basically a 2-oscillator Korg Polysix combined with a convincing string machine with dedicated ensemble chorus and a paraphonic brass synth. It is a beast of a synth capable of a wide range of classic analog synth and stringer sounds."

Jordan Rudess plays the PRO-VS modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the PRO-VS. The Pro-VS recreates the sound of vector synthesis from the Sequential Circuits Prophet VS with its 4 digital oscillators through an analog filter. A cousin of wavetable synthesis, vector synthesis allows the mixing of 4 oscillators with X-Y controls for extreme animation and liveliness.

Syntronik 2 sets the new standard in modern virtual synthesizers. IK’s advanced sampling techniques, combined with a hybrid sample and modeling synthesis engine, power a comprehensive collection of rare and sought-after synths with stunning sonic accuracy and the deepest editing.

This is a massive update to the previous release, adding 11 new synths, exciting new, advanced, and much-requested functionality, and a huge number of all-new presets for the 22 original synths taking advantage of all these new features."

Jordan Rudess plays the Syner-V modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

video upload by

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Syner-V. The Syner-V is based on the Digital Keyboards Synergy ii+ with its wide range of unique soundscapes and glassy, metallic tones. Although it did not officially use the term 'FM' due to Yamaha’s trademark, the Synergy did employ the same basic technology of the GS and DX series as well as the Synclavier FM synthesis."

Jordan Rudess plays the OSC-V modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the OSC-V. The OSC-V is based on the Classic analog-filtered digital monosynth sounds of the Oxford Synthesiser Company OSCar, a British classic. Sometimes called the 'British Minimoog,' the OSCar can sound deceptively analog and ultra-fat despite its digital oscillators."

Jordan Rudess plays the M-12 modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the M-12. The M-12 brings the incredible sounds of the monstrous Oberheim Matrix-12 capturing its many filter modes and modulation matrix. The Matrix-12 was a technological marvel for its time, and its innovative modulation matrix gave it ultra-flexible modular synth-like routings combined with patch programmability. We expanded the modes and slopes of our C-Type modeled filter especially for this synth in Syntronik 2."

New IK Multimedia Syntronik Deluxe Hardware Synth Link Update

New IK Multimedia Syntronik Deluxe Hardware Synth?

Would you be interested in a hardware version of IK Multimedia's Syntronik Deluxe?

via IK Multimedia:

FEEDBACK WANTED: Syntronik lovers;

Would you like to see I.K. Multimedia turn their "Syntronik Deluxe" ( -softsynth suite ) into a hardware instrument? How about a compact "grab & go" workstation keyboard ( -based upon a DSP chip full of Syntronik "analog era" synths, keyboards + Modo Bass sounds + vintage acoustic/ electric guitars topped-off with ( 12 ) drum-kits representing the "Analog Era's" defining music genre's,( i.e: rock, metal, prog, space rock, punk, new wave, etc. )? Personally, I love the idea!

What do YOU think? All keyboardists are invited to "weigh-in" on the idea. You'll find my mention of these proposed instruments following the interview I did with with Erik Norlander ( -who helped design both the Uno and Syntronik ). *NOTE: Neither Erik nor I.K. has given any indication that they intend to develop such instruments. It's just an idea I thought of after completing the interview. And I still think it's a pretty awesome concept!

But what do YOU think? Would you buy a Syntronik hardware synth? How about a compact Syntronik "grab & go" sized workstation keyboard? If enough keyboardists out there express an interest in these hardware instruments maybe I.K.will consider developing them. Hopefully, the Uno is only I.K's FIRST foray into hardware synthesis realm!

You'll find where you can e-mail your "feedback" on this idea beneath the Erik Norlander interview at this page.

Update: link fixed. There was a comma in the link instead of a period.
