Dirtywave M8 new Snapshots and Midi mutes 2.7.0 beta 3

"Lets check out some of the big features in coming in M8 2.7 firmware.

I've been testing beta for a bit and it's stable enough to show now.

2.7.0 will bring a lot of improvement and fixes but the three big things are Snapshot mode, load and save snapshots of the song state instantly from the mixer screen.

Because the M8 disk streams and Trash80 wizardry it can pretty much instantly save the song to to a temp file and recall it without interrupting playback.

This is similar to a feature on Elektron devices in which they snapshot the pattern into Ram.

The other big feature is the often requested ability to Mute and Solo tracks by sending a midi note. In the case of the omx-27 keyboard Mutes start at C-0

Also a new FM oscillator shape, the M8 FM synth doesn't just do Sines, and not it has a CLICK to help with making FM percussion.

"This is in the soon to be released Firmware 3.0 for the M8

This was filmed on Beta 0, 16 beta's later we got to RC1 and it should be ready for full release soon.
Uploaded from my phone (direct audio though) but I will post a bigger video on 3.0 soon with better audio and video.

This is the new Synth engine, it is called Hypersynth, it is a 13 saw engine, 12 saws and 1 sub.

It is designed as a chord engine, the saws can be split in stereo pairs across 6 pitches to make 6 note chords in a single track.

also now ADSR envelopes are in the M8. Which makes playing with a keyboard a lot of fun. So here we have 8 instances of hype synth (104 saws 8 notes were held on midi keyboard)

Thought it would be amusing to use the virus to control it."

I need to dig a little deeper into the manual for the freaq.

Loving the matrix led display. I was trying to incorporate one one those into my next project but couldn’t tame the noise for the multiplexed output.

Pseudo random chill FM beats Great Conjunction, Dirtywave M8, TX-6, Phantasmal Force

"Every week the wonderfully purple Great Conjunction, gets a little tiny bit closer to being completed. No major breakthroughs on the software front but I did squash a few bugs and probably created a few more. I spent a good deal of time reworking the PCB to incorporate a new audio output circuit. I’ve ordered up most of the parts that I’ll need for the next batch of five prototypes, and I hope to order of the prototypes within a week.

The GC provides most of the melodic and chordal work here, with key changes coming from the M8. The Phantasmal Force is simply controlling the volume levels on the M8, which is itself providing the bass and drums."

I tried to mention or show everytime I used the bluesky.
On the final clip with the Force the bluesky is on for the majority of it.
in the split stereo neutron clip, theres hall reverb from the mixer added.

Subtitles around 8 50 are meant to say it sounds more dramatic on grittier tones. My brain failed typing that one, long day.

"Generative patterns from the M8 are producing the rhythms and bass. M8 is also sending random chord information to the MT32 pi. The MT32 is playing back an E piano soundfont that is sent through the microcosm.

The microcosm is kind of like my therapy right now. I can feed it generative random stuff and play with the knobs and occasionally make some really magical sounds."

Clockwork Infinite Deep-space Rhythms - Great Conjunction, Wingie MKii & Dirtywave M8

"Development of the Great Conjunction hit a rough spot about a week ago when I changed microcontrollers from Promicro to Teensy 4.0. I had to rewire many pins on the board, but I think I’ve sorted most of it out, and I actually got MIDI running earlier this evening.

The M8 is primarily a mixer here, adding reverb and random delay. It’s also controlling the Wingie with a couple of LFO‘s set to vary the mix and decay rate of the resonators.

The Great Conjunction is the primary sound source. It’s producing FM sounds with three sequencers running.

This is my second M8 + Wingie jam with the Great Conjunction. This one’s a little more straightforward(?).

I’m still having some trouble locking the eight parameter knobs down when changing screens, so that’s on my to do list this week, along with sorting out a huge number of MIDI controls."

Therapsid hard synced PWM 6581

"This is a Therapsid from Twisted Electrons which was sent to me to make a demonstration video (this is not that video) as there are very few videos on it and I love sid chips and c64's I'm like Bane except I was born into Sid pulse width modulation instead of darkness. I have had it for over a month now and have been working hard testing pretty much every day to make sure it does everything it is suppose to do and everything a c64 fan might expect it to do. Some issues are still present as of this video but are being worked on. It is open source and I suggest anyone considering one go and read the issues section on Twisted Electrons github to see what bugs remain and what future enhancements might be coming.

while this works as just a very nice retro sounding hands on synth for those that are not commodore die hards it can be sequenced multitimbrally as shown here and controlled with cc's.
