The Super 8 is a 16-voice polyphonic, bi-timbral analog-hybrid performance synthesizer. Employing superior hands-on controls, an expressive 61-note weighted keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch and all the powerful, flexible and addictive sound of the UDO Audio family.

Overview

Introducing the next evolution in the Super series. At the core of the Super 8 is two independent binaural analog-hybrid synthesizer signal chains using UDO’s proprietary and proven synthesizer technology. With up to 16 voices of polyphony and two unique timbres each with their own independent effect chain, this instrument is analog reimagined. Like its larger sibling the Super Gemini, voices and timbral layers can be split, dualled, sequenced all at the touch of a single control.

Powered by complex FPGA digital oscillators, the Super 8 is decorated with expansive tonal features such as wave morphing, cross & ring modulation, bi-directional sync and an all-analog signal path to the output, inspired by the analog poysynth heavyweights of lore. Equipped with a 61-note semi-weighted keybed with polyphonic aftertouch, left hand performance controls and 256 performance and patch slots, 32 interchangeable waveforms and 16 sequences, the Super 8 balances power, playability and performance.

Sitting in between the Super 6 and the Super Gemini in size and power, the Super 8 puts the player first using high quality tactile control elements with our user-centric intuitive design philosophy that inspires exploration and sonic play. Adopting a similar true-stereo Binaural signal path with dual FPGAs and twin effects processors like the Gemini, and yet retaining the portability and road-friendly personality of the Super 6. The Super 8 will be a long time friend and partner in your adventures in sound.

Super. Evolved.

As the next evolution in the Super family, the 16-voice Super 8 sits confidently between the Super 6 and the Super Gemini. This synth is the distillation of the UDO philosophy of the power of play — with the dual cores and playability features of it’s bigger cousin, all in a more compact and simplified presentation — it’s the best of both worlds.

Duality in Sound

The Super 8 allows you to effortlessly transition between two independent synth layers, inspiring textural, deep and rich soundscapes at a touch. With UDO’s championed powerful, flexible and immediate sound, this synthesizer is designed to take you on a sonic journey.

Latest Moog Spectravox Demos

video uploads by Moog Music

Moog Music

You can find the first two videos in the series here, and additional Spectravox posts here.

Playlist:

1. Spectravox | Sculptable Synthesizer Voice
"In this video we explore how to use Spectravox as a standalone synthesizer voice.

We begin by configuring Spectravox for keyboard control – patching the Keyboard CV output of Grandmother to the 1V/OCT input on Spectravox and the Keyboard Gate output of Grandmother to the Trigger input on Spectravox. Playing Spectravox this way gives us a unique analog synthesizer voice where the ten filters and Spectral Shift controls allow us to sculpt the sound of Spectravox’s Voltage Controlled Oscillator. We look at using these controls alongside the LFO for both traditional lowpass and hipass filtering as well as unique notch filtering, comb filtering, and phasing effects. Lastly, we look at using the LFO and the VCA input to create tremolo effects."
Spectravox | Filter Pings and Analog Physical Modeling
In this video we explore how to ping the filters of Spectravox to turn it into an analog physical modeling instrument and create percussive wooden sounds like marimbas or xylophones. By replacing the carrier input to Spectravox’s filter bank with a gate or envelope instead of audio and turning the resonance of the filter up, we can ping all ten filters and mix their levels for creating struck percussion sounds. In this video we first turn the VCA mode ON and then patch the Gate output of Grandmother to the Trigger input of Spectravox to use Grandmother to trigger Spectravox’s envelope generator. Patching the EG output to the Program input gives us level control of the envelope, and finally patching the Program output to the Carrier input inserts our decay-only envelope directly into the audio input of the filter bank. Later, we connect the Keyboard CV output of Grandmother to the Shift CV input on Spectravox to move all ten filters for melodic control of the filter bank.
2. Spectravox | Recreating Moogerfooger Effects for Guitar
In this video we explore how to use Spectravox to process guitar and look at recreating some of the Moogerfooger effects pedals with it.

