Ambient Meditation for Guitar and Synthesizer - Fender Jaguar and Korg EX-800
Published on Jan 24, 2017 Stephen Hummel
"Volume 7 of the 'Circuits and Strings' series from subtractiveLAD aka: Stephen Hummel.
This jam pairs my Jaguar with my EX-800, all played live with no looping. The guitar part heavily features the 'reverse' delay setting on the Strymon TimeLine (custom patch). The EX-800 is being played via MIDI on my trusty old Kurzweil K2000.
Signal flows:
Fender Jaguar
Keeley 4 Knob Compressor
Ibanez Turbo Tube Screamer TS9DX
MXR Custom Badass '78 Distortion
TC Electronic Shaker Mini Vibrato
MXR Phase 90 Phaser
Strymon TimeLine Delay
Walrus Audio Descent Reverb
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Amp
Shure SM57 Mic
Korg EX-800 (with Moog Slayer filter mod)
Boss RE-20 Space Echo
Line 6 Verbzilla
Recorded and mixed in Reaper"

Synthrotek AVR Programming Interface Now Available
For DIYer's out there, Synthrotek's AVR programming interface is now available.
"The Synthrotek AVR Programming Interface was designed with the DIY-er in mind. With both a 10 pin and 6 pin ISP header on board, you can either program your AVR chips in the ZIF sockets onboard, or use a 6 pin ISP cable to program them in circuit! With an on-board crystal, you don’t need to worry about the order in which you set fuses or burn your hex file. It comes default with a 20mHz crystal, but can accept any frequency crystal that has the same foot print. (we recommend socketing it so you can change it for different projects!)
The AVR Programming Interface is capable of programming the following microcontrollers:
ATiny25, ATtiny45, ATiny85*
ATiny24, ATiney44, ATiny84
ATmega48, ATmega88, ATmega168, ATmega328
ATmega16, ATmega32 (“cockroach” style microcontrollers)
The AVR Programming Interface can be used with any ISP AVR programmer that uses either the standard 10 pin or 6 pin connection, including:
USBasp
Pocket AVR Programmer
Pololu
WaveShare ATmel AVR Programmer
A SET AVR Programmer
* When using the ZIF socket for the ATiny 25/45/85, insert the microcontroller with the half-moon notch facing up, and with the chip taking up the TOPMOST section of the socket."

Plant Music #1 (Knas + MIDI Sprout)
Published on Jan 24, 2017 Smokey Quartz
"In this video I try out the MIDI Sprout for the first time, connecting a Flamingo Flower (Anthurium andraeanum) to the Knas Ekdahl Polygamist synthesizer. The MIDI Sprout is a “Biodata Sonification Device” that allows plants to play synthesizers! Everyone and everything should be allowed to play synthesizers! Listen to how the sounds change as I touch the plant leaves and flowers."

Side note: The bass is a Roland SH09, running from a Turing Machine clocked by the Beatstep Pro.
"A sequence of drum grooves, played by three DIY selonoids, driven by the Bastl Selonoid Eurorack module, programmed on the Arturia Beatstep Pro and Bastl Little Nerd.
Design and Programming: Izhar Ashdot, Assembly: Dudu Levi, Recording: Gal Cohen.

"1978 Crumar DS 2 synthesizer - Number 47 of under 700 made in Italy. Rare. Seems to work fine but I am not familiar with this instrument. Missing one slider knob. As is.
The DS-2 is basically a monosynth with an added 44-voice polyphonic strings section. The DS-2 was one of the first synthesizers to use DCOs (digitally controlled osc.) making it stable in tune but maybe not as fat as VCO synthesizers. That isn't to say it can't sound fat...it can. Especially if you use the polyphonic string section and apply some slow LFO modulation to the pitch. This is a very big and good looking synth with a lot of knobs for instant hands-on control. And you don't need a hardcase, it's built into one. Just lift the cover and there it is (smart!)."
