FAT Freebass FB383 & MAM FB33

"Famous German made TB303 clone sold under different names:
MAM MB33
Freebass FB-383

This is the Orange and silver version, I also have the older black version for sale. Perfect condition.

The MB 33 is a rack-mounted TB-303 clone released in the mid-nineties by German synth maker MAM (Music And More). It's basically identical to the Freebass 383 (which had a different front-panel design). It is a true analog monophonic bass synthesizer with MIDI implementation so you can create 303-like bass lines from your sequencer. Its single VCO offers the same two basic waveforms as the TB-303: a sawtooth and square wave. But in the MB 33 they can be mixed together for a more interesting tone than the 303 could originally produce.

Additional knobs control the VCO tuning, filter frequency cutoff, resonance, envelope mod amount, envelope decay time and accent intensity - the same controls found on the TB-303! The 24dB lowpass filter can also produce the characteristic sound of the 18 dB filter used in the original 303. There's also an auto-slide function (4 octave range) for producing those 303-style slides and a separate input for filtering external signals through it. Unfortunately there is no program storage."

Next! Superbass 4.4 Demo (aka mam MB33 mkII)

YouTube via jkselsyn.

"A midi analog synthesizer performed with a step sequencer (off camera). "Next!" is a Stanton brand that produced a series of midi equipment for DJ use. This product is a re-branded MAM (Music-And-More) MB33 mkII made in Bavaria.

It tries to sound like a TB-303 but it falls short compared to the real thing. (It's still useable.) The first slow sequence has long notes playing the synth. What you hear is the longest possible note length the synth can produce."

MAM / F.A.T. FREEBASS FB383

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"FB 383 offers all the same basic sounds and controls as the original TB-303 in a 1-unit rack module.

It has just 8 basic knobs for the same basic 303-like control: tune, filter cutoff, resonance, envmod, accent and decay.

Unlike the 303 however, the oscillator can be varied from sawtooth to square from a knob on the front!

Also featured is an external audio input to the filter for processing other elements.

The Freeform Analogue Technologies (FAT) Freebass FB383 (also sold as the MAM MB33) is a 1U 19-inch rack-mounting MIDI synthesizer module dedicated to doing just one thing - imitating the sounds of the Roland TB-303 Bassline.

It uses genuine analogue technology to produce the familiar 'acid' sounds, but adds MIDI control, so you don't have to cope with the Roland's quirky programming system - just hook up the Freebass to your MIDI sequencer, and play away.

Dispensing with fripperies such as patch memories and continuous controllers, the Freebass is all about live performance - once you start twiddling those knobs in real time, you'll be lost in a world of acid madness.

Features include MIDI input, selectable MIDI channel using DIP switches, an audio input for routing eternal sources through the Freebass filter, a single mono output, Auto-tune function, and controls for Tune, Wave (variable between square and sawtooth, so actually capable of a wider range of sounds than the Bassline), Filter Cutoff, Filter Resonance, Envelope Modulation Amount, VCA/VCF Accent (triggered when MIDI velocity signal is above a certain level), Envelope Decay and Master Volume."

arduino sequencer

YouTube via 909techno
"arduino - creating new sequence, repeat 8 times, create another new sequence. sends note, accent, slide to mam mb33mkii and kick, open hi hat and closed hi hat to tr909. will add buttons and knobs to adjust the chances of sequence attributes (more slides, more octive jumps, etc.). you can also consider this video a decent demo of the mam mb33 mkii - all the synth sounds are from it. distortion is built-in. added a bit of reverb and compression that is all."

MAM SQ16 MIDI Step Sequencer SN S162701001

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction
Made in Bavaria.

"MAM brings you a carefully designed 16-step sequencer that finally lets you have all the fun you want with your favorite sounds.

Creating the professional House, Techno, Jungle, Tribal or any other dance music that you want to make is easy with the SQ16.

The SQ16 controls drum expanders like the new ADX 1 and Bass Synths like the MB33 MK 11.

Step programming with 16 LEDs enables the "live" setting of STEPS and ACCENTS, for 16 Steps per each of the 64 patterns you can store. Continual synchronisation information about this groove-central (sync, midi-cock, start/stop/continue) is at your service.

The SQ16 offers several functions for extra fun and games, like delay, arpeggio and rotate.

According to "Keyboards" about the SQ16: "...a real champ in its price-class, fun to use and a wake-me-up for tired rack mount users."

Some nice features of the SQ16

Notes can be recorded into it, they don't have to be programmed. Also, you can record the notes on a midi channel of your choice that may be different from the channel that the track transmits. It has an arpeggiator, and you can record the arpeggiated notes into sequencer patterns. There is a rotate function that can shift and do unpredictable things to the step play position, allowing interesting pattern variations. Patterns can be chained or combined into songs (14 song steps with up to 32 repeats of each). There are 64 patterns and 8 songs, but these can be saved into one of 8 memory blocks (with all parameters). The midi set concept allows a pattern to be quickly mapped into one of 16 midi sets that define the midi channels for each track (and note numbers for the drum tracks).

Technical Data:

Concept: pattern-oriented MIDI-sequencer with 16 steps

Step-Data: 13 'instrument' tracks, 3 'note' tracks

User Data: 8 blocks with 64 patterns, 8 songs, 16 chains, 16 MIDI-sets, 16 step-sets, 16 rotate-settings, 15 mute-settings

Play-Modes: patterns, song, chain

Particulars: recording of note tracks in real time, recording variations (step, arpeggio, etc.), rhythmic variations (rotate), delay/echo function

Playing element: 47 keys

Indicators: 62 LEDs, 7-segment-display

Connecting jacks: MIDI in, MIDI out, MIDI thru, sync out, external power source

Power: 2 W

Dimensions: 320 x 60 x 172 mm

Weight: 1,4 kg

Equipment: mains adaptor (12V AC / 830 mA)

This unit includes owner's manual, MAM SQ16 cheat sheet and US AC adapter, repaired and working. The MAM SQ16 is in excellent working condition and is fully functional."

MB33 Acid

video by YouTube via narki86 | July 22, 2010

"Just a quick demo track for testing my new MAM MB33 II analogue synth, drums by Machinedrum. Its essentially a TB-303 clone although it doesn't sound very similar, I gotta say I do like the sound, it sounds more aggressive and overdriven than a 303 without even any distortion added, and it can deliver some good oomph, all in all I am happy with it :)"
