> by > on a Massively Modded Two Headed Gameboy Rig

"This EP was recorded directly from the output of a heavily customized Game Boy running LSDJ. Additional compression and EQ were used to suppress noise. Visit clubrecs.com for more information.

"Here’s a rundown of some of the more interesting modifications to my two-headed Game Boy rig:

- Custom enclosure.
- Merged two Game Boy Colors into enclosure (allowing for 8 synth channels).
- Hardwired sync between the two Game Boys.
- Integrated analog parametric EQ.
- Integrated analog amplifier.
- Bypassed the original headphone amplifiers to reduce unwanted noise/hum.
- Added Summing/Signal Inverting to reduce unwanted noise/hum.
- “Under-Clocked" the bottom Game Boy's crystal-oscillator with a slower crystal (this slows down the processor and drops the frequency/pitch of the audio output, allowing for deeper low end).
- Added screen lights that were taken out of old Game Boy Advances.
- In addition to the hardware modifications I also created over 375 custom drum samples and a set of 375 N.E.S Pulse-wave samples (15 different chords (Major, Minor, 5ths, etc) played in all 12 root notes (C, C#, D, D# etc)!

Combining these mods into one unified system let me explore different ways of working with the Game Boy and I hope that process can be heard in the music on this EP!"

"A very raw 12-minutes edit cutdown of nonsense jamming with this little monster synth

Sequencing is 100% modular, using Make Noise Pressure Points and some other stuff like clock dividers, logic modules and the like.

Fx (delay/reverb) is the EHX Cathedral.

Recorded in 1 take, no edit or post-processing other than cut/paste of the best bits"

MacBeth Nexus, before manufacture, final act!

Published on Nov 14, 2013 macbethsynthesizers·94 videos

"Working today, and infact the last week or so on the Nexus touch keyboard analogue synth I'm doing- I left it to run by it'self today, in the background, ambient!

I posted this message on facebook!

'Hi All, well for those following my up and coming next *new* synth- the Nexus- I have spent just over a week working with some slight changes here and there, as well as a couple of circuits too. Basically, all that I have designed so far is top. I have been working most of the last couple of days, now applying what I've designed into the layout of the PCBs and front panel. Over today, I've just let this thing run it's self in the background. I must say, it's been playing some of the most depressing sounds that I've heard in a long time. Melancholics will delight! This thing is coming straight out of the cold war!'
I can't be straight- well not all the time!"

Mutable Instruments CVPal Now Available

Be sure to see the CVPal tests video here.

"Do-it-yourself USB MIDI interface

We dreamt of a really simple DIY kit – so simple that it would allow beginners to enter the world of DIY with a big smile – and yet, interesting enough to be useful in any kind of Eurorack setup. That’s how the CVpal was born! The kit contains only 25 parts to solder; but is an incredibly useful tool allowing you to connect your computer or iPad/iPhone (with camera connection kit) to your modular system or (neo-)vintage analog equipment.

The CVpal features a large palette of control modes – monophonic with velocity and extra square oscillator, monophonic with clock outputs, duophonic, dual monophonic, or even quad trigger conversion! Its 12-bit DAC with an 8-point software calibration curve makes it more accurate than more expensive products.

A simple stand-alone case is also available for the CVpal – making it useful outside of the modular – with a stompbox or a desktop analog synth for example..."
