Chasing Ghosts

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Hi All,
It's been a while since my last video and it will take a while to get back into the routine. I came down with a flu from hell and I've been out of order for two weeks. It's the first time since 2020 and I can't remember flu hitting this hard, not being able to sleep, eat, listen to modulars or watching TV. I tested negative on Covid-19, but maybe it's Covid-24. Who knows.

On January 30 I posted the 'Where's the Easel' video. I made a decision to go for Eurorack in 2020 and 'never' wander Buchla's official banana path. So while it's easier to just buy an Easel, spending $6K in a different universe is just not an option. So the Quest continues.

This is a video full of dead ends. I was pretty convinced I could approximate the Buchla with Shuttle System and the Sensel Morph controller but only got one aspect of it. Using the Beatstep Pro only confirmed how important that Electronic Music Box touch keyboard is.

It confirmed how close the Shuttle is to the Easel Command, and yet so far away. I thought the Verbos Touch Keyboard would be a solution, but it was not. I found a used one, but it felt unresponsive and didn't track pitch. Fortunately I managed to calibrate it, but my fingers and touchplates are not compatible.

Again, tunnel vision made me completely overlook the Buchla LEM 218E V3 touch keyboard - which now comes with Eurorack outputs on the side. So I took a leap of faith and ordered the 218E. Hopefully the Quest comes to an end just before March, hoping the Easel is more than a Eurorack ghost. Speaking of Ghosts, I also tried to fit the Ghost delay in the Shuttle, another dead end, which are actually u-turns. This was a tough video to make for many reasons and it felt like chasing ghosts. It's all over the place. But I think I am getting somewhere now, and learned a lot."

A Mastering Toolbox for Your Sounds & Music // Golden Master Pedal from Endorphines

video upload by DivKid

"The idea of some live mix polish, simple hardware mastering for modular/dawless/live set ups or simple a characterful parallel processor and DI box is certainly an exciting one. The Golden Master from Endorphines builds on inspiration from classic ‘90s mastering rack units and their experiences with live performances with synths & modular and puts together a box of multi band compression, EQ and multi band stereo mid/side based stereo enhancement.

This pedal version offers presets, sidechain or expression pedal inputs, stereo ins and outs, per band mutes (handy for setting up each band but also as a performative frequency dependent set of mutes!) and parallel processing (i.e. dry/wet mixing) options.

Info, manual etc //"

Exploring the GHOST Pedal

video upload by Waveformer

"The Ghost Pedal is a multi-effects distortion + filter + delay + reverb pedal with flexible routing and powerful modulation options. This video explores a part of the sonic landscape made possible by this pedal, with text overlays explaining the knob-twisting as I go along.

The Norand Mono plays a simple 8-note sequence, starting with a triangle oscillator, and then moving to richer timbres later on

The MS-70CDR is only provides a simple slow-moving AutoPan Delay, with depth set to maximum, so the delay volume is in effect modulated by a slow-moving LFO, like the echoes are circling around you and disappear when they're at your back.

The Golden Master Pedal is set up with the multiband compressor enabled on the low and mid bands. The Mid/Side-processor widens the stereo image for the upper and mid bands, and puts the lower (bass) band more towards center.

No effects were used on the Bluebox. It is only used for mixing/routing and for recording.

The audio is recorded to SD card on a Bluebox mixer/recorder and normalized in Audacity. Video is recorded on a Canon EOS M50 mk2 with the included EF-M 15-45mm lens. Audio and video is synchronized in DaVinci Resolve 18 (free version).

Thank you to for sending over the Ghost Pedal and the Golden Master Pedal for me to test out.

Tetrahedron - MicroFreak, Volca Drum, Nymphes, OXI ONE, Golden Master

video upload by Waveformer

"This is a Berlin School style jam where I explore how to use a MicroFreak Cloud Grains oscillator to provide different timbres across the keyboard. I familiarize myself with OXI ONE's matriceal sequencer. And finally, I get to know the Golden Master as an end-of-chain device for balancing levels, adding some polish and in general gluing the mix together. Jam and patch notes are included as text overlays in the video.

Thank you to for sending over the Golden Master pedal for me to test out.

The MicroFreak samples used for the Cloud Grains oscillator is part of the soundbank available for purchase here:"

"We proudly present the GOLDEN MASTER PEDAL: a 24-bit 96kHz multiband processor effect unit that redefines the art of sound manipulation.

AVAILABLE NOW from ENDORPHIN.ES directly and worldwide retailers: [see the dealers on the right]

Crafted with the discerning needs of both live musicians and studio virtuosos in mind, this pedal stands as a testament to punch and power. At its core, the Golden Master boasts 32-bit internal processing, delivering pristine audio that enriches stereo mixes and imparts life to individual elements.

