Sound Of: Simmons SDS-V Analog Drum Machine ( Bass / Snare and Tom Tom Modules Only )

Sound Provider

"It's been a long time since I've made a video of a drum machine.
Let's fix that by continuing to explore the material we use in Sound Provider Studio for production or for Sound-Banks by listening to the venerable SDSV Drum Modules built in the early 80's in the UK by Simmons.
For this demo I use Mutable instruments Modules from my Eurorack system to trig the Drum, "Grids" for Kick/Snare and "Grids" with "Branches" for the Toms . Also even if I use few EQ and Few dynamic processor I try to keep the sound quite raw and I didn 't add any other effects like reverb, delay or modulation.
Unfortunatly I didn 't have the Cymbal and HiHat modules ,the drummers used most often their real cymbal and hihat with the modules at the time, so they are rather rare and expensive. It makes the demo with all the modules a little rough without them.
I use a lot my SDS-V for Sound Provider soundbanks expecially for the "Analog Kick, Snare and Tom Now" ( https://www.sound-provider.eu/ )

0:02 Bass Module (Kick)
1:31 Snare Module
2:50 Tom Module x 1
4:08 Tom Modules x3
6:05 All Modules
8:00 All Modules but more Techno (without all the Effects and heavy Processing)

Note about my version: It have mod someone did for me , it's a module in the front where I can switch directly the patch from my Modular , the Knob can adjust the amount of velocity and the button can trig the sound without any external gear (very useful if you want to trigger and adjust the sound)

Arturia PolyBrute Analog Synth "Random Patch Genaration" Walkthrough.

Sound Provider

"Here is a feat I love on synthesizer , when you're lacking inspiration or looking for a fresh idea, it's always cool to have a random patch generation function on a synth.
So the Arturia PolyBrute can do this , and after someone ask me about that on a forum ( Gearslutz I think ) I did this video to show what you can expect with it.
What you see on the video:Me generating Random patches and playing with and turning the morph button to explore the preset. I've edited a little to remove the least interesting parts.
Few thoughts about the function, most of the time we generate pads, some lead and bass and very little percussive sound, it is often necessary to retune some osc for the morphing to be tuned, but sometimes the intermediate positions of the morphing create magical moments.

Random Patch Generation on the Manual:
"6.3. Random patch generation
PolyBrute can generate a random patch for you by choosing sounds A and B from different patches, changing the morph knob value, moving the result to sound A, and then repeating most of that process a random number of times. The generated patch can then be tweaked, saved as a Snapshot, or saved as a new preset.
This feature is found at Settings/Preset Info/Generate. Press [Assign 3] to generate the random patch."

Testing Arturia PolyBrute for Trancy Techno Track.

Sound Provider

"Small demo of the Arturia Polybrute Polyphonic Analog Synth on a Basic Techno /Trance-y Track here.
Originally I did this to test the presets I created for Arturia, to check if they could be used as they are, we all already found some amazing presets impossible to place in a song.
For this exercise I mixed this song differently than a "normal" song:
Even if I used some EQs and compressors, I used them a lot more lightly to avoid denaturing too much the sound of the PolyBrute, I didn't use any effects other than those of the Synthesizer (reverb/delay and modulation), I also played everything by hand in one shot without doing any edits.
The result is a bit rough but I think it's ok to give an idea .
For the sounds of this demo come from the Synthetiser except the Kick which comes from the Sound Bank I made for Sound Provider: "Techno kick now" ( Sp Techno Kick 130Bpm 01 ) and 2 loops of HiHat which comes at 0:36,1:20 and 2:35 which come from "Techno hi-hat now". (Sp Techno HH 130 Bpm Full 03 / Sp Techno HH 130 Bpm Off Beat 05 )
You can always go on the site ( https://www.sound-provider.eu/ )to listen to their demos and why not buy them for your tracks (and also support us ❤😉)
All the other sounds come from the PolyBrute:
Bass, Pad, Horn, Arp, Bouncing Lead, Wobble bass, First HH/percu, Noise Fx.

Arturia KeyStep 37 Chords with Scale Quantizer Demo (Feat Novation Peak Synth & Boss DD-8 Delay)

Sound Provider

Update: moved this post up as I had a typo in the video ID. It should play now.

"After my video about the "One finger Chord" with Arturia KeyStep 37 controller & Sequencer Keyboard ( below ) some people asked me how the keyboard manages chords with the scale quantizer , because doing maj 7 (for exemple) on every key is cool (and lot of good house or rave tracks we were made that way) but most of the time it's better to have chords that fit with the scale you use.
So I did this quick exemple , hope it can help some of you.
Little reminder, on Chord mode you can choose 12 differents chords type and on the Scale Quantizer you can choose between Chromatic /Major/Minor/Blues and User Scale.
For this video I also use the Novation Peak Synth and the Boss DD-8 delay.

