VFE Pedals Klein Bottle multipath + multiband looper/mixer on Kickstarter

Published on Nov 21, 2017 Knobs

via Kickstarter where you'll find additional details.

"The Klein Bottle was designed for the noise makers, soundscape artists, endless tinkerers and tone wizards. This epic pedal starts by splitting the input signal into three FX loops. Each FX loop has dedicated controls for pre-gain, HPF/LPF (bandwidth filters), and main mix level. This allows you to send different parts of the signal to different effects, and blend them all back together to create new tones out of your existing pedals.

But wait, there's more! The magic happens when you use the independent feedback controls to send the signal from one FX loop into another...and then back again! Keep your existing tone intact with the DRY knob, while layering a cornucopia of sonic goodness on top."

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #31: E-MU Morpheus - Song 2

Christian's Sonic Spaces
Published on Aug 2, 2017

"Another E-MU Morpheus song ;-) It's a Z-Plane Synthesizer which has an unique filter morphing technology that can create organic spacy sounds. So it's good for ambient too ;-)

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
Morpheus - Elektron Analog Heat - EarthQuaker Devices Afterneath - TC Electronic Mimiq - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - DigiTech Polara. The used fx varied depending on the recorded track.

The signal goes via a small Behringer mixer straight into the pc.

To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with just a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track.

Well, I decided to go back to the basics, but at the same time make something useful for the synth community and do a kind of competition (I like competitions;-). What's my best synth for ambient music :-)"

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #48: Kawai K4r - Song 1

Published on Feb 28, 2018 Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is the first song with the Kawai K4r. It's a 16-voices, 8-part multitimbral 16-Bit PCM digital synthesizer. This time the song is quite minimal, like a repeating chant. So, just lay back and relax when you listen the song ;-)

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
Kawai K4r - EarthQuaker Devices Afterneath - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated

The signal goes via a small Behringer mixer straight into the pc.

To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with just a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."

Two DB-01s and a pod-load of CV

video upload by Richard DeHove

"The Erica Synths DB-01 sends and receives CV and includes a handy attenuator, so a little experimentation with CV can really extend the sound design possibilities. Here both DB-01s and a pod of Euro clocks and modulators (two Erica Synths Drum Modulators) are synced together. One DB-01 is the master feeding pitch CV into a mult and then into the second DB-01. Both units are getting filter CV inputs from the Drum Modulators. The main machine is sometimes going through a Microtubes B3K for extra overdrive goodness, and the second DB-01 get washy with an Earthquaker Devices Afterneath V3 - which also accepts CV. Hopefully this little demo gives you some ideas. A little CV goes a long way.

The Wave Transformer // EarthQuaker's Boldest Device Yet ( & it isn't even a pedal)

video upload by Jorb

"I love a lot about this module.

Its a rock solid oscillator, which yes there are a ton of them, but this needs to be if its gonna compete. And the waveshaping from the transform circuit gives it enough of its own character to stand out.

I think its priced competitively, it does all the things other up-market "standard" oscillators do (built-in attenuators for modulation, hard and soft sync, built in sub) and it has so much of its own character.

If there's any downside, its kind of a lot of HP? But not really when you consider the sum of its parts. On all fronts, we got a banger.

Complex Morphing VCO, Subs, FM & more // The Wave Transformer by Earthquaker Devices (Eurorack Demo)
video upload by DivKid

"Well this was a surprise! Earthquaker Devices (makers of fine pedal FX) making a Eurorack oscillator. Yes they made the Afterneath module, but as that was a modular version of a pedal I didn't expect they come guns glazing with a big, bold VCO!

I first saw The Wave Transformer by Earthquaker Devices at Knobcon, where they brought it along for an early look and sat playing with it at the show I knew they were onto something that sounded great. Well now it's released here we are with a demo.

The Wave Transformer is a 20HP Eurorack oscillator, it's analog, with onboard complex, transforming wave shaping, sub generators with unique shapes, FM, sync, LOTS of precise tuning control and options to wave shape external sources, saturate audio and track subs from your other oscillators. I've had lots of fun with this one!"

"The Wave Transformer
Eurorack Transfiguration Oscillator
$199.00

The Wave Transformer is an analog, vintage-voiced, voltage-controlled oscillator with over 8 octaves of accurate pitch tracking. It has 7 simultaneous wave outputs, including a unique Complex output.

The Transform control morphs from a basic waveform through many strange iterations into a complex, gnarled mass of audio mutations at the Complex output. You can yield countless variations on these permutations by combining this novel circuit with Hard Sync, Soft Sync, Linear FM and Exponential FM. Additionally, you can mute the source waveform to use the circuit as a harmonic gate/VCA, rendering The Wave Transformer a voice unto itself. If that is not enough, there is a Shape Insert that allows you to transform external oscillations and modular-level audio sources."

"Test jam with 2 Moog Mother 32s and a Moog Moogerfooger MF-108M, Moog MF Drive, and Earthquaker Afterneath pedal. Lots of CV flying around between the two Mothers and the MF-108M, and lots of pure, lush analog distortion. Recorded in Ableton Live, with no other FX added."

Free L.A. Synth Expo Returns to Echo Park with Increased Modular presence

RSVP Here "After the 2018 launch, which brought over 1,000 musicians to a warehouse in Echo Park, the free Los Angeles Synth & Pedal Expo will return on September 28-29, 2019 in the same space on West Temple Street, in collaboration with local stores Analogue Haven, Noisebug and Truetone Music.

The involvement of Modular specialists Analog Haven and Noisebug (selling most products at a discount for the occasion) boosted the presence of Eurorack builders: this year there will be an entire room dedicated to the format.

A larger space will host the large format synth companies (see floorplan), where many established builders will have the opportunity to showcase their latest products.

There's a lot of curiosity, in particular, for the new ASM Hydrasynth and the EarthQuaker Devices Eurorack version of their Afterneath Reverb. Their presence at the show will represent some sort of West Coast debut. Tangible Instrument will also showcase the soon to be in production prototype of the company's new synth.

As usual, the show will feature a rich presence of pedal manufacturers. The stompbox format in recent years has developed in creative ways that have attracted the attention of the more creative synth players, with devices by companies like EarthQuaker Devices, Red Panda, Meris and Chase Bliss Audio (among others), whose effects will be represented at the LA show.

Like all the other Synth & Pedal Expos, there's no charge at the door. Here's the list of confirmed manufacturers
