Got my hands (but just for a short time) on the 3 new synths from the Arturia V Collection 7 package - CZ V, Synthi V and Mellotron V.

I`ve recorded 10 - 10 tracks from each synth to simply create a track that can show a piece of sound what these can produce. Except one sidechain compressor and a limiter on the whole material no external fx, compression or EQ were used."

Dave Smith is an American engineer and musician whose innovations in synthesis have made him a key figure in the history of electronic music. He founded the synthesizer company Sequential, which was responsible for the first–ever commercial polyphonic and microprocessor-controlled synthesizer, the funky-sounding Prophet-5. He also played a central role in developing MIDI technology — he’s known as the father of MIDI. Starting out in the mid¬’70s as a fan of rock & roll, Smith got tuned on to electronics by Wendy Carlos’s Switched-On Bach, and became inspired to explore synthesis more deeply. His inventions can be heard across American popular music, from radical pop and rock acts like Bowie and Talking Heads to film-score composers and directors like John Carpenter and JJ Abrams. In this Fireside Chat, Smith tells stories of growing up in 1960s California, how the mood of the times fueled his imagination and the genesis of the machines that music fans worldwide have come to know and love."

Epicycloid Turbo Entubulator & Voluptron Vacuum Tube Eurorack Modules

"Epicycloid Engineering has two vacuum tube based modules and a dedicated power supply module for them. The Turbo Entubulator is a module that breaks out all of the functions of a 6AR8 tube to be voltage controlled and used with your other eurorack modules. This module can be used as a VCA, ring modulator, distortion/saturation effect, waveshaper and probably many other uses when patched in different ways.

The Voluptron is a four pole lowpass ladder filter, but with tubes instead of transistors.

Both of these modules receive 200V power from the Illuminox Prime module to make sure the tubes are running at full power.

EPICYCLOID ENGINEERING TURBO ENTUBULATOR

The Turbo Entubulator is Epicycloid Engineering's flagship module: a tube breakout module that can produce effects ranging from simple VCA-like behavior all the way to gnarly tube distortion, wavefolding, and more. By providing direct, patchable access to the tube's pins, one can create a number of novel behaviors that all exploit the brilliant and peculiar nonlinearities of the included 6AR8 tube.

The Turbo Entubulator provides static and CV control of Deflector Bias and Offset as well as Grid Control and Screen voltages, allowing a number of patchable tube effects. EPICYCLOID ENGINEERING VOLUPTRON

Voluptron is Epicycloid Engineering's take on the traditional modular ladder filter: a complex, tube-based design with a thick, unparalleled sound. Voluptron offers up to five octaves of 1V/oct tracking, with resonance up to self-oscillation. Additionally, the input can be used as a gnarly overdrive—one which impacts the cutoff frequency at higher settings, creating dynamic filtering effects. If you love the sound of a Moog ladder filter but wish it would extend farther into the dredges of tube-based distortion and nonlinearity, Voluptron is the right choice for you.

Note: the Voluptron requires connection to the Epicycloid Engineering Illuminox Prime power supply.

"This synth plays and sounds great. Everything works except the AC adapter plug connection needs replaced (IF YOU WANT TO USE AC). The middle post connection broke off on the port. However this is a very easy fix. Also, the Synth works totally fine without it on batteries. You need to have batteries in the CZ series anyway to save the patches, so there's little reason to worry about the AC adapter. See me playing this EXACT SYNTH in the video."

A simpler kind of powerful digital synthesis

Released in 1984, the CZ-101 was Casio’s answer to the wildly popular Yamaha DX7. It was significantly less expensive and infinitely easier to program than its rival. Instead of frequency modulation, Casio’s phase distortion (PD) used various user-selected waveforms to modulate the timing of simple carrier waves at the cycle level in order to create more complex wave shapes. This simplified form of digital synthesis made it comparatively easy to perfect a wide variety of timbres spanning warm pads, natural percussion, buzzy digitalia, sci-fi effects and even analog synths. While PD could sound similar to FM, it also had a unique sonic signature all its own.

The CZ sound helped propel artists like Salt-N-Pepa, Was (Not Was), and Vince Clarke into the spotlight. Let’s add your name to the list.

"The Palette case provides just enough room for Atlantis, Scales, and Planar 2, which is fantastic because they pair so well together.

Here Planar is controlling PITCH on the X axis, and filter cutoff on the Y axis. The GATE output is triggering the GATE input on Atlantis, but also the Sample & Hold, which is feeding the SHIFT input to control the MOD oscillator on Atlantis. This lets us play two notes on Atlantis within the same scale. Digiverb gives everything a nice sheen of reverb at the end."
