Logos presents: The PsybOrg
Published on Oct 27, 2013
www.logosmusic.net
"The PsybOrg is a steampunk 'pipe organ' and interdimensional traveling machine, which incorporates analog synthesizers, digital controllers, Theremin, and sound reactive light displays in an elegant walnut housing that blends future and past.
It was designed by Logos and crafted by a team of builders, programmers, mad scientists, and solder monkeys. Luthier John Mulholland built the wooden housing with help from Phil Hubert, and multimedia artist Joel Horne designed the PsybOrg's visual components."

Univeristy of North Carolina-Greensboro Bestows Vintage Modulars to BMF
"Aries Modular on display at Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit. (Photo by Chris Stack)"
via The Bob Moog Foundation
"We are delighted to announce a permanent loan from UNC-Greensboro that includes a variety of synthesizers and other vintage instruments and equipment, including four legendary modulars: a custom built Moog Modular from R.A. Moog, Co., two ARP 2600s, and an Aries 300.
Due to the historical significance of this gift, we asked music technology journalist Geary Yelton to write a guest blog for us exploring some of the very early history behind the instruments.
Read more here about these fascinating synthesizers, and the man who bought or created them for the university in the early days of modular synthesis."

Mountain Oasis 2013 Pics by Chris Stack
Full gallery on Facebook here. That's Dan Green of 4ms above. I saw him at the MMTA SYNTHFEST on Saturday in Seattle. He mentioned his new Modular Row Modules (latching, stackable eurorack cases) that meet carry-on baggage demensions and testing them out on his flight that night. I didn't realize he was flying out to the TRASH_AUDIO event at Mountain Oasis on Sunday! That's dedication right there. I wish I could have joined him!
Below: Moog Voyager XL & Moogerfooters, followed by a DIY modular system featuring a Synthetic Sound Labs Ian Fritz Double Deka Ultrasonic VCO Model 1130.

Koushion MIDI Step Sequencer - NEW FEATURES
Published on Jun 2, 2013
"Koushion was just updated, adding a host of new features that make it an even more powerful music composition and production tool. It now has eight independent layers, each with its own MIDI Channel, Scale, Octave, Clock Divider and more. Each layer can have a different number of scenes (up to eight), making long, evolving patterns possible.
It works great with external hardware synths and softsynths, as well as other iPad music apps."

MIDI iPad app, Koushion, adds multiple layer support. GREENVILLE, SC - June 2, 2013
The Kudzu team recently added new features to its app, Koushion. One of the features allows for multiple layer support. Chris Stack made a video that showcases this new feature as well as the dark theme feature for low-light conditions.
Version 3.1
Features:
• 16 steps per scene (up to 128 steps in chain mode)
• 8 scenes with independent MIDI channel per scene
• 8 scene layers with independent key, quantization, and playback mode
• 4 playback modes: single, simultaneous, chain, rebound
• Key switching between any major, minor, pentatonic, or chromatic scale
• Adjustable clock divisions (1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 and 1/32)
• Quantized scene switching
• MIDI clock send/receive
• Tap Tempo (great for syncing with a live band)
• Velocity control
• Optional monophonic drawing mode (only allows one note per step; great for programming leads) • Wireless connectivity via CoreMIDI Network Sessions
• Automatic integration with other apps via CoreMIDI virtual ports. Open up a synth in the

background and Koushion will trigger the notes!
• Multiple layer support (exponential flexibility increase!)
• Dark theme to reduce eye strain when working in low-light environments Pricing: $7.99

A Fascinating Look Back at Fate with Bob Moog
Chris Stack of EXPERIMENTALSYNTH.COM has a fascinating post up reflecting on some of his experiences related to Bob Moog. I don't want to give any of it away so just click through and read from start to finish. After you do (spoiler alert!) check out this post and this post. Note these posts are not part of the story, nor fateful in the set of events, but they are related and interesting for those that might not have known.

A 1964 Letter from Jon Hassell on Bob Moog
via Chris Stack of EXPERIMENTALSYNTH.COM
"Jon Hassell just shared with me a very interesting and historic letter. Very timely too, with tomorrow being Bob Moog’s Birthday celebration…

Letter to Jon Hassell
Electronic Music - The Early Years
I had a very interesting experience about one week ago. A gentleman, Mr. Robert Moog, who claims to know of you, visited Washington and demonstrated a compact electronic studio. He claims to be the only man in the country building and designing equipment solely for the creation of electronic music. He was tremendously impressed with your proposals. [For - among other things - applying the principles of electronic music manipulation to the video domain.] He stated that he would be able to provide much of the equipment called for in those proposals at the same quality or better at considerably less cost.
He also demonstrated equipment (in a crude state of development) which could provide great flexibility with extremely simple manipulation involved, almost to the point of being able to improvise an electronic composition - to be recorded or not. He is going to send me descriptive material and quotations, copies of which I will either forward to you or hold for your interest and considerations.

Head, Music Department
American University
Washington D. C. 20016"

For some perspective on the date see the Moog Legacy Timeline. This would have been right after AES when Bob Moog showed his system for the first time.