This pedal brings a plethora of features including an classic 3-band equaliser with selective compression, end-of-chain limiter, multiband sidechain and stereo image widener with dry/wet control. Such a versatile array of tools makes the Golden Master an indispensable instrument for adding energy and clarity to your music - whether you are a guitar or bassists player or just mastering the whole mix directly into venue PA.
Innovating further, the per-band EQ can be controlled externally using an expression pedal or the sidechain envelope follower derived from an external audio source. This ground-breaking technique empowers you to harness granular control over the spectrum sculpting frequencies and dynamics with unparalleled precision.

Compact and lightweight, the GOLDEN MASTER PEDAL seamlessly integrates into live setups, allowing you to achieve commanding, stageready mixes effortlessly.
With the capability to store and recall 3 presets, morphing between soundscapes becomes an intuitive one-handed experience, ensuring your creativity flows unhindered.
Moreover, the Golden Master's high impedance inputs and pseudobalanced outputs transform it into an exceptional DI box for minimising

"We're thrilled to unveil the GHOST PEDAL: a collaborative masterpiece born from our ongoing synergy with Andrew Huang.

AVAILABLE NOW from ENDORPHIN.ES directly and worldwide retailers: [see the dealers on the right]

Tailored for audacious sound designers and electrifying live performers, the GHOST PEDAL embarks on an odyssey of multi-dimensional audio effects.

Prepare to be captivated by its arsenal of effects, including distortion, cabinet simulation, bitcrushing, and a trio of reverbs that span from lush halls with infinite freeze and shimmer to reverberating springs and ethereal reverses. A distinctive delay section takes centre stage, featuring a single delay line that can be harnessed for looping, stereo choruses and resonant textures.

The Ghost Pedal's expansive filter suite offers three distinct types – state-variable LP/HP, Band Pass, and a comb filter that morphs into a resonator with high resonance settings. Immerse yourself in sonic exploration as you modulate effects using the built-in multi-shape LFO or external sources such as the envelope follower, expression pedal or MIDI.

But what truly sets the Ghost Pedal apart is its Routing Matrix, providing six versatile routing options that redefine the sonic journey. With a simple button press, you can reshape the order of effects in the audio processing chain, from cataclysmic subharmonics to celestial shimmer reverbs.

The Ghost Pedal is a haven for creative expression, offering 9 presets that can be seamlessly morphed and recalled on the fly. Sharing and evolving your sound is effortless, as presets can be exchanged between users via SysEx messages opening the doors to endless sonic horizons.

The Ghost Pedal redefines convenience with its compact design, offering also an all-in-one solution for both pedal boards and multi-effect processors.

It boasts a carefully chosen selection of intuitive hands-on controls that eliminate the need for cumbersome menu diving, steep learning curve or connectivity overkill."

Melodic Eurorack Livestream rehearsal - 3 tracks, all-analog, mostly minimal, ambient modular synth

video upload by DreamsOfWires

"This was streamed privately some time ago as a practice run of 3 rather minimal, melodic tracks, partly to test the streaming technology would all work. It was originally put together as a live set for an actual gig that subsequently fell through, so I planned to try streaming instead it over at @AJHSynthOfficial , but abandoned it due to technical issues. This take was a bit hit & miss too, as it wasn't intended to be shown, but I thought I'd share it anyway rather than waste it, since it took a lot of work. Enable captions/subtitles for a few commentary notes.

Gigs: I've almost given up trying to find an opportunity to perform live, but if you are connected to/hosting a music/synth event in the UK and looking for artists, you're welcome to contact me via Bandcamp (since there's no messaging service here anymore, and FB became futile). I'm located in Norfolk. I would like to play outside the UK too, but it's just not financially viable for me at the moment.

Instrument: I used entrirely AJH Synth modules to generate the sounds in this set. They produce by far the best sound of any synth gear I've used, and are especially nice to play and tweak in real-time. They are hand-made by a small company in the UK, and most of the modules are authentic recreations of classic/vintage circuits, including all elements of the Minimoog, but with modern design sensibilities and reliability.

Modules used:
1 Glide & Noise
3 Vintage Transistor Core VCO's
1 Ring SM (as sub-octave generator and CP3 mixer)
1 Transistor Ladder Filter
1 Contour Generators
2 Discrete Cascaded VCA's
1 Dual LFO
1 Wave Swarm (dual wave animators)
1 Gemini 2412 (dual multimode 'SEM' VCF)
1 Fixed Filter Bank 914
1 Tap-Tempo VC-LFO
Sequenced by an Ground Control
Mixed in AUM on an iPad, with Dubstation 2 delay and EOS2 reverb.
Streamed direct via a Lumix GH5ii."
