Nice black & white shots.

"This classic polysynth is in as near-mint condition as you’re likely to ever find. Basically unused. That classic John Carpenter soundtrack sound, with crazy deep mod matrix and bitimbrality. These days editors in VST and iOS make it easy to edit its depths. Comes with original power cable, printed manual, extra patches on CD-ROM."

CHRONOS - "Cinematic Synthesizer"ᴴᴰ

video upload by Altar Records

"All Links ► https://bnd.lc/cinematicsynthesizer

Chronos, one of the pillar artists of Altar Records is back with a new brand album recorded live on vintage synthesizers.

Synthesizers have been a big part of film music for the past 50 years.
Think Vangelis and "Blade Runner", John Carpenter and "Halloween", Daft Punk and "Tron" movies...

Nick Klimenko aka Chronos is back with a second live-played album exploring all the depths of hardware analog and digital synthesizers.

Eight hardware synthesizers from four different decades were chosen for creating an unique cinematic music atmosphere.

The synth patches were made especially for this album.
Iconic and new ones, rich analog & complex digital sounds are taken from:

Alesis Ion
Yamaha SY-77
Arturia PolyBrute
Roland D50
Kawai K5000
Korg King Korg
Arturia MatrixBrute
Korg DSS-1

Everything was played and recorded live in one take!
Nick has spent hours in his studio, practicing live playing,
sequencing patterns and harmonies, making atmospheric pads for every single piece in this release.
Then he hit the “record” button and played every song at one time.

Dedicated to Klaus Schulze (1947-2022)"

Patch of The Week: Brass & Blade - inspired by Vangelis & Jarre, a melodic jam with 2 patches

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"First of 3 videos with the Gemini 2412, starting with this simple performance using 2 sounds derived from a monophonic synth brass patch, loosely inspired by Vangelis (Blade Runner) and Jean-Michel Jarre (specifically Oxygene). The next 2 videos will show you how to make the sounds.
The patch emulates the Oberheim SEM design (2 VCO, 1 VCF, 2 ADS envelopes), as the Gemini 2412 is based on the filter from that classic gorgeous-sounding synth module. As many will know, Vangelis famously used the CS-80, and Jarre a variety of expensive early synths, but the humble SEM wasn't necessarily associated with either of them. However, it's character of sound, and that of the Gemini, make it a particularly good choice for brass-like pads and leads, either using it's bandpass filter (as in this video), or it's high pass and low pass filters (much like the CS-80).
In the next video I'll show how to construct the brass sound from the later half of this video, and in the video following that will show how to make a couple of sounds directly based on the CS-80 patches used in Blade Runner, so stay tuned.

Check out the AJH Synth playlists for more 'Patch of The Week' videos, which will be either performances or 'how to' guides detailing a range of sounds, some familiar, some less so, and each containing a patch sheet at the end to show you how to construct it for yourself.

Patch of The Week: 'Assault on Precinct 13' Gemini 2412 Bass Cover (1976 John Carpenter soundtrack)

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"Just for fun, a patch inspired by a classic synth soundtrack from the 1970's. This time using the Gemini 2412, 1 VCO and Ring SM to create a version of John Carpenter's excellent soundtrack for his 1976 movie 'Assault on Precinct 13'. I don't know for certain, but I've a hunch that he might have used an Oberheim SEM module (or perhaps one of it's polyphonic configurations; Four Voice etc), as it sounds like one in the bass part at least, so I've used the Gemini 2412 to simulate it, since this VCF is based on the SEM filter. The SEM (Synthesizer Expander Module) was a classic 2-oscillator analogue synth module from 1975. It sounds to me like a single sawtooth being used in the movie theme, but I add an additional sub-octave using the Ring SM - it's a cover version, not an attempt to recreate it 100%.

I use the Muting Mixer for the VCA, along with it's overdrive function, to create a more aggressive, punchy bass sound, somehow more befitting a dark, low-budget thriller movie of the seventies. I also chose a reverb setting that to me sounded a little claustrophobic. Patch Notes and PDF link further down the page.