Voila.

Sound of: Arturia PolyBrute FX ON / FX BYPASS

Sound Provider

"After my Video about my presets for the Arturia PolyBrute Polyphonic Synthesizer ( [posted here] ) Some people have asked to listen to demos without the 3 digital effects (which are good) to be able to hear the Analog Sound of the synth only to get a better idea of its power.
Here it is!
In this video I load patches randomly, I start to play, I modulate the Morph parameter then I bypass the digital effects to make you listen to the pure analog sound of the preset.
We can realize that PolyBrute sound is super alive even without effect (at least I think so).

Processing Dub Techno Stabs (Ft Yamaha E1010 Delay, Master Room Spring Reverb & Mu-Tron Bi-Phase)

Sound Provider

"After my video about the Sound of the Musitronics MuTron BiPhase Phaser ( [posted here] ) someone ask me a demo with Techno Dub or Reggae Dub Chord Stab so I did this video quickly .

For this one I use the Novation Peak Synthesizer to do the stabs, Switch off the effects of the Synth, then I send the sound directly to my Yamaha E1010 BBD Analog delay then I send the signal to one channel of my MicMix Master Room XL-210 Spring Reverb , finally I send the signal to the Mu-Tron Bi-Phase.

Sound of: Mu-Tron Bi-Phase (Feat Novation Peak Synth & Yocto Drum Machine)

Sound Provider

"I ve done this video for people like me who love to see gear in action, so be careful, this video may be a little too long for some of you. :)

I did few quick loops here then I turn the knobs testing different settings with the glorious and vintage Musitronics Mutron Biphase Double Phaser pedal effect (Or Phasor, If you know the difference between Phaser and Phasor please tell me )

To help me with this mission, I used the Novation Peak synthesizer and the Yocto drum machine (A DIY Clone of the Roland Tr-808 from E-licktronic I build myself not without difficulty) .

The video Start with a 'Clavinet' Sound Done with the Peak, at 2.30 you have kind of Guitar arp, at 5.30 a bass Lead at 9.30 some Pad Chord, at 13minutes you can listen to the effect with a Bass then around 16 the video ends with the DrumMachine.

WEM Watkins Copicat TapeEcho (Ft Novation Peak / Tanzbar / Arturia DrumBrute Impact with Solo Part)

Sound Provider

"On this video I did a Sound Demo of the lovely and vintage WEM Solid State Watkins Copicat Tape Echo with a kind of Techno Dub Loop .

To go with the delay I used 1 synth and 2 Drum machines:

The Novation Peak Polyphonic Hybrid Synthesizer (Half analog Half Digital) is used for the Stab chord part.

I used the MFB Tanbar analog Drum Machine for the Snare.

And finally I took the Arturia DrumBrute Impact to do the Kind of Tom Bass with its analog Fm Drum part.

At the beginning you can listen to the Full "track" , then at 3 Minutes you can listen to the Peak Chord in solo with the delay , Around 6 minutes you can listen to the snare in solo, then at 9 it s the DrumBrute Impact Fm Drum turn.

Other stuff you have to know about this video:

I switch off the Novation Peak Delay for this demo, the Watkins Copicat warm delay is the only delay used on this video.

At some point I did feedback loop with the Delay (with the aux of my Allen & Heath GS 3000 Recording Console you can see on the video).

I did a quick mix and master with compressor limiter and eq on Cubase

voila."

Combo I Like: 4Ms PEG Feat Roland System-500 505 Filter Eurorack module (For "DubStep" Wobble Bass)

Sound Provider

"Yes,another "Combo I like" with the Pingable Envelope Generator from 4ms, Didn t I tell you that it s one of my favorite modular Synth LFO?

For the wobble Bass and to do Dubstep Bass line with My Modular Synthesizer 99% of the time I use the PEG because with the different Speed and Shape it s really easy to do this very useful sync Lfo.

For filter I don 't always use the same , but one filter I particularly like is the Roland Sys 505, it s a reproduction of the Analog SH-5 Synthesizer Filter with lot of character, and because it s a double filter I can use 1 different Lfo of each Filter cutoff.

What you don 't see on the video:

The oscillator are a Square and a Sawtooth from my Roland 510 Eurorack module.

Not use I m using it here but in this kind of patch I used to plug my Tiptop Audio Circadian Rhythms in the Peg Reset to Re-Synchronize the Start of the 2 Peg Lfo when I need it.

Also I don 't use any vca here.

