Sun Ra - Video of the Original Minimoog Model B Prototype

video upload by townesvancant

via Gorgio of www.gleetchplug.com

"the only known filmed performance of a Minimoog Model B is in Sun Ra's Space is the Place mind-blowing feature film..."

Update:Also see this post, this post, and this post.

via imdb.com : "Sun Ra - space-age prophet, Pharaonic jester, shaman-philosopher and avant-jazz keyboardist/bandleader--lands his spaceship in Oakland, having been presumed lost in space for a few years. With Black Power on the rise, Ra disembarks and proclaims himself "the alter-destiny." He holds a myth-vs reality rap session with vblack inner-city youth at a rec center, threatening "to chain you up and take you with me, like they did you in Africa" if they resist his plea to go to outer space. He duels at cards with The Overseer, a satanic overlord, with the fate of the black race at stake. Ra wins the right to a world concert, which features great performance footage of the Arkestra. Agents sent by the Overseer attempt to assassinate Ra, but he vanishes, rescues his people, and departs in his spaceship from the exploding planet Earth."

Moog Taurus 3 Bass Pedals nominated for TEC Award

"Bullish On Bass: Moog Taurus 3 Bass Pedals Receive Mix Foundation TEC Award Nomination

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (November, 2010) – Since their introduction, Moog Taurus 3 Bass Pedals have made a huge impact in the music world. Often described as “a work of art that can knock down a small building”, recognition of their high quality audio, design and construction earned them a nomination for the 2010 Technical Excellence & Creativity Award in the category of Outstanding Technical Achievement, Musical Instrument Technology/Hardware.

Taurus 3 Bass Pedals are currently heard beefing up the bass of top artists like The Black Keys, The Dave Matthews Band and John Paul Jones. In addition to providing modern amenities like USB and a MIDI-synced arpegiator, they faithfully recreate the classic Taurus I sounds favored by bands like Rush, The Police, Genesis, Asia and Weezer.

“There had been a clamor building from our customers to bring back the iconic Taurus I”, said Cyril Lance, Moog Music Chief Engineer. “Our goal was to both capture the magic and power of the original Taurus I and to expand it’s capabilities to fit seamlessly into today’s performance and production environments -- I’m thrilled with the outcome.”

The 26th Annual TEC Awards, presented by the TEC Foundation for Excellence in Audio, will be held on January 14, 2011 at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California. Nominations were made by a panel of approximately 100 audio industry veterans, in a variety of fields and winners will be determined by members of professional audio and sound production organizations. The winners will be announced at a ceremony to be held Friday evening, January 14, at the Anaheim Hilton as a special highlight of NAMM, the leading international music products trade show.

In The Ninth Season (demo).mov

YouTube via davidryle | October 22, 2010

"This is a demonstration of the new Synthetic Sound Labs 1310 Digital Delay module. The device is capable of subtle doubling, hard timed delays and super flanging. I mostly am using it as a gentle flanger in this demo but it is far more powerful than what I demo here. You can get one for your 5U MU modular synthesizer by checking out the website at http://www.steamsynth.com/

I also finished a project where I was modifying a stock Q111 Pan/Fade module from Synthesizers.com. I added an attenuator pot to the control input and added an inverter circuit to the output #2. This enables the Panning portion of the module to output audio to two channels of my mixer in stereo. I have control over how wide the panning is and both output channels are normal (un-inverted) so there is no cancellation when sending to effects etc..

I am using several other delay units as well in this demo. TC Electronics D-Two is way in the background so it isn't really a factor. Strymon 's Blue Sky Reverberator is the heavy plate reverb in the background. The Korg Kaoss 3 pad is used to have some looping fun, but I tried to keep it low level so not to interfere with the demo of the 1310 delay module.

There are four separate voices playing in this piece from the modular. The sequencers are generating various time signatures and loops but all of the distorted flanging effect is the 1310 Digital Delay. This is one fun unit and a great addition to my modular synth.

The title is about the amount of time since I got serious about building a modular synth to work with. It has been a little over two years (9 seasons) since I made the commitment. No looking back and I am very happy with the move away from dedicated keyboards and soft synths (although I still use them for other things).

Thanks to Doug Slocum at Synthetic Sound Labs for the great delay module. He has other ideas in the works and I am very excited about the future of his endeavor."

The Vintage Keys Plus also features MIDI in/out/through connections, which are located on the rear panel, along with Left and Right outputs for the main, sub 1 and sub2 outputs. The unit can be run mono by using the main right output. All ouptuts on the rear are standard 1/4" Mono jack sockets. The front panel features a recessed on/off power switch, a jogwheel for scrolling through patches, cursor left and right buttons, a home/enter button, a master button and an edit button, 1/4" stereo jack headphone socket and a master volume knob."

"Stress of the day" - on EMU Proformance/1+

YouTube via organfairy | November 09, 2010

"I must confess that I am not playing this in real-time. It is more or less the result of some hours spend playing around with a PC MIDI sequencer where I play the notes one at a time.

But I can surely take credit for composing this melody!

I bought this EMU piano synthesizer for the equivalent of 10$ at an outdoor second hand market. The electronics were fine but the power socket was loose and the previous owner had kept the cord in place by wrapping everything in duck tape (or duct tape (or whatever tape it was)). So I had some sticky business to take care of.

I use the EMU synthesizer for the piano sounds and the Roland JX-8P for the bass. The arpeggio is played on the Siel DK-80 and the drums on the Roland RA-30 arranger module. The Yamaha HE-8 organ takes care of the rest."