We begin by using the Program section and its preamplifier to bring a guitar signal up to Eurorack levels for processing, and then connect the Program section output to the filter bank’s Carrier input. Here is how to recreate or simulate some of the Moogerfoogers:

MF-103 Phaser – use the filter bank as a comb filter and modulate it with the LFO for resonant phaser tones.
MF-101 Lowpass Filter – use only filter 1 (lowpass filter) and the Program Envelope Follower to get enveloped filtering. Switch to one of the bandpass filters for auto-wah effects.
MF-102 Ring Modulator – modulate the VCA CV with the LFO for tremolo effects and push the LFO to audio-rate for ring modulator-esque amplitude modulation. Explore amplitude modulation of each filter band respectively via their CV inputs
MF-105 MuRF – send an external sequence (from DFAM, Grandmother, or any sequencer) to the Shift input for sequenced resonant filter bank movement. Modulate each filter band individually with independent envelopes for even more MuRF-like behavior.

Spectravox is an open-ended signal processor, so use these as starting points and explore the myriad of unclassifiable effects Spectravox is capable of.
3. Spectravox | Emulating a Vintage Drum Machine
Embark on an exploration of Spectravox's capabilities as we delve into the intricate art of crafting vintage drum machine sounds with a contemporary flair. πŸŽ›️πŸ’₯ Join us in a meticulous fusion of Spectravox and rhythmic sequencers, aimed at resurrecting the beloved beats reminiscent of the 1970s and the nostalgic rhythms of vintage organs.

Unveil the methodology behind sculpting the quintessential drum machine foundation through the mastery of Spectravox's Carrier section. Our comprehensive tutorial will meticulously guide you through the synchronization of rhythmic sequences sourced from esteemed trigger sequencers such as ALM’s Pamela’s New Workout. Witness the transformation of Spectravox's ten bands into a symphony of dynamic kick drums, crisply resonant snares, and timeless wood block accents. Additionally, unlock the intricate craftsmanship involved in crafting hi-hats by toggling the Bands 9 & 10 switch to Hiss mode.

However, our journey merely scratches the surface of Spectravox's boundless potential. Delve into the realm of nuanced control with Spectravox's intuitive panel controls, where each knob adjustment opens doors to a myriad of sonic possibilities. For those craving to push the boundaries of sonic innovation, we offer insights into seamlessly integrating external control voltages, thus offering a gateway to unparalleled rhythmic experiences.

SoundMaster ST-305, Roland Jupiter 4 & Echolette SE251

video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

"Quick impro to demo the Sound Master Stix Programma ST-305 (!) analog drum machine syncing the Roland Jupiter 4 arpeggiator. The Echolette SE251 provides echo/reverb.
The ST-305 is an 80s programmable analog drum machine. Very basic, no sound editing but you get 7 sounds, an accent track, dedicated volume faders and outputs for every instrument.
And the icing on the cake is it can be synced to external gear and/or sync other gear, which is a nice feature (you can use it slaved to a sequencer and in the same time slaving a synth, so it acts as a 'through').
I did not know this one till recently and it was a pleasant surprise."

Klemt Echolette SE-251 tape delay.

via this listing

Pics of the inside below.

"This is quite a rare tape echo manufactured by Dynacord. It seems to be one of the very last tape echo introduced by the brand (with the Echolette Echo 400).
It shares many parts with the Echocord line of delays like motor, pinch roller, heads, oscillator board etc
But this one used op amps instead of only transistors for amp stages (the Echocord Super 76 also already used one op amp for the output stage).

The unit has 2 heads which you can mix with the dedicated pot. Otherwise classic features like input volume, tone, echo send level, echo feedback and echo level.
In the back the original DIN socket enabled output and aux input. In this case you only get the wet signal out of the delay, which is nice in a studio environment.

Unit was fully serviced and modded:
- all electrolityc caps were replaced (except 3 bipolar ones )
- original 4x op amps were upgraded to better one (TL081)
- original DIN socket was replaced by 2 jack sockets, one for the output and one for the aux input. Also a pot was added to attenuate the level for the aux input
- unit was meticulously cleaned
- heads were cleaned, demagnetized and aligned
- unit was calibrated
- tape is new

The unit is in perfect working order and in excellent cosmetic condition."

