MakeDrums | Telharmonic, LXD and Strega

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"There's a reason why MakeNoise doesn't have a dedicated drum module. They'll always encourage you to make your own noise. Telharmonic used to be the only module with a dedicated noise output, but it's discontinued. Fortunately the new Spectraphon firmware makes up for that loss. Strega's delay can also make a mighty rumble, but it needs to be shaped by an envelope to qualify as a percussive strike. If you have a 0-coast nearby, you can use the external input to do this.

I am using the LxD for this because it's a true vactrol based LPG. It's not discontinued (yet), but it's almost impossible to get. It used to sell around $100, but people dare to ask $300 for it now. You can still get the $200 Optomix so there's no need to pay that kind of cash. With the risk of repeating myself: get one before it's too late. If you don't have a LPG, you have too much VCA's. I am using an aftermarket LxD faceplate from a company that went out of business due to the cancel culture. There's a Christianity fish symbol on the back and the Community did not appreciate evangelism through faceplates. In the end, it's just a beautiful black LxD faceplate and it's taming my Witch. May the Lord open.

I am also getting a bit of help from my highly appreciated pair of Phonogenes. The black and gold used to be part of the shared system, but many people sold it when the Morphagene came - which is superior in every way except one. I'll explain tomorrow."

XPO Tutorials | Episode 03 | Make it HUGE

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"After 10 months of XPO silence it's time to make some noise. In this episode I'll make a huge distorted analog lead without using a distortion. Just the six stereo L/R outputs will do. However, with the help of a 2nd oscillator 'sync' (Spectraphon) you can get some amazing distorted jittery sounds that can make a serious lead. You can also mellow it down to a deep drone with the help of a filter.
In the second part of the video I used Morphagene to create three layers but it would take 20 minutes to listen to them one by one, so I mixed them up into a composition that's worthy of going to my BandCamp 'ever growing modular album'."

video upload by murratti 127

"Black Sequencer from erica synths controls the bass drum from mosaic, the pique from after later audio, the kermit from industrial music and chainsaw from acid rain. 0-CTRL from make noise controls the resonate from after later audio, this signal is filtered with night rider from ryk and the mimeophone is used as an effect. Other effects and voices from the Benjolin v2 from after later audio. Roucha legio and yester versio from noise engineering.

My voice from the Loopman controlled with math and soundhack with morphagene from make noise. Hope you like this video! Comments welcome!"

Morphagene // Mega Modularis' First Reel

video upload by Mega Modularis

"OK! Here we go, this is my first try with the Morphagene, I was very excited to finally receive this module, which has been on my wish list for quite a while, so look out for plenty of Morphagene exploration coming soon. I started with a nice loop from Rangoon on the Lubadh and proceeded to explore and figure out how the Morphagene works, and you can come along with me for the journey! This was my first Reel, although I think after filming this I realised I’d made a new reel and still had an empty first reel, but hey, I’m still learning and exploring how this module works! My goal was to create some nice ambient soundscapes from a relatively simple melodic loop, and I think I accomplished that, what do you think? Of course the Morphagene was helped along my Mimeophon and Beads, some of my favourite ambient making modules! Anyway, sit back & enjoy! MM.

Patch Notes:

Audio: Loop from Big T Music Rangoon on the @instruo Lubadh
Main Voice: @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Morphagene
Audio Processing & FX: Mutable Instruments Beads & Make Noise Mimeophon

Let's build an atmospheric patch!

video upload by MAKEN0ISE

"This week, Pete from the Make Noise Instagram channel guest hosts with a walkthrough of a recent patch created for our social media pages, the original of which can be found here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn2xR3xLReI/

Some notes on the video:

This is an 0-Coast, 0-CTRL, Morphagene patch, which uses XOH as a stereo mixer and Strega as a hyper-atmospheric delay processor. In this walkthrough we re-build the patch from scratch, sharing tips and tricks galore along the way.

