Ethero 2 first demo
YouTube Uploaded by glidepro1984 on Jan 24, 2012
"A demo of the second version of Ethero.
The app is very much in development at the moment, however it's already pretty usable!
Ethero experiments with using a light source to control sound. Whereas the first version used light to modify the pitch of a wobbly sine wave (damn it was fun!), the new version will transmit that pitch as a MIDI message to any equipment that's lucky enough to be listening!
The video shows my old (but reliable) iPhone 3GS face down on the table with its camera facing up - this is the device that runs the app. The iPad is running Moog Animoog and the iPod Touch 4G is running Tempo Rubato's NLog Midi Synth. Ethero 2 is controlling both apps via MIDI over Wifi.
As my hand gets closer to covering up the 3GS camera lens, the pitch of the notes is lowered, and vice versa. The pitches are constrained to a major scale, however I'm planning to add a few more in due course!
The interface of the app is pretty minimal at the moment (nothing to show really) - however as the app is supposed to be used with the screen face down, the UI seems secondary to getting the camera stuff 'just so'
Even though I'm the developer, I can't wait to see where this goes!"
