YAMAHA EX-1 Synthesizer/Organ

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Note the EX-1 is not the pre-cursor to the GX-1. That would be the "EX-42 (1970–1977, stage model, design origin of GX-1)" according to the list of Yamaha products on Wikipedia.

"This Yamaha EX-1 organ/synthesizer is one of the rarest synthesizers in existence, as it is rumored that less than a dozen or so were ever built.

The EX-1 is easily programmed for three overall patches using a slide-out front panel, and has polyphonic glide and, on the solo keyboard, a unique side-to-side movement for modulation.

The EX-1 features two fully polyphonic keyboards (with organ tabs and polyphonic analog synthesizer sounds) which can be slaved together, a top keyboard monophonic analog synthesizer which can be slaved to the upper organ manual, and a monophonic analog synthesizer bass played from the included pedals, or slaved to the lower keyboard.

Also included is an analog drum machine, auto chord accompaniment section, and arpeggiator.

This YAMAHA EX-1 unit is in great condition.

Manufacturing date maybe 1977-1978.

All the knobs, sliders, keys and pedals work perfectly.

Also included are two TX-III tone cabinets with 14x speakers (each), bass pedals and a original matching bench.

The features of this synthesizer are much too extensive to list here.

There are a few videos on YouTube that fully detail all of the capabilities of the EX-1 Just search for "Yamaha EX-1" and prepare to be amazed.

When released in 1977, the EX-1 had a $35,000 price tag.

That's $148,000 today when adjusted for inflation.

Don't miss your chance to get it for much less!"

YAMAHA FX-1 VINTAGE SYNTHESIZER ORGAN

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Note the EX-1 is not the pre-cursor to the GX-1. That would be the "EX-42 (1970–1977, stage model, design origin of GX-1)" according to the list of Yamaha products on Wikipedia.

"For your consideration is a Yamaha FX-1. This polyphonic FM synthesizer is one of the rarest, most complex, and most expensive synthesizers ever built. Yamaha's flagship FM synthesizer/organ son of the analog GX-1/EX-1 couple, and father to the DX-1, this beautiful instrument packs all the sonic possibilities of a standard organ and polyphonic synthesizer into one gigantic and unique package. If you think that the DX-1 is incredible, which it is, this is even better. The FX-1 is to the DX-1 what the GX-1 is to the CS-80. When released in 1983-4, the FX-1 had a $43,600 price tag (compared to the DX-1, which was released in 1984 with a $10,900 price tag). That's $102,000 today when adjusted for inflation. It is the second most expensive synth that Yamaha ever made. It is rumored that less than 100 were built. Don't miss your chance to get this extremely rare and incredible-sounding synthesizer for much, much less!

This auction includes the synthesizer, bass pedals, bench, and the two extremely rare and gorgeous-sounding (2) Yamaha TM-1 tone cabinets that originally came with this unit. The features of this synthesizer are much too extensive to list here...

This is a very large instrument - 45" high x 60" wide x 32" deep and nearly 500 lbs! - and can only be shipped via freight. The $590 shipping cost is just an estimate..."

Yamaha Electone EX-42 Vintage Analog Synthesizer Organ Keyboard

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Update: See the comments of this post for more info on the EX-42.  It's not a GX-1.

However: according to the list of Yamaha products on Wikipedia: "EX-42 (1970–1977, stage model, design origin of GX-1)"

"Yamaha Electone EX-42 Vintage Analog Synthesizer Organ Keyboard

with two (2) original Yamaha R-60B rotating tone cabinets (KILLS LESLIES!)

For your consideration is a Yamaha EX-42. This polyphonic analog synthesizer is one of the rarest, most complex, and most expensive synthesizers ever built. Yamaha's flagship synthesizer/organ precursor to the ultra rare Yamaha GX-1, this beautiful instrument packs all the sonic possibilities of a standard organ and polyphonic synthesizer into one gigantic and unique package. When released in 1970, the EX-42 had a $32,000 price tag. That's $182,000 today when adjusted for inflation, making it the second most expensive synth (in today's dollars) that Yamaha ever made. It is rumored that less than 200 were built. Don't miss your chance to get this extremely rare and incredible-sounding synthesizer for much, much less!

Even better, this listing includes the two extremely rare (2) Yamaha R-60B tone cabinets that originally came with this unit. You can see one Yamaha R-60B on the right side of the second picture and two in the third picture. The Yamaha R-60B kills any Leslie! It has three (3) vertically rotating speakers that are switchable on/off at the players option. The soundfields that this 200W tone cabinet creates are absolutely unreal.