Acidlab M303 Feat 4ms Pingable Envelope Generator (for Eurorack Synth Acid Modulation)

Sound Provider

"One Eurorack combo I use all the time on Live or Studio for Acid tracks since many years is the combination of the Acidlab M303, a clone of the iconic Roland Tb303 with a Sync LFO from my fav Modular Synth Envelope Generator, the 4ms PEG, It add so much musicality , very simple but very effective .
On the video I record the acid part of my future track with Mectoob "Les Pigeons" (https://www.instagram.com/gael_mectoob ) I use the 4ms to module the cutoff of the filter.(this is a Raw Version I think I ll edit a lot before final Version)
What you don t see on the video: I use random "-1oct down" and random "Slide" with the Hermod from Squarp instruments, I also Use the Strakal Brulu from Touellskouarn to overdrive the Acid Sequence.I also did a little mix."

Vermona DRM1 MKIII HiHat Feat Mu-Tron Bi-Phase and More

Sound Provider

"Nothing very spectacular here ,but I didn t see so much video with Drum Machine and the MuTron Biphase so I decided to shoot the recording of one relatively simple and little dirty HiHat pattern I did for a future Sound Provider Soundbank. On this pattern I use the Ibanez TK999 Tube King Distortion, then the Boss DD8 Delay in Standard mode , On the console I send the signal to the Mutron Phaser, I keep around 40% of the dry signal in the middle and send the Phasor A to the left and the B to the right, I really like the modulation the phasor add to the signal.
If I have time I will try to shoot more stuff through the Bi-Phase.

4 Minutes Demo of the Arturia Matrixbrute Custom Waveform Lfo.

Sound Provider

"One function I like on my lovely Matrixbrute Synth is the ability to draw your own LFO.

I didnt t find a good demo about it, so I decided to make a quick one.

This ability to draw your own waveform appeared with the 2nd firmware, it can be super powerful and be used on very complex patch, it can be also pretty useful for techno or Dubstep for wobble bass modulation but not only.
For this Demo I used a very simple bass patch with only 4 looped notes to focus on the modulation. The lfo here is modulates only one of the two synthesizer filters (The Vcf1 Steiner, the VCF2 Ladder is bypassed here)
The blue or Red color a the the bottom of the matrix show if the step is smooth or snappy.
For people how are interested the Kick is "Sp Techno Kick and Rumble 130Bpm 26" From Sound Provider :"Techno Kick Now" Sound-bank and the HiHat is "Sp Techno HH 125 Bpm Off Beat 02" (time stretch to 130Bpm) from Sound Provider "Techno Hi Hat Now" https://www.sound-provider.eu/"

Vermona Drm1MkIII With Novation Launchpad Pro Mk3

Published on Jun 1, 2020 Sound Provider

"I share this video because I was looking for a Hardware and Dawless sequencer with a good workflow for my lovely Vermona Drm1 MkIII Drum Machine since long time and I m pretty happy with the Novation Launchpad Pro Mk3 sequencer, so I wanted to show you my pratice .

Warning,The sound is pretty raw because the analog DrumMachine is in solo here but it's a good opportunity to make a demo of the Vermona too :) .

For info the Drum is already half mixed here (lot of SSL Eq and compressor) and the main effect on the Drum 1/2, Multi and HiHat 2 of the Vermona is my Roland Space echo tape delay.

Still interested to test other sequencer for the Vermona, so feel free to tell me what is your favorite

"Good night" Patch Feat Moog Subharmonicon, Eurorack modulation and Eventide h9 reverb

Published on May 28, 2020 Sound Provider

"Tonight I wanted to do a small ambient patch to test the Moog Subharmonicon synthesizer with modulation from some of my Eurorack module with a reverb from my Eventide h9 .

The Eurorack module I use are :
Tiptop Audio Circadian Rhythms and Z8000 Matrix Sequencer
VC Sequencer from RYO
and Quad Clock Distributor From 4ms
The clock come from the Moog and the Modular synth modulate some osc and some sub(that why sometimes it s little wrong, pretty hard to quantize everything sorry),they also modulate the timing of the modulation.

Arturia MicroFreak Synth Feat Eventide H9 (Space Blackhole algo) for cinematic pads.

Published on May 26, 2020 Sound Provider

"For instant cinematic pads I like to use the great reverb (delay works very well too) of my Eventide H9 Harmonizer effects processor, it s make everything sound so spatial. For this quick exemple I use the Hybrid synthesizer from Arturia (Digital Oscillator with analog Filter) , the Microfreak who are very good for atmospheric pad, string, and evolving presets (Thanks to its paraphonic mode and all his modulation option).
The iPad on the video is the wireless Remote of the H9 (offscreen ).

Techno Jam with Moog Subharmonicon

Published on May 22, 2020 Sound Provider

"On this video, I did a kind of Hypnotic techno Jam with the Moog Subharmonicon Synth.

For this one I play a lot with the Seq1 to do and improvise different rhythm.

I think I m happy enought with the synth sound to release a tarck with it later when I 'll have time to record other layers and make a better arrangement.

For this demo I use only sound from my Sound Provider Sample pack ( www.sound-provider.eu )
