video upload by Bernd Kistenmacher

Bernd Kistenmacher SUPERBOOTH posts

"Every journey comes to an end. This is the fourth and last episode of MY SUPERBOOTH 2021 DIARY, which I have produced for FREAK-OUT-YOUR-SYNTH. To be here was really amazing. Again. I spoke with so many friends from the scene and especially the "business-guys" gave me their time and explained their latest hot stuff. To all of them a big THANK YOU. Also to Andreas Schneider and his Superbooth-Team. You all helped to make this vlog a little bit bigger and myself to get a little bit more experienced. Now it time to return to my studio and to produce the next episode of FREAK-OUT-YOUR-SYNTH. I will be back very soon. Promised.

Love and Peace

Nonlinear Labs C15 - Studio Package Update - USB-MIDI and Internal Digital Recording

video by Nonlinear Labs

"The Nonlinear Labs C15 gets a major update that includes USB MIDI connectivity and an internal digital audio recorder.

The current implementation of a MIDI interface is now widening up the spectrum of applications for the C15 - especially in the studio environment. For connecting the C15 directly to a computer we are offering a new small hardware device called the MIDI Bridge.

The second feature included in this software release is an internal digital recorder. It automatically stores the audio output signal of the last hours in the C15.

MIDI features at a glance:

➤ Transmits and receives notes, positions of the Hardware Controls, Program Changes
➤ Up to 90 parameters can be modulated via the Macro Controls
➤ 14-bit resolution (16384 steps) for Note Velocities and for Controls available
➤ Separate MIDI Channels for Split zones and Parts of the synth engine available
➤ Local On/Off

Internal Digital Recording - features at a glance:

➤ Loss-free digital recording of the stereo output signal
➤ FLAC-compressed storage of the last hours (at least 80 min) of playing
➤ Auto-start when the C15 is booted (optional)
➤ Visualization in the browser and play-back controls
➤ Download of the selected segment as FLAC or WAV file
➤ The sound parameters at any point of the time line can be restored
➤ Complete information about the presets used in the session

All parts arranged and played by Tim Sund. Thank you, Tim!

http://www.timsund.com/

The music is an arrangement of Herbie Hancock's "Hidden Shadows".
The original song was released on his album "Sextant" (Columbia Records, 1973).

All audio material generated with the C15.

Nonlinear Labs C15 - Major Software Update Released

Nonlinear Labs C15 - New Features - Update 2020

via Nonlinear Labs

"The C15 received the most significant software update since its release.

It's an update of the operating system, the synth engine and the user interface. It includes layer, split and mono modes, more voices, and more macro controls and modulation targets.

Get an impression of the new features in this video.

Get a detailed list of all the improvements here.

This update continues the constant evolution of the C15 since its launch three years ago. It expands its range and quality of sounds and improves his playability and suitability for musical performance. The update is accompanied by around 200 new presets making use of the new features.

The new software is a complete rewrite. Based on the new architecture, future developments will be easier and will also benefit from new opportunities. The synth engine and the user interface now both run on Linux.

The update is free for all C15 users, who will also benefit from the interchangeable magnetic foils, as the new version comes with updated overlays reflecting the new features.

As of now all new instruments will be shipped with the new system and we will contact all users in the coming weeks to perform the update with them. Early models of the C15 will be brought to Berlin to update the hardware in order to install the new software."

Nonlinear Labs C15 Synthesizer Sounds

Perfect Circuit

"The Nonlinear Labs C15 is a synthesizer unlike any other—with an unconventional sound engine based largely on feedback and a complete lack of MIDI support, it is a bold entry into the synth world. Read our article about it here: https://www.perfectcircuit.com/signal...

Designed by former Native Instruments president Stephan Schmitt, the C15 is a synth designed to be played. By pairing techniques from classic FM and subtractive synthesis with physical modeling and a strong dose of feedback, it can create everything from broad, otherworldly soundscapes to uncannily realistic strings and percussion. It features a highly responsive keyboard with velocity and aftertouch, two full-length ribbon controllers, and a bender as its primary performance controls, completely eschewing MIDI or conventional internal modulation sources—so playing the C15 really is a matter of getting your hands on it and taking tactile control of your sounds.

The C15 is great for cinematic pads, classic FM sounds, electric pianos, strings, lush '80s synth pads, glassy percussion, and much more. It's big, it's heavy, and it has a sound all its own—there's nothing else quite like it altogether.

Podcast 330: Stephan Schmitt

20Objects

"Talk about a career! Stephan Schmitt started his journey into audio development by making noisy object as a kid, then got into electrical engineering to work on large format consoles (which is where he took on software...), then co-founded Native Instruments, creating Generator/Reaktor. After years with NI (including the development of Spark, Skanner and Kontour), he set off to work on his ultimate project: a keyboard player's dream synth, called the Nonlinear Labs C15.

In our chat, we talk about his history through the creation of NI, how he finds the synth voicings that are his signature development, and how the C15 fits into the world of modern music playing and production. Along the way, we also learn a lot about the things that (according to Stephan) make a synth 'expressive', and how this can benefit the live synth player.

Super fascinating, and a chance to learn the history behind the earliest days of virtual synth development, and the on-going work creating a niche hardware device. Check out Nonlinear Labs at https://www.nonlinear-labs.de/index.html."

The Future of Synthesis - Physical Modeling and Expressive Musical Instruments | NAMM 2020

Published on Feb 7, 2020 Under the Big Tree

"This panel on physical modeling at NAMM was a fascinating talk, with luminaries from the industry: Jordan Rudess, Roger Linn, and Dr. Julius Schwartz from CCRMA, among others.

Each of the five panelists delivers a presentation on their approach to physical modeling, expressive musical instruments, or the intersection of the two. Hilarious hijinks ensue.

Superbooth 2019 - Nonlinear Labs C15 Sounds Only

Published on May 14, 2019 sonicstate

"Jim spent some time with the Nonlinear labs C15 - an extremely playable instrument with Reaktor technology at its core. The C15 is the creation of Stephan Schmitt - one the founders of Native Instruments

Jim Says:
'I sat down with the C15 not knowing what really to expect and what I found was an instrument that begged to played. Expressive in ways that only FM can be with a couple of assignable ribbon controllers that span the width of the instrument, and with a button for every parameter, the C15 is truly inspiring to play. I didn’t want to stop. Mostly cinematic and pad type sounds featured here though there are many keyboard, string and brass-type presets as well.'"

Nonlinear Labs C15 Synthesizer At NAMM 2019

Published on Jan 30, 2019 Synthtopia

"At the 2019 NAMM Show, Nonlinear Labs made the NAMM debut of their C15 synthesizer.

The C15 is unusual in that it's a keyboard that's designed to be closer to traditional instruments than traditional synthesizers. As a result, it doesn't have internal sequencing, ARP, LFO's or even MIDI - it's designed for you to play it expressively, not machines.

In the first section of the video, founder Stephan Schmitt gives an introduction to the philosophy behind the C15. Starting around 8:30, Schmitt demonstrates the C15 and explains how the keyboard's expressive capabilities dynamically control its synthesis engine."

Nonlinear Labs C15 - "Pad" & "Good Trump"

Published on Dec 20, 2018 peter m mahr

Not that Trump.

"Two more C15 sound examples. You will only hear the Nonlinear Labs C15 (Reverb!).
Sound #1 "Pad" - It starts with a simple pad sound that develops to a kind of SQR pad, then almost sounds like strings, but can also sound biting.
Sound #2 'Good Trump' - A brass like sound, somewhere between trombone and trumpet."
