Roland SH5 Oscillator & Filter Tweaking

Published on Apr 16, 2017 Meta Function

"In this video, Meta Function demonstrate oscillator & filter modulation on a Roland SH5.

The SH5 is arguably the greatest mono synth Roland ever manufactured. The SH5 features two filters that run in parallel: a state variable 24dB diode ladder filter that can be modulated via a variety of sources and a static parametric 6db bandpass filter.

The bandpass filter is possibly the most chewy, knarly filter available on any synth and weirdly is not available on any other Roland synth (including the System 100). This puppy screams.

In this video oscillator one and two feature PWM via a triangle LFO. The state variable 24dB diode ladder filter is set to lowpass and is modulated via a S&H LFO. Due to the parallel filter topology, interesting timbres can be heard whilst the SVF is modulated by an LFO and the bandpass is tweaked by hand.

Sequenced via a Sequentix Cirklon.

Audio recorded via Calrec S2 console and SSL convertors. All dry, no FX, EQ or compression. The only post production performed was normalization.

Watch at 1080p with good quality audio monitoring for the best experience.

Meta Function developed the Max For Live synthesizer, the Wave Junction in partnership with Sonicstate.com. A four voice paraphonic synth with 2 multi-mode osc, three multi-mode filters, 5 LFOs, 5 Envs and a 12 slot modulation matrix.

You can buy it from Sonicstate right here for £19.95:

Note: Ableton Live 9.6.1 and Max4Live 7.2.2 required."

Rephazer - Easter Egg (Roland Boutique JX-03 and JU-06 Try-Out)

Published on Apr 16, 2017 Rephazer

"Happy Easter All, in this little jam I am trying out the Roland Boutique JX-03 and JU-06 so there are lots of these old and typical Rolandish eighties sounds in this one..

Octatrack is used as clock, arpeggiator for the boutiques, beat and for playing the low regions of the keyboard (A4 bass and piano)

Boutiques are playing arpeggiators received from the Octatrack.

V-machine is used for Lo-fi effects and piano played with the UMA25-s Midi controller.

System-1 running System-100 plug-out for a lead

OP-1 used for a lo-fi atmospheric pad.

Analog Four Bass is played live together with the piano on the same midi channel."

Make Noise Morphagene - First Test (in two parts)

Published on Apr 15, 2017 Genshi Media Group

"This is a first quick test of the wonderfully deep, Make Noise Morphagene. I haven't even had a chance to look at the manual yet, as I was just too excited to try this thing out. So here is what you'll find in this video:

Part One: I have the 4MS Spectral Multiband Resonator as the source for the Morphagene, which in turn is going into the Mutable Instruments Clouds. Everything is modulated with the Make Noise Richter Wogglebug and the Xaoc Devices Batumi Quad LFO.

Part Two: The source for the Morphagene is a 'Film Score' I created specifically for the Morphagene using various VST instruments in Ableton Live. Again Morhpagene is going into Clouds.

Sequences can be chained into songs, and each step in a song can be programmed for sequence number, transpose amount and number of repeats
Sequencer syncs to Midi Clock
Keyboard outputs velocity and pressure
Each module (both SEMs, Mini-Sequencer, Keyboard Control) has mini-jack patch points (56 patchpoints)
Pitch and Modulation wheels
Pan pots
Headphone output