BAGΓ€I
Multipurpose Thingamabob

bagΓ i / baˈgaːi / s.m. [modenese dialect, from a late Latin bagagium ‘baggage’, formed after the late Latin baga, deriving presumably from the Anglo-Saxon bag (see ancient French bague, ProvenΓ§al bΓ gua, ‘bundle’), whose root may be traced down to the Indo-European *pac, ‘to tie,’ from which also ‘package,’ ‘pact’] – ‘thing,’ ‘thingamabob.’ A term used when the actual name of a thing or a person does not come to mind.

A module that is at the same time a clock burst, S&H, audio bitcrush, or fluctuating random voltage generator is indeed a bit elusive to describe in a single word. Even if one tries, some aspects will always be missing.

Why bother, then? Let us just call it “that thingamabob,” or better, “that bagΓ i.”

The 411 is a quadruple linear VCA, mixer, and multiple for audio and CV.

It consists of four linear VCAs with semi-normalled inputs and CV inputs, −6 dB attenuation switches, a mixed output, and an unpatched output.

The 411’s architecture allows to use it in many ways, for example:
processing four signals independently;
modulating one signal with four CVS and sending it to four different destinations;
mixing up to four signals and modulating them with the same CV;
mixing two audio signals and modulating them with a modulated CV…

Introducing: SetonixSynth Shaka-8 and Shaka-4 VC Stereo Matrix Mixer for Eurorack

video upload by SetonixSynth

"We are proud to announce the new Shaka-8 and Shaka-4! This demo contains a feature rundown and brief performance demo of these powerful modules.

The Shaka-8 is a Voltage-Controlled Stereo Matrix Mixer with an all-analog signal path. While it is similar in function to other Stereo Matrix Mixers, the Shaka-8 uses high quality audio VCAs to enable voltage control over each matrix patch point, i.e. the send level of each L/R pair of inputs to each L/R pair of outputs.

In addition to the 4 input and 2 output channels on the Shaka-8, the Matrix may be expanded to a 4x3, 4x4 or more matrix mixer by chaining Shaka-4 Stereo Matrix Expanders to the main unit via a 12-pin connector on the back of the Shaka-8. The Shaka-4 cannot be used without a main Shaka-4 unit.

The Shaka-8 and Shaka-4 operate in much the same way as a typical stereo audio matrix mixer, with the send level of each input to each output controlled by the corresponding knob, and the resulting “mix” being a sum of the knob settings in each column, added to the CV input corresponding to each knob.

For Eurorack users hungry for interesting new ways to route stereo or mono filters, oscillators, and effects, the Shaka-8 and Shaka-4 are sure to provide an affordable, flexible, and highly useful patching ecosystem to explore.

Available summer 2024 from SetonixSynth!"

Basimilus Iteritas Alia jam with tons of CV modulation and muting

video upload by Noise Engineering

"This is an extended version of the jam used for the official Basimilus Iteritas Alia demo. [posted here]

Our Ambassador to the Stars, Patrick O’Brien, features the BIA in this all-Noise Engineering case.

Triggers come from the Bin Seq, and CV modulation comes from the Mimetic Digitalis stepped sequencer. The Muta Jovis switches off/on the CV, going into the BIA's inputs throughout the patch. The BIA is then sent to Roucha Legio, our stereo filter, which is activated with the gate coming from one of the Horologic Solum channels into the Bypass input.

More on the BIA here: https://bit.ly/3rPRryZ

Manis provides a nice, bright melodic splash throughout the jam, and Virt Iter Legio provides stereo bass drone sounds.

The BIA is a parameterized digital drum voice with its roots in the analog world. At its heart, the BIA is a simple six-oscillator additive and FM synthesizer with waveform, harmonic spread, and envelope controls. An adjustable noise oscillator and an extreme take on a wavefolder round out its synthesis abilities. Its straightforward controls make sound design fun and performable: create sub-shaking kicks, snares, hats, and unique drum hits with just a few tweaks.

• A go-to for percussion synthesis
• Also excellent at leads and basses
• Additive/FM digital synth with root and inspiration in the analog world.
• CV over every parameter
• Dedicated envelope output
• Encoder tuning

Basimilus Iteritas Alia is the successor to the original Basimilus Iteritas Alter. It was developed to sound nearly identical, with added features and new firmware-swapping capabilities."

