Comparing the MIDIKalimba Prototype to the Production Model

video upload by Musical Miscellany

"You might have seen my previous video where I reviewed the MIDIKalimba prototype from Peacock Media. Now, the production model is shipping and @midi_in sent me one to check out. I like the new interface and firmware a lot. The new tine layout is really intuitive as well.

See the first video here: [posted here]

Collaborating with the Pet Rock over a Weekend (temporal synthesis experiment)

video upload by Musical Miscellany

Follow-up to this post.

"I thought this might be a fun experiment. I made this simple patch and allowed the Pet Rock to determine the rhythms over a 4-day period. Each day I made small changes to modulation, bpm, scale, etc, but the patch is relatively static. It sounds quite different from day to day.

You can learn more about the Pet Rock here: https://petrock.site"

This Digital Kalimba Prototype is AWESOME!!!

video upload by Musical Miscellany

"My YouTube friend Shiela from @midi_in sent me this digital kalimba prototype for feedback. This is an early prototype. She's already made changes to the design, but it shows a lot of potential. I really like the idea of a MIDI controller that conforms to scales/modes and the interface is very intuitive.

Overlooked Module #14: Synthrotek CF Crossfader

video upload by Musical Miscellany

"It's been a while since I've posted an Overlooked Modules episode. Today, I'm taking a closer look at the Synthrotek CF (Crossfader). This completely passive 2hp module is one every wiggler should own. It's not only handy to fill small gaps in your system, but it's genuinely useful in your patches. And since it's passive, you don't even need rackspace to use it.

What is the Pet Rock? (Eurorack temporal rhythm generator module)

video upload by Musical Miscellany

"I recently purchased a Pet Rock. Not the traditional pet rock from the 1970s, but a Eurorack module that creates rhythms based on the phases of the moon. It's a really cool concept created by Jonah Senzel and released at Knobcon 2023.

Intro & Theory - 0:00
Logistics - 1:47
Basic Rhythms & Clock Variances - 2:55
Adding Pitch Sequences - 5:25
Adding Delay - 5:57

You can purchase one here: https://synthcube.com/cart/petrock"

Pet Rock made its first appearance on the site here.

"Pet Rock is a rogue-like rhythm generator which changes daily, with monthly modulations in style.

This 4hp Eurorack module generates a new rhythm every night at midnight that you have 24 hours to use. Pet Rock is like rhythm Wordle - everyone who owns the module gets the exact same rhythm. No internet connected needed.

Pet Rock has 2 independently clockable (gate in, gate out) 'A' and 'B' rhythms each day, so there's flexibility in how you use it/clock it. The ‘A’ and ‘B’ rhythms can be used together as one composite rhythm, split into two separate rhythms, etc.

Rhythm generation parameters change according to the real current moon phase. The overall "Mood" changes with every 30 day moon cycle to help keep things fresh. With each “Mood” change, Pet Rock switches between several custom algorithms to produce distinct styles.

IMPORTANT FINE PRINT:

Pre-orders are non-cancellable; please do not pre-order unless you are certain you want one.

synthCube is supporting Jonah’s manifesto and principle about the economics of the module as a ‘break-even’ proposition."

Introducing Pet Rock (the rogue-like moon based Eurorack Module)

video upload by Jonah Senzel

"more info at my website: petrock.site

(oops moon cycles are 29.5 days, not 31 I tried editing it into the voice over and it sounded really weird so here's your only chance to learn this vital information)"

What Do Weeds Sound Like? | Bioelectric Skiff Project

video upload by Musical Miscellany

"At this time of year in Texas, the grass is still dormant but the weeds are not. I thought it might be kind of fun to see if the weeds had anything to "say". This lightweight battery-operated Eurorack skiff was handy to accomplish the task. I even threw in a kalimba for good measure."

HAPPY LEAP DAY! I've been going down a bit of a Stylophone rabbit hole lately but I couldn't pass up this vintage treble model. It came with the original box and a lot of memorabilia. This 1970's Stylophone even has the mod which gives it a lower volume setting.

You can find pics of one previously posted here.

"This was a cool pawn shop find. Back in 2008, The Raconteurs sold some limited edition S-1 Stylophones at their live shows. It's essentially a 2007 Stylophone Reissue with a special black & copper finish. The original would've included some tour memorabilia but this one didn't have it.
