Electro-Harmonix Effectology Vol.11 Crystal-Shimmer Effects

" Electro-Harmonix Effectology, Vol.11 Crystal-Shimmer Effects
By Bill Ruppert
Welcome to Electro-Harmonix's "Effectology" series, in which we create a remarkable
collection of impossible sounds using just a regular guitar and EHX effect pedals!
No keyboards, samplers or midi pickups were used.

In this episode Bill Ruppert demonstrates how to produce beautiful Crystal-Shimmer effects
as well as a new sound called "Symphonic".
To create the first two clips seen in the video I wired the effect pedals in parallel.
Placing the effects in a parallel chain opens up new and beautiful sounds not possible when using a standard series connection.
The third example "Symphonic" places the effects back in a series connection.
A volume pedal is used to swell the chords in and remove the attack of the guitar giving the guitar a string section type sound.
Its a beautiful sound from just one guitar!
The clip is a improvisation on the song "Adagio for Strings"by Samuel Barber.
This music has been used in many great movies you may have seen.
For more information on these pedals and actual settings please visit the Electro- Harmonix Forum"

Electro Harmonix Mini Synthesizer for iPad

Published on Jul 25, 2016 pantsofdeath

Mini Synthesizer for iPhone - Electro-Harmonix
iPad version: Mini Synthesizer - Electro-Harmonix

"From synthmuseum.com: It also has a single VCO with only one waveform -pulse- and an octave divider (dividers almost always produce square waves, as is the case here). The pulse wave has a dedicated LFO for PWM, controlled by the Phasing switch and the Phase Rate slider. (PWM is electronically easy to do and many manufacturers pretend that their PWM circuit is really a phase shifter). This is run through a filter that can be made to be a real phase shifter! The envelope controls on this filter are deceptively simple: you set the frequency at key down and the frequency at key up and the amount of time it takes to change from one to the other as a key is pressed/released.

The filter has a resonance (Q) switch and a 2x switch that raises one (but not both) of the frequencies being emphasized by an octave or so. The result sounds like (and probably is, although I don't have a schematic) a real phase shifter. Finally, there is a VCA and an effects processor. The effects processor is an analog delay line, with the usual echo controls, and I believe it is only available on the later units. Early ones don't have either the delay line or the strip above the keyboard that works like a ribbon to produce performer-controlled glide.

Between the bizarre filter and the fact that it likes to play notes below middle C - way below - I think this makes an excellent bass machine for serious analog junkies, although the lack of ability to do a percussion envelope will probably rule it out for Techno use."

FIRST LOOK DEMO: Electro-Harmonix Stereo Talking Machine pedal

YouTube Uploaded by musicradartv on Jun 28, 2011

"Unveiled at NAMM 2011, the Electro-Harmonix Stereo Talking Machine is one of the most expressive and musical filter stompboxes that we've encountered to date.

To hear the pedal's various sounds in isolation and to check out the full spec, visit the official Electro-Harmonix website.

For the demo track in the video above, we recorded all of the guitar parts straight into GarageBand via POD Farm, with everything but the rhythm section processed by the Stereo Talking Machine. We added a little EQ and ambience but the core guitar sounds were all created using the pedal's preset sounds.

Visit MusicRadar.com for all of the latest product news, video demos and reviews."

Electro Harmonix String9

video upload by Robin Rimbaud-Scanner

"This is some of the most fun I've had with a guitar pedal in a while. The polyphonic STRING9 String Ensemble from Electro Harmonix transforms a guitar into nine different string ensembles and string synthesisers, so I can still tap into the heart of my love of electronics whilst using my handsome Danelectro 59M guitar.

This is just live documentation of my improvising with it in the studio. Nothing special, just pretending I'm in a progressive rock band, but without the cape and long hair. And deliberate bum notes to keep you on your toes. Happy listening!"

Electro-Harmonix STRING9 String Ensemble (EHX Pedal Demo Bill Ruppert)

video upload by EHX

"The polyphonic STRING9 String Ensemble transforms your guitar into nine different string ensembles and string synthesizers while requiring zero modifications, special pickups, or MIDI implementation. In a 9 Series first, the STRING9 includes the signature EHX Freeze effect to sample and hold notes and chords with infinite sustain."

"The polyphonic STRING9 String Ensemble transforms a guitar into nine different string ensembles and string synthesizers while requiring zero modifications, special pickups, or MIDI implementation. It relies on the same technology powering all EHX 9 Series pedals. In a 9 Series first, the STRING9 includes the signature EHX Freeze effect on 3 of the presets to sample and hold notes and chords with infinite sustain.

A rotary switch on the STRING9 allows the player to select the sound of their choice, as follows:
SYMPHONIC: Re-creates the sound of a large symphony orchestra and features an octave down effect on the lower range of the guitar for a full sound

JUNE-O: Emulates the Juno® analog string synthesizer sound

PCM: Sound of a small string section sampled by a vintage PCM keyboard producing a warm vintage string sound

Electro Harmonix HOG

Title link takes you to shots via this auction. I know these aren't knew, just never took the time to check one out. Anyone know how these sound? Off to check the Tube...

"The Electro-Harmonix HOG is a totally polyphonic guitar synthesizer, giving the user complete control of up to 10 interval pitches. Musicians can unveil an entirely new tone potential with anything from extreme sub bass to powerful multi-octave chords, including fifth and third intervals. Dedicated Filtering and envelope control, with numerous setup options, make the HOG a must-have performance instrument. And NO special pickup is required and NO glitches are created.

Features include:

#10 intervals of pitch can be mixed by using 10 surface faders, which may then be played polyphonically with perfect tracking:

· 1 octaves down · 1 octave + a perfect fifth
· 2 octaves down · 2 octaves up
· Original pitch · 2 octaves up + a major third
· One Fifth up · 3 octaves up
· 1 octave up · 4 octaves up

#Six unique expression modes are accessible via the Exp button, expression pedal*and MIDI. Octave bends, step bends, volume control, user defined Wah-Wah, Filter control, plus two unique freeze modes: With Freeze Gliss, an expression pedal freezes a chord while letting you play over it having your frozen notes gliss to meet your new notes. The Freeze Volume freezes a chord allowing you to control its volume, with an expression pedal, as you play on top of it.

#An external “whammy” pedal and a momentary surface mounted Exp button, allow for real-time access and manipulation of all of the above expression modes. A new level of performance interaction.

#Dual Envelope generators that work with both the higher and lower frequency ranges. Allows unique contours of attack and release in two different harmonic regions.

#12 dB per octave 2-pole low pass filter and resonance controls manipulate the tone while also being a critical element within the expression modes.

#Surface Foot access for True Bypass, expression control and envelope engagement.

#Store performance presets when you use the optional external Electro-Harmonix foot controller. 9LDC-500 power supply included"