NOYSTOISE NTDD Dual Delay Dub Siren Mini Synth

DEMO video upload by NOYSTOISE

"Short demo of the NTDD dual delay dub siren mini synth. More details available at www.noystoise.com"

See the prototype here.

via NOYSTOISE

"The NTDD is a PT2399 based dual-delay(DD) processor, and analog Dub-Siren circuit.

DELAY:
There are two PT2399 delay chips in series with independent delay time controls on the X and Y axis of the "TIME" joystick(Left).
The delay-mix and feedback-amount are controlled together by the "ECHO" knob. The "REGEN X2" switch enables the output from delay-chip 1 to be fed back to its input, as well as to delay-chip 2's input. When disengaged, only delay-chip 2 will have feedback(echo).
The Echo and Feedback circuits are designed more for experimental exploratory noise, and less for traditional audio processing.
The delay times can go very low and become very distorted, and the feedback is set very high to allow maximal feedback and self-filtering with the use of auto-leveling.
An optical compressor is used to prevent feedback runaway, while allowing lower signals to regenerate continuously.
An internal trimmer resistor can be used to adjust the sensitivity of the compressor.

SIREN:
The "Dub-Siren" consists of a square-wave VCO, gated envelope generator and LFO.
The envelope generator is active while the "GATE" switch is held, and the "ENV"(envelope) knob determines the Attack and Release time when the Gate switch is pressed and released.
The three position switch below the Envelope knob determines the Envelope knob's range. In the upper position, the Envelope knob will have a fast attack, and the knob will only change the release time of the envelope. In the center position, the Envelope knob range will be split between Attack and Release. Increasing the Attack time will in-turn decrease the Release time, and vice-versa. In the lower position, the envelope will have a fast Release time, and the ENV knob will only change the Attack time.
By default, the envelope generator controls the volume of the square-wave VCO, but can also be used to modulate either the Pitch of the VCO or the Rate of the LFO with the "MOD" 3-way switch. In the center position, the MOD switch is "OFF".
The LFO modulates the Pitch of the VCO.
The LFO can be set to Square-wave or Triangle-wave with the "SQR-TRI" switch. The LFO Depth and Rate are controlled with the X and Y axis of the right joystick.
The LFO voltage can be offset with the "BIAS" knob. While the LFO depth is set to minimum, the BIAS knob can be used to change the pitch range of the VCO independent of the LFO.

The NTDD also comes equipped with;
Volume knob(VOL)
Power ON/OFF switch with LED
1/8 inch(3.5mm) input jack
1/4 inch line output jack
5.1mm DC adapter(9V tip-positive)
Built-in speaker
3XAAA battery compartment."

Google translated:

background
The 78th work of my own modular synth.
One of Eurorack's standard modules is MATHS. One of the uses of MATHS is Envelope follower, but this Envelope follower is difficult to use properly.
I have created an Envelope follower in the past. This time, I decided to create a compressor as one of the application examples of Envelope follower.

Opto compressor
Compressors include VCA and FET as means of compressing audio, but there is also a type called opto compressor that uses Vactrol (analog photocoupler).
Although the responsiveness is poor, we decided to create an opto compressor this time because it can be created inexpensively with few parts.

Product specifications
Eurorack standard 3U 6HP size
Power supply: 20mA (+12V), 20mA (-12V)

opto compressor using Vactrol LCR-0203.
The idea is to use it to increase the sound pressure by compressing the entire MIXed audio, or to change the impression of the sound by compressing a single percussion sound such as KICK.

THRESHOLD: Adjustment of the level at which compression starts.
RATIO: Attenuation rate adjustment. By increasing RATIO, it is possible to compress at a magnification of 1x or less. In other words, the louder the input audio, the lower the output can be.
RELEASE: Adjust the RELEASE TIME of the built-in Envelope follower.
VOLUME: Audio out amplification. Lowering the THRESHOLD lowers the overall volume, so the VOLUME POT compensates for the volume drop.
LED: The more compresson is applied, the brighter the light will light up.
Also used for calibration.
IN: Audio input. It is assumed to be used at Vpp=10V (-5V~+5V).
OUT: Audio out

Additional SYNTH CITY Listings

"Fully functional Korg Delta, fun and easy to use synth that nails many classic sounds. Recently serviced and calibrated. The power transformer has been swapped from 100V (Japan) to a 120VAC unit for normal North America operation. Power supply fully recapped, noise free unit with lots of vibe! Works and sounds like it should. No issues.

