"A big picture overview of the main features of the Sonicware Liven Evoke (table of contents below), as well some tips for quickly getting started with making some interesting sounds and playing music on it, without getting bogged down in the technical details of all the synth's bells and whistles, which will be covered in the next videos in the series. The other videos will be shorter than this one. For example, the second one is only 25 minutes. They are focused on specific topics of limited scope, whereas this one is a broad overview. The idea is to start making more bite-size videos than the long-form ones I've tended to make in the past. And the reason for this is to same as the reason for starting the Patreon: to make this channel more sustainable for me and to be able to get back to making videos on a more regular basis.

"A minimalistic dub-techno piece built from the Roland TR-808, ‪@SequentialLLC‬ Prophet-10, ‪@KORG_INC‬ MS-20, and a noise box, where reverb- and delay-soaked harmonies float over a steady rhythm.

TR-808: Individual outs are used.

Kick: Sent through a BASS DRIVER DI and EQ’d for weight.

Clap: Runs into a MICROCOSM for delay.

Hi-hats & toms: Taken from the main outs and drenched in reverb via a ‪@strymon‬ blueSky.

Prophet-10: Plays simple chords and melodies. The signal first receives delay from a ‪@BOSSinfoglobal‬ DD-6, then deep reverb from a blueSky; additional filtering and reverb are applied later in the DAW.

MS-20: Handles the bass line, recorded through the BASS DRIVER for extra grit.

Noise box: Its output is boosted and modulated by ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬ GENERATION LOSS MK II, then sent through the ‪@HologramElectronics‬ MICROCOSM for expansive reverb."

"This is fairly CMI Eproms I programmed inside of a sequential circus Drum track. I programmed them to hit harder. This is the best set I ever designed. I made more drums too. I made most of the CMI drums. When I designed the Fairlight CMI for originally for Bon Jovi’s guitar player John Shanks. He wanted the exact tears for Fears sound. Doing my research. All I kept on seeing was Fairlight CMi. I downloaded all the original sounds for the fairlight. I used a Oberheim prommer to design the binary files, I made them hit really hard. These have to be the best drums I ever designed.

EXPLORING THE ELGAM CAROUSEL

"The mythical Elgam Carousel from 1976 - is it a toy or a songwriting tool?
It's at least safe to say it's an analog drum machine and arpeggiator, with 3 chord sounds and a bass line generator that swings real good - here recorded completely dry without effects.

The Groove box that sparked todays hype of the genre - a stunningly well-designed piece of gear with a great analog vibe that stays relevant. Originally, this was the Crazy Hands section from the Elgam Broadway organ.

The Carousel is comprised of 4 sections :
1. Drum Machine
2. Bass Section - generating a choice of two bass-lines
3. Chord section - three sounds (Harpsichord, Honki tonk and Piano)
4. Arpeggio section - one sound with adjustable decay and 2 stackable harmonies.

The melodic sections change depending on the rhythm engaged and follow the tonality of the keyboard. Sonically the sounds gel really nicely, this machine is the sum of all its parts, the rhythms and bass lines are well-programmed, the bass has great lines and the arpeggiator adds that magic.
The drum section offers 15 fixed rhythms of great analog drum sounds. No individual drum sound mute options, but hey - at least you can add maracas.

You have the option to select the tonality with one finger for simple root chords and selecting minor, 7th or diminished with the foot pedal. Or you can choose to operate it in manual mode and potentially play more complicated chords.

In manual mode the bass and arpeggiator only makes sense of chords of three notes while the chord section reads all the notes at the same time. On the back we usually have a single audio output and a pedal switch connector for stop/start and minor and 7th but this one had some other mods added that were disconnected.

This unit was just serviced and will go up for sale next week so holler if you're interested - it's in good condition"

A bank of 45 patches with a wide array of sounds and timbres, both monophonic and polyphonic.

Sound Bank '79 is a series of vintage tones for different synths and plug-ins, so look out for future releases. Recorded completely dry with no external effects or processing.
