_Introducing MiniFreak firmware 2.0 and MiniFreak V 2.0
MiniFreak update delivers a significant dose of new features and sonic possibilities for existing hardware and software users, with an expanded sonic palette, new FX and more.
Here’s what’s included:
New engine: Wavetable
Including 32 wavetables and 64 new patches to extend the raw potential of your sound, this update brings one of the most powerful engines to MiniFreak (available for Oscillator 1 only).
New FX: Super Unison
Transform a simple patch into a Supersaw monster with Super Unison FX. This chorus-type effect can stack up to 6 copies of a sound on top of a dry signal, for unmistakable width.
Enhanced Custom LFO Users can now decide if the LFO rate corresponds to a single step, or the entire Shaper curve, empowering you to create more nuanced, evolving, and expressive modulations.
A favorites panel for hardware user
Save up to 64 of your favorite presets and access them with ease. Enter the favorites panel by pressing shift + save, store a patch by pressing save + selecting a sequencer slot and recall a saved patch with a step button press.
New sound store for MiniFreak V
Software users can make the most of a brand new Sound Store with two paid banks with 64 patches and three free banks with 32 patches at launch.
And more
Minifreak update also comes with additional enhancements to Macro Edit mode for greater real-time control over modulation amounts. As well as Osc Freerun OFF, which now apply to Bass, Harm and SawX. Clock Send and Transport Send for hardware users, which can now be toggled on and off. Finally, you can now control the instrument volume with MIDI CC7"

SCHLAPPI ENGINEERING Introduces Nibbler Four Bit Digital Accumulator Module
Overviewvideo upload by SCHLAPPI ENGINEERING
"The Nibbler is a module about exploring the musicality of counting in binary."

"**This is technically a preorder but modules should ship by the end of the year, we should also have pictures of the silver version by Dec 18th**
The Nibbler is a four bit digital accumulator based on CMOS logic. This means that it counts in binary from zero to fifteen, with inputs and outputs for individual bits as well as stepped voltage outputs (digital to analog converters). It does this with individual logic chips instead of a CPU.
The concept here is that counting in binary (and its expression in bits) is inherently musical, and with slow clock speeds we can use it to create both rhythms and modulation voltages (or melodies). At audio rate we can generate subharmonics and modem-like sounds (or noise).
Features
5 rhythmically related gate outputs (or audio rate square waves)
2 stepped voltage outputs
Second stepped voltage has selectable phase offset
Cherry MX Brown switch for reset
4 gate inputs for modulation
Chainable using carry in and out
Reset input can be used as hard sync at audio rate
Subtract input can add variation to sequences
Synchronous and asynchronous output modes
Shift register functionality
CMOS logic deisgn

Korg Volca FM2 Vs. Sonicware Liven XFM Sound Comparison
video upload by Dylan Ferno
"These are 2 portable and budget, 6 voice, FM synthesizers. While the Sonicware Liven XFM is more capable as a beat making machine, I thought I'd put the Korg Volca FM2 up to the sound test to see where it can compete. No external effects were added.
Since synths can make millions of different sounds, it is hard to directly compare them. So to do the best I could, I compared some of my favorite presets/custom patches in the following categories:
0:00 Pads
0:45 Ambience
1:45 Bass
3:15 Lead
4:20 Keys
5:55 Brass
6:47 Strings
7:57 Mallets
9:00 Whistles
9:58 Drums
In my opinion, the XFM is warmer sounding and better for traditional electronic sounds with its own unique twist. While the Volca FM2 is better for beutifully replicating the sounds of acoustic instruments."

"Trying out something on the Serge system: using the direct pulse inputs to the Programmer taken from the pulse outputs from the 1050 cloned Mix Sequencer, then changing the direction of the 1050 with the Serge Clock Divider every 5 times through the sequence, thus giving an evolving sequence of notes over more than the normal 8 steps an ordinary sequencer gives. I'm getting into some interesting generative (Cybersynthesis) techniques today"