Korg's Delta is an analog semi-poly synth/string machine, basically a slimmed down version of the Korg. Though limited in the range of sounds compared with other synths of the same genre, the sheer quality of the sound from this little beastie really does make it something of a marvel. Amazing retro synth strings and fat bass synth tones.

The synth is split into two sections, Strings and Synth, for which there are separate audio outputs along with a combined output for headphones or mixing. Each section has its own controls. The String section has two pitch sliders (16' and 8') along with two tone controls (Bass and Treble) and variable Attack and Release controls to modify the sound. The Synth section has four pitch sliders (16', 8', 4' and 2'). There is also a white noise generator along with a very effective 24dB/oct low pass filter (high pass and band pass options are included too) and full ADSR controls. The synth has no memory storage or MIDI, however it does has voltage control and gate ins and outs.

The string sounds are very basic but with its separate outputs and when mixed together with the polysynth you do get that classic 'layered' sound which is useful enough on this synth; and it's fully polyphonic, so you wont be running out of notes! There is a handy joystick to the left of the 49-note keyboard for pitch bending and modulation capabilities. The construction is solid and heavy partly due to the implementation of a wooden base but also because it was designed for heavy usage on the road. Added bonuses: noise modulation, stereo out (strings/synth split), and the ability to combine synth and strings or turn off oscillators in the mixer section."

"The Moog Sonic Six is a 2-VCO duophonic synthesizer with a built-in speaker and a 4-octave, 49-note (C-C) keyboard. Each VCO can output sawtooth, triangle, and rectangle (pulse/square) waveforms as well as 2 "waveform generators." A "quality" knob adjusts the width of the rectangular waveform. White or pink noise is also available. The Sonic Six can be set for 3 keyboard modes; high note priority, low note priority, or duophonic. The Sonic Six can also be set to an alternate tuning across the keyboard (different interval between octaves of the keyboard). Portamento rate is controlled by a knob. The envelope section features a basic envelope, with variable control for attack and decay and a switchable release (follows decay) and sustain. It had a single VCF, low-pass voltage controlled filter. Two multimode LFOs are available. Their speed is independently variable and can be controlled by the envelope."

The Split-8 makes for a very nice programmable polyphonic analog synthesizer with complete MIDI implementation. With 8 voices and 8 oscillators (Curtis 3394 SENTE chips) the Split-8 is a heavy contender against the Roland Juno-106.

The keyboard features splits and layers, all of which can be saved with patch data. Choose between 8 voice polyphony with 1 oscillator per voice, 4 voice polyphony with dual oscillators per voice, 2 voice polyphony with a mega 4 oscillators per voice, or the unison mode which is just a fat 8-voice solo mode for trance bass and lead heaven! Similar to the Juno-106, the Split-8 uses a Chorus effect to liven up the sounds.

Split-8 features:

One voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) for each of the eight voices. Switches are used to set any combination of triangular, sawtooth and square wave. Pulse width modulation (PWM) is available.
For each voice, the coarse tuning is available within four octaves as well as the fine tuning.
Programmable "poly mod" allows the audio output of one voice to feed another's VCF. In this case, the polyphony is reduced to four voices.
The voltage-controlled low-pass filter (LP VCF) has a four-stage structure with a slope of 24 dB per octave. Cutoff, resonance and modulation depth adjustments are available. A keyboard tracking mode is also provided (higher notes have a higher cutoff frequency).
The low-frequency oscillator (LFO) produces a triangular or rectangular waveform in the range from 0.25 to 20 Hz. It can be used to modulate the cutoff frequency of VCF, the pitch of the VCO and the pulse-width modulation.
ADSR envelope generators for VCF and VCA.
Keyboard "split" and "layer" functions are available.
Programmable chorus effect.
Full MIDI support, including downloading presets via the sysex protocol."
