Livid CNTRL:R + Eurorack Modular

Published on May 31, 2013 lividTV·135 videos

"Joseph Pailo and Peter Nyboer in an analog + digital frenzy. Livid CNTRL:R controls Ableton Live and digital effects and syncs analog sequencers. Joseph goes mad on the analog knobs and patching.
The music is a result of jam session where the CNTRL:R is sequencing a bass line with the SynthStepper M4L plug-in. Those notes go out to a USB-MIDI converter and provide notes and clock to Joseph's drum sequencer and oscillator. The CNTRL:R is also used to control a DrumSteppr for additional drum sounds and effects. Finally, the audio from the modular system is sent back into Live, for digital effects, controlled by Peter on the CNTRL:R. Latencies were not compensated, but appreciated for their disorienting repercussions.
This is cut in a pseudo-psycho-documentary style, mixing footage of Peter and Joseph playing, video and audio of Pailo explaining patches and motivations, and still photos from the session."

Sadly Imperfect

"Now the Cosmic Nights event is over I have more time serve you, my dear viewers. The title refers to the somewhat sad music and the imperfect meter (3-3-2) used.

The music starts with an 16-step sequence on row 1 of the Doepfer MAQ16/3 driving the Synthesizers.com Modular. After that the bass from the self-built Modular comes in driven by an 8-step sequence on row 3 of the MAQ16/3. The solo is played with a percussive organ-like sound on the Roland XP-80. Then an 8-step sequence from the Synthesizers.com Q960 driving the fabulous and very versatile Rob Hordijk OSC HRM module is introduce (never mind that I forgot to set the switches to normal :-) After that some mellow pad is introduced on the Waldorf Q Keyboard and the solo on the Minimoog Voyager comes in. The 16-step sequence is then altered to row two of the MAQ16/3 to give some variation. An odd note is played on the Clavia Nord Lead 1.

Anne used my iPhone 4 to film this video. The audio is recorded live from the stereo main mix on the Mackie Onyx 1620 firewire card using Reaper DAW.

You can download/see/hear the video and music from my website soon."