Some concepts discussed in this video are covered in greater detail in the following links: [video playlist below]

Also, while not mentioned in the video, the Morphagene's Gene Smooth control (as found in the User Defined Firmware options) was set to "1" for this patch. For more information on Gene Smooth, check out this video: [last video in playlist below]

Touch of SIX-TRAK, Sequential Analog Synthesizer | Eternity Hotline

video upload by Eternity Hotline

"The little finger, or pinkie, also known as the baby finger, fifth digit, or pinky finger, is essential for shredding Six-Trak, Sequential Circuits 1984 analog synthesizer. In this performance, executed with some help from the little finger, Six-Trak parades a breathtaking array of warm analog keys, agglutinated delightfully against a crisp Drumatix beat accompanied by Meris Ottobit Jr.

Session Six - Part 3 (Make Noise XPO, 2x Morphagenes, NI Kontakt)

video upload by Rheyne

"Sounds are from a Make Noise XPO, a pair of Morphagenes, an Instruo Ts-L, and piano from Kontakt.

The strumming was played and recorded from Arkhis in Kontakt and loaded into the first Morphagene, with chords chosen by the Y-channel of the René sequencer. The arpeggio is from the XPO through a QPAS, sequenced with the X-channel. The C-channel is controlling the bass from the Instruo Ts-L. The piano is from The Maverick in Kontakt, played into the second Morphagene and processed as a 'broken echo' effect.

Recorded in one take with no overdubs."

Ambient Improvisation in Nature featuring ARP 2600 and Modular Synth

video upload by Bastian Benjamin

"Recently bought a power bank that is small yet powerful enough to keep my Modular and ARP 2600 running for 3 hours.

In this video, I recorded a small improvisation in a forest near my home. You can even see some horses in the background.

Although I think the lead melody sound is way too loud. I still decided to upload the video because I like the overall vibe a lot!

Sound sources:
Korg - ARP 2600
Verbos Electronics - Complex Oscillator
Noise Engineering - Bassimilus Iteritas Alter
Mutable Instruments - Plaits
Make Noise - Morphagene
Ritual Electronics - Altar (Filter with resonance 100% and using the 1v/oct input)"

New England Synth Fest - Bill T Miller Synthesizer Performance @ Museum of Science Boston - 08.11.22

video upload by Bill T Miller

"Bill T Miller Synthesizer Performance @ New England Synth Fest @ Museum of Science Boston - 08.11.22. This BTM stereophonic improv performance features a CLASSIC SYNTH array... Buchla Easel Command 208-C, Korg ARP 2600, Moog Mother-32, Make Noise O-Coast and 4MS STS Sampler & Toppobrillo MiniMix.

Video Produced/Directed/Edited by Bill T Miller
Cameras: BTM & Sheri Hausey & Beth Moguel

BILL T MILLER, a chameleon of sonic exploration, is a multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, recording engineer, producer, filmmaker, photographer, artist, instrument builder and cat lover. From toy piano at two years old to starting a "band" with tennis racket guitar and trash can drums in the 60s to becoming a professional recording engineer / producer / live sound tech after graduating from College for the Recording Arts in San Francisco in 1976, his paths are always unfolding and looping. At recording college he took synthesizer courses with ARP 2600 and Emu synths and then worked (as live sound and recording engineer) in California until 1980.

Eventually ending up in Boston working as a freelance recording engineer and live sound engineer and then starting his own Headroom Recording Studios. While much of his "professional career" was devoted to recording and photographing OTHER artists, he was always working on his own weirdo music bands in the shadows. Some of these adventures include Out of Band Experience (OBE), Kings Of Feedback, Drum Army, Kings Of Slack, Zonkulator, and Orgy Of Noise with over 25 full album releases on his own DIY labels as an artist.

BTM's quest has looped back around to a nostalgic look forward incorporating ALL of the past adventures while moving sideways in time in to an unknown future think void. Living in Boston for 37 years and giving every moment to this insatiable desire to CREATE and SHARE is focus of his true path.

How to turn crickets into percussion eurorack Make Noise Morphagene

video upload by EthanJamesMusic

"This is a live electronic music performance inspired by some of the sound design experiments from a film I'm currently working on. This is an entirely live and unrehearsed improvised performance, and I included annotations to show some of what I'm thinking about and also to demonstrate the different musical possibilities that can happen from an outside sound source. Since I'm a film composer by trade, this came out relatively cinematic and would work in certain movie score settings. This is a very simple setup to make a big sound. I hope this is educational for you as well, in terms of how I put these performances together. Hopefully this camera angle also helps you learn something!"
