Four synth drone

Four synth drone from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"4 synths, droning away

1. a Moog Rogue (through a Frostwave Resonator)
2. the triangle output of a Plan B Elf LFO (the bass tone)
3. a Korg Super Section (though a Frostwave Blue Ringer)
4. a Moog Opus 3

The A-143-1's first channel (in LFO mode) is acting as a clock source for the A-160 and A-161, which are triggering channels two - four.

The outputs of the 143-1 and the 160/161 pair are modulating both of the Frostwave pedals, as well as triggering an A-140, which is opening the channel on the A-132-3 which the Rogue is running through.

Sequencer with Voltage Controlled Switch

Sequencer with Voltage Controlled Switch from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"Using a Doepfer A-150 Voltage Controlled Switch to alternate between reset points on a Voice of Saturn Sequencer-- the /16 output from an A-160 Clock Divider is switching between the Step 5 and Step 9 reset points on the Sequencer (so that it plays the 4-note pattern three times and the 8-note pattern once).

CV Out from the Sequencer is controlling the High Pass Cutoff Frequency on a Frostwave Resonator (set to self-oscillate).

The Square output from the ELF LFO is sent to a multiple, and from there is:

1. clocking the Sequencer
2. triggering the Clock Divider
3. gating an A-140 Envelope Generator

The Audio output from the Resonator is sent to the top half of an A-132-3 VCA. One of the A-140's outputs is sending CV to the VCA, and the other 140 output is controlling the Low Pass Cutoff Frequency on the Resonator. I don't have a Low Pass Gate-- this is the closest I can get to a "plucky" sound.

I apologize for the audio and video being a hair out of sync. Do your best to ignore it.

FROSTWAVE THE RESONATOR - KORG MS20 Filter Clone

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"You are looking at a Frostwave Resonator analog filter pedal. Made in Australia, currently out of production. It is a Korg MS20 synthesizer filter in a guitar pedal box, combining resonant high pass and low pass filters with a good dose of CV control for both sides. Plug an expression pedal into it, or interface it with modular synthesizer gear."

With resonance turned up, this thing cuts like a knife.

White Noise - All Sounds Within

"white noise only with filters and resonators and reverb

Well Todd Barton got me started on this from a lecture a long time ago. White noise is a treasure trove of sound but like truffle in the forest you have to dig for it a bit. Its lurking there waiting to get out once the proper door is opened.

This is one starts out with the white noise source only but then gets filtered, resonated and reverbed returning to white noise at the end, the stuff in the middle is the interesting part, although quite random.

The different notes emerge from self resonating Frostwave Resonator filter (MS20 clone) receiving 4 sample and hold random CVs for hi and low pass cutoffs and resonator levels,

A Murf adds the percussive fun, an H9 does for echoes and reverb

mostly this is an experiment, proof of concept, not really a 'piece' so to speak, use headphones if you can, enjoy the ride.

Binary sequence

Binary sequence from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"I want a Blacet Binary Zone, but the module isn't available in Euro format. So, I've tried to recreate it using what I already have.

In this patch:

The Low Pass Filter in a Frostwave Resonator is set to self-oscillate. It's then sent to a ring modulator (a Frostwave Blue Ringer).

The Mix Out on a Doepfer A-143-1 is sent to the Frequency CV IN on a Plan B ELF LFO.

The Square Out from the LFO is sent to a multiple, and from there to:

1. the Trigger In on a Doepfer A-160 Clock Divider.
2. the Gate In on a Doepfer A-140 Envelope Generator.

The /2, /4, /8 and /16 outputs on the 160 are sent to Inputs 1, 2, 3 and 4 on a Doepfer A-138c Polarizing Mixer.

The out the mixer is sent to the top half of a Doepfer A-170 Dual Slew Limiter, and from there to the CV In on the Blue Ringer.

The /32 out on the 160 is sent to the CV In on the top have of the Doepfer A-150 Dual Voltage Switch. The 160's /64 output is sent to the first I/O jack (the second I/O is left empty). The output of this channel is sent to an attenuator, and from there to the Low Pass Frequency CV In on the Resonator.

The output from the ring modulator is sent to the top VCA in a Doepfer A-132-3 Dual Lin/Log VCA (the Lin/Log switch is switched for a moment at 2:00), and from there to an FMR RNC (which is not doing anything to the quiet notes) and then to the computer. No other outboard, besides the compressor.

The output of the 140 is sent to CV IN on that VCA, which you can hear at 0:44.

