NAMM 2025: Entropy and Sons' Recursion Studio Synth
video upload by sonicstate
"We caught up with Gene from Entropy and Sons at NAMM 2025 to discuss the latest updates to their Recursion Studio synthesizer.
Previously unveiled but now fully released, this independent device doesn't require a laptop, underscoring its plug-and-play design. Featuring multiple CV jacks and full MIDI capability, the synth integrates smoothly with a range of equipment. Unlike typical loop-based setups, Recursion Studio is generative, to provide dynamic visuals in real-time. It houses modular instruments under the hood, offering a remarkable level of control. Gene highlighted Wi-Fi updates, which make keeping the software current straightforward.
Recent enhancements include three new instruments, notably the 3D and 2D oscilloscopes, enriching its already diverse capabilities. A notable feature is video feedback simulation, illustrating the wide array of visual effects on offer. The synth, which is HD-ready, strives for production quality, suitable for live performances or studio use."

Social Entropy Engine Sequencer with CV Expansion
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"From Social Entropy:
Engine is a powerful multitrack step sequencer with 8 polyphonic tracks for recording both melodic and percussion patterns.
Pattern chaining, snapshots and a song mode help move your ideas from simple loops to completed songs.
The six performance knobs can be used to control external devices or the built-in performance effects system, which includes velocity and gate offsets and ratcheting.
Engine includes comprehensive editing features to fine tune your performance, with rotation, cut/copy/paste for both patterns and individual steps.
STRUCTURE 8 Polyphonic Tracks Each of the eight tracks can be programmed with individual time settings for scale, length, shuffle and skipped steps. This allows for experimenting with polymeters and polyrhythms.
Synth type patterns can record and play up to four notes of polyphony, while drum type patterns have sixteen notes of polyphony.
512 Patterns Each track has 4 banks of 16 patterns, for a total of 512 patterns.
A pattern can be up to 64 steps in length, and patterns can be chained together for even longer passages, up to 1024 steps!
128 Snapshots 64 snapshots allow you to store settings across all eight tracks for quick recall.
This includes things like selected patterns and pattern chains, track mutes, transpose and individual drum mutes. Snapshots make it easy to construct songs on the fly.
32 Songs Entire performances can be performed using the 32 songs. Songs are created as a sequence of snapshots that can be programmed or recorded in realtime.
6 Control Knobs The 6 knobs can be used to send MIDI control messages or control voltages with the optional CV expansion. This makes Engine the perfect studio centerpiece.
WORKFLOW Realtime, Grid and Step Recording With three types of recording, you can choose the right method for your workflow, and you can switch between them any time.
Grid recording gives you the traditional drum machine type programming interface, which works great for synth lines also.
Realtime recording lets you play notes in via the mini-keyboard or using MIDI controllers, great for capturing a live performance.
Step recording moves automatically from step to step as you enter note events. This is great for generating unexpected grooves."

covacid2020 - Live Acid Techno - Lockdown set up - BS2, FR777, ES2, Virus C, Engine, KP3
Published on Apr 21, 2020 zafrosoundz
"covacid2020"
I brought some equipment home from the studio for the lockdown period. I made this acid track whilst reminiscing of the raving days. The 90's were a great time and moulded my style!
I'll be completely pulling this set up apart to make way for a new addition, the Roland MC707 so watch out for more new content. coming soon.
Thanks and enjoy.
Gear list and set up.
Social entropy engine - Main clock, sequencing Bass Station 2 and Access virus C
Korg Electribe 2 - Running drums, perc and some bass.
Future Retro 777 - The acid machine, output(mono) to input L of the Virus to use its effects and filter.
Bass Station 2 - Playing Arps/rave sound, output(mono) going to input R of the Virus to use effects, filter and LFO's.
Access Virus C - Playing lush pad intro, mainly used for onboard effects for this performance.
Korg Kaos Pad 3 - Using the onboard node 8 effect and looping vocals.
No post production, this was recorded live using a Zoom Q8 camera input straight from the Behringer UB802.

Fixing The Sad Sequencer: How to repair a sad MIDI sequencer
Published on Jan 16, 2019 LeoMakes
"Watch Leo repair the sad little hardware sequencer with the broken screen. Because sequencers belong in the studio, not the lab bench!
In this video, Leo tries to fix his friend's MIDI sequencer with a broken screen (an Engine from Social Entropy Electronic Music Instruments). We take the unit apart, discuss different strategies for repairing gear, talk about why every lab should have a hot air rework station, and--after some trial and error--we finally fix the issue. Hooray for little sequencer. I hope it lives on and makes lots of techno.