Day Of The Dead - John Harrison Cover + Additional Halloween Vibes by Scott Ampleford

video upload by Scott Ampleford

"DX7. And lots of it!
When looking for a good tune for my annual Halloween cover, I began by looking through John Carpenter scores but found it difficult to pick one that I havn't already covered on this channel. I needed to cast a wider net, so began searching out other cult favourites, when suddenly it occured to me that I'd never seen any of George Romero's classic zombie movies!
After watching Night Of The Living Dead and very quickly burned through the rest of the franchise, I found that I loved this groovy entry into the series.
Though the 3rd installment in Romero's "Dead" works is considered one of the weaker films, John Harrison's synth-heavy score has swiftly become one of my favourites and I'm glad to present it here.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Cinematic Vibrations // Synth Jam with Korg Minilogue XD, Sequential PRO 3, Roland Gaia and Virus TI

video upload by Sounds of Synth

"Hey all,

This week we have gone to the movies! This track is a nod to those massive cinematic film scores and themes. Think dramatic sounds and repeating motifs.

I haven't been inspired by a specific film but more that classic cinematic sound experience you get when you go to the cinema. Having said that the final result is a bit like John Carpenter meets Marvel Avengers!! :D

All samples were triggered live from a Novation Launchpad and the track was recorded in one take straight into Ableton Live. Nothing was added except for a bit of EQ and reverb."

John Carpenter - Escape From New York (Agile Kind Mix)

video upload by Paul Louth

"I got my Prophet 10 a few hours ago, this is a test of what it can do with a score that was well known for using the original Prophet 5. I didn't try to recreate the sounds exactly, this is more aggressive than the original, but it shows off the synth more. I played around with the vintage setting on the various sounds to get that melancholic, detuned, and organic sound that the original Prophet 5 was well known for.

It was mixed pretty quickly, so it's probably a bit muddy, but still this sounds great for a few hours of playing around."

"Roland JD-Xi cover of the classic minimalist theme by infamous composer Ennio Morricone, from the amazing 1982 remake of The Thing - a landmark achievement in practical make-up FX from Rob Bottin and Stan Winston (he made the dog creature)."

Phosphenes (DiN65) by Dave Bessell & Parallel Worlds

https://dinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/phosphenes-din65

"The names of Dave Bessell & Parallel Worlds should be familiar to aficionados of the DiN label with various solo & collaborative albums under their belts. “Phosphenes” see these two well respected musicians team up for their third collaborative release on DiN.

Following on from Morphogenic (DiN41, 2012) & Dystopia (DiN56, 2018) this new album builds on their previous work creating an imaginary Synthwave soundtrack. Bakis Sirros the mastermind behind Parallel Worlds provides the skittering rhythmic backdrop to the tracks over which he and Bessell overlay ominous bass lines, twisting melodies and creative sound design that recall a shadow of 1980s John Carpenter film scores. Bessell also adds his unique guitar style that he so effectively uses in his other well known side project with the synth quartet Node. Both musicians make extensive use of modular synth systems but in very different ways that perfectly blend together in these eight atmospheric tracks.

The duo of Bessell and Sirros really do have a unique sound that is unlike anything else released in the world of electronic music and “Phosphenes” presents another chance to enter their darkly twisted sonic world.

Halloween (1978) - Opening Theme (Movie Version) Cover

KOSmusic

"This is my cover of one of John Carpenter's most famous horror themes: Halloween (1978) - Opening Theme (Movie Version).

I have always loved this music composed of piano sound and John Carpenter's unmistakable synths, that make it truly one of a kind and perfectly suited for a movie that has to keep in suspense!

To get as close as possible to the nuances of the original piano, I chose not to use the MIDI sequencer but to record it live to give it greater expressiveness, a slight irregularity (in particular at the beginning of the track where the piano increases the speed and then stabilizes) and realism.

I used the CS1x sounds for the synth sound that plays along with the piano (starting at minute 0:15) and the "saw" string sound which starts from minute 1:19."