Wogglebug Stepped Out, Heart In

Wogglebug Stepped Out, Heart In from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"I feel like most of the Wogglebug videos I've seen lean toward the module in more extreme settings. But dialing things back on the unit can yield some beautiful results!

In this patch (thanks to Tony Make Noise for explaining it to me!!), I'm sending a Triangle Out from the Plan B ELF LFO to the Heart In on the WB, with the Chaos Amount fully CCW.

The Stepped Out from the WB is sent to the HP Cutoff Frequency In on a self-oscillating Frostwave Resonator. This is sent to a Frostwave Blue Ringer, and from there to a 132-3 VCA.

The Clock Out from the WB is sent to the Gate In on an A-140, the output of which is sent to the CV In on the VCA.

Turning the Chaos Amount clockwise "randomizes" the triangle wave by mixing the LFO with the Wogglebug's stepped output voltages. Subtle changes go a long way!

Running the ELF LFO at audio rates into the Heart In produces standard Sample & Hold sounding results from the Stepped Output.

Even in a small system, I'm finding fun new tricks to do with the Wogglebug every day! Get one already, and if you already have one, get a second one!!

Touch clock

Touch clock from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"Following the Make Noise manual's suggestion for "stopping" the Wogglebug's clock by patching an otherwise unconnected cable into the Clock Input, I thought I'd try touching the end of the cable to advance the clock...

It worked!

Here's the patch:

The Wogglebug's Clock Out is sent to a mult, and from there to (a) the Gate In on an A-140 Envelope Generator and the Trigger In on an A-160 Clock Divider.

The Clock Divider's outputs are sent to an A-138c mixer's inputs, the output of which is controlling a Z3000 VCO (via an A-170 Slew Limiter, lightly-- basically a Binary Zone patch).

The Saw Out from the Z3000 is sent to the top half of the A-132-3 DVCA, and the Square Out is sent to the Signal In on an A-196 PLL. The Phase Comp Out from the PLL is sent to the bottom half of the 132-3 (and from there to the computer, right channel).

Both VCAs are being controlled by the A-140.

The top half of the 132-3 is sent out to a Frostwave Resonator and a Blue Ringer (and from there to the computer, left channel).

The Resonator's Low Pass Frequency is being controlled by the Wogglebug's Stepped Output.

Touching the tip and the sleeve of the Clock cable at the same time advances the clock by one step; touching the tip alone cycles it very quickly.

I'm sure with a bit of attenuation, this could be more precise!

Analogue Solutions Phobos Filtered Coffee & DSI Evolver

YouTube via dkimcg

"I just got the Analogue Solutions Phobos Filtered Coffee. It's an all analog filter based on the famous Korg MS-20's filters. The sequence is played by the DSI desktop Evolver with the the filters wide open and no resonance. All the filtering you hear is done by the Filtered Coffee with some slight coloration by the Urei LA-22 compressor. I start with the filter in the "unfiltered" settings, which still sounds pretty warm, some may like it some may not. I like the warmness it gives the sound, but I wouldn't use it on every track. I bet the MPC would sound great through it, now I wish I had a pair of these, which I guess you can sync up just by patching the LFO outs and ins in the back panel (there's over a dozen ins and outs, audio and CV in back).

Then I twiddle knobs starting with the lowpass. I tried to shoot it as clear as I could so anyone watching could see what I'm twisting. I twiddle some more, and then make push everything to sound a lot different than the source. As a bonus, I turn on the Roland RE-201 for more Space Echoey tape delay/spring reverb. There's no digital processing on this recording, what you hear is what I recorded.

I found out about this filter while looking for a good MS-20 filter clone. While I was begging the guys at Big City Music to sell me a frostwave resonator, which hopefully soon will be back in production, I came across this filter. I saw this and a Vermona filter. I wanted a MS-20 clone, and the Filtered coffee was based on it. So...I like coffee, I like MS-20's filters sound, I needed a filter a bit more easily tamed than the T-Resonator. Filtered Coffee it is...

The movie looses sync slowly, I think I have to figure out better settings, better luck next time. It's not too bad tho, it's off no more than a second or two at the end. I think it's a timecode issue I had when editing in the good audio into the video, but I'm too lazy to re-render now.

Enjoy."

"Ms20 Analog Low pass and High Pass filter with expression pedal use for bass guitar, guitar or synthesizer. 100% Handmade point to point made in Greece. Www.TsomokosAudio.com"

Not seeing it on their site as of this post. I remember the Frostwave Resonator as the first MS20 style filter pedal. It can strip the paint off the wall. I still own mine.
