GLX BALSAM #2 | Winterdagen

video upload by Winterdagen

"Here's another on on the amazing GLX BALSAM! This dark and moody patch and the note glides somehow remind me of Mica Levi's score for Under the Skin which is a very very good thing :-)

I love that BALSAM has a dedicated bipolar slider to route the mod envelope to the LFO time. In this case it makes the LFO - which is modulating the filter - start very fast and slow down over time. I'm using the 2-pole lowpass filter here, I absolutely love its character. It leaves in a little more high frequencies than a 4-pole filter, making the patch sound nice and buzzy. I've quite heavily detuned the oscillators from each other and I'm again using BALSAM's special power viscosity to make each oscillator glide to the next note at its own rate when using the pitch sliders. This makes the sound feel so alive!

I did use some external fx in this piece, Strymon El Capistan and Nightsky. BALSAM sounds gorgeous completely dry as well, but I love a little space in a piece like this one.

Creating Custom Chords on Plinky 12 (Chords)

video upload by Nathan Plante Synths

"This is a follow up to my full walkthrough video of the Plinky 12 Chords panel by mmalex and Making Sound Machines. In this video I walk you through the process of creating custom chords and custom harmonic progressions. You don't need to know anything about music theory to come up with interesting chords!"

RESONATORS | Rings | PolyMoog | Tiptop Audio | Haible by R*S

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"In this video, I'll try to explore the concept of resonators in electronic music. I am not sure I am correct here, but I guess the first official Resonator was from Serge, followed by the Resonators in the fist PolyMoog. Buchla may have closed the line with the 292 Spectral Processor, which is also a resonant array of filters. Resonant filters is what all these modules have in common. Jurgen Haible revisited the Moog resonator in the 21st century, and Emilie Gillet perfected it with the Rings module. TipTop Audio also made a faithful recreation of the Polymoog resonator quite recently.

My interest in resonators was ignited when I saw a 17 year old low-res video from Kenneth Elhardt running a Jupiter-8 through an isolated Moog resonator unit, turning clearly synthethic sounds in to very convincing voices, brass and woodwinds. I've used a few snippets (transformative / educational) and added a link to the original. Mr. Elhardt also has a few videos on his channel where he recreated 'medieval' music on a Synthesizer.com Moog clone which is an amazing listen and a hidden gem on the tube.

What I did not know, is that this video may have also inspired Haible and Tiptop Audio to recreate the resonator.

But wait. Rings? Yep. When not plucked and using the IN, you'll pass a sound through 48 digitally controlled 'virtual' filters. So don't pluck it. Resonate it."

AMBIENT SUNDAY [43]: TE OP-XY and Slate & Ash Halo by themselves

video upload by keinseier

"Still taking a break, but still doing stuff, of course.Trying out the new HALO by Slate & Ash with some semi-generative tracks with the OP-XY., I found the never-exactly-repeating background pretty nice and just let it run for some time.
Also: On the road, so the video format is different. Which is nice, for a change."

"Oscar is unique take on an oscillator, providing the very best of both semiconductor and thermionic worlds, namely - good pitch tracking and distinctive vacuum tube / transformer sound. Nothing you have heard before.

The oscillator in its sawtooth core is equipped with Thyratron tube (TG1B). Sync threshold can be controlled with the MOD AMT dial.

Second tube (6F12P) is utilized in a novel waveshaper for Soft Pulse (Triangle-like) and Hard Pulse (square-wave like) waveforms - with the transformer feedback. Waveform shape and harmonic content is frequency dependent. This topology gives the user choice of 6 waveforms, in which 4 of them can be voltage-controlled.

Features
◯ Vacuum tube oscillator module utilizing 6F12P(6Ф12П) and TG1B(ТГ1B) tubes in high voltage operation

◯ Fine and coarse pitch tuning

◯ Voltage-controlled pulse shape

◯ Two V/oct inputs plus one FM Input

◯ Hard sync (variable threshold)

◯ Two waveform outputs

◯ Transformer-based pulse shaper

◯ Pitch tracking: +-8 cents accuracy across 6 octaves

◯ Pitch range: 16Hz - 14kHz"