This synth is in great condition. All the knobs and sliders that we have tested work perfectly, though we have not tested all of the functions on this synthesizer. Thus, it is sold as-is.

This auction also includes the synthesizer and bass pedals, but the matching bench is not included, as the owner prior to the previous owner wanted to keep it.

The features of this synthesizer are much too extensive to list here. There are a few videos on YouTube that fully detail all of the capabilities of the EX-42. Just search for "Yamaha EX-42" and prepare to be amazed. Make sure to look for the R-60B in action too!

This is a very large instrument - 45" high x 60" wide x 32" deep and nearly 500 lbs! - and can only be shipped via freight. The $590 shipping cost is just an estimate. Within the Continental U.S., transportation costs (freight or mover) will vary depending on proximity to Los Angeles, and typically takes more than one week to schedule and deliver. International shipments will be considerably more expensive and will take around two weeks to schedule and deliver..."

YAMAHA EX1 FOR SALE POLYSYNTH ELP VIDEO

YouTube Published on Jun 14, 2012 by MarkJenkinsMusic

Update: according to Wikipedia the EX-42 was the stage model of the GX1, not the EX1.

Update: for those pressed on time, don't miss the slide out programmer at 20:14, the inside with the front panel removed/hinged up at 22:22, and the horizontal vibrato at 13:00 for the small keyboard. 13:47 reminded me of Beastie Boys Intergalactic.

"YAMAHA EX1 POLYPHONIC SYNTHESIZER FOR SALE.

My Yamaha EX1 is now for sale. In extremely good playing order, it's located in central UK. Buyer will collect and will need a large van ideally with tail lift.

The Yamaha EX1 is the theatre version of the GX1 as played by Keith Emerson (with Emerson Lake & Palmer on 'Fanfare for the Common Man'), by Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, Abba, Ekseption and more recently by Hans Zimmer. It's thought that maybe a dozen GX1's and 40 EX1's were manufactured.

While the GX1 was fully programmable (with difficulty) and featured a pitch bend strip, the EX1 is easily programmed for three overall patches using a slide-out front panel, and has polyphonic glide and, on the solo keyboard, a unique side-to-side movement for modulation.

The EX1 features two fully polyphonic keyboards (with organ tabs and polyphonic analog synthesizer sounds) which can be slaved together, a top keyboard monophonic analog synthesizer which can be slaved to the upper organ manual, and a monophonic analog synthesizer bass played from the included pedals, or slaved to the lower keyboard. Also included is an analog drum machine, auto chord accompaniment section, and arpeggiator.

Included with this EX1 is the original double width pearl white matching bench, and the user manual. I never took delivery of the matching speakers which are enormous - there are various audio outputs to use Leslie-type rotary speakers, or such effects can simply be added by digital fx units.

Playing condition is exactly as shown in the video, shot in mid-June 2012, and while there are very very minor questions the instrument is basically in full working order. One or two keys are intermittent on some but not all sounds, but are by no means dead and probably just in need of a clean, a couple of panel light bulbs are dead, and it's possible one of the several modulation shapes on the solo synth is non-functional - but then again, it's possible I may have misunderstood some functions, and it's certain that most controls need to be DOWN rather than UP as you'd expect for full level.

To collect the synth you'll need a large and ideally tail-lift van able to reach central UK. The bass pedals, bench and bench legs are all separately boxed. Please do not ask me about shipping of any kind - it's not possible.

Substantial offers please including details of your arrangements for collection. Obviously no dubious payment methods such as Western Union or PayPal will even be considered.

Yamaha Electone "Synths"

Video of the Yamaha D-80 by Mattias. I always seem to forget that some of the Yamaha Electone home organs had synth sections and with the D-80, an arpeggiator as well.

Frank who is an Electone enthusiast posted the following on AH and gave me the ok to put it up here:

"I've got the 415: image

which is probably the last of their analogue spinet organs.

Very cool machine. The solo synth on mine sounds very SY-1 or SY-2'ish. You can have pitch and/or filter mod with left-to-right wiggling of the solo section keys too. It takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it can be pretty expressive.

The strings, with soft attack and longer release, through the synphonic ensemble (BBD ensemble) or the rotary speaker (!) can be very pleasant.

Jeff Koepper tried mine a couple of weeks ago and got all sorts of cool un-home-organ-like things out of it.

Yamaha made a whole bunch of these kinds of miniature three manual organs with solo synths in them. Earliest is probably the DK-40, then at least there was the D-80, D-85 and 415. The D-85 and 415 seem to be nearly identical, feature wise.

The DK-40 is technologically not too distant from the earliest group of Yamaha analogue organs, and I suspect it shares similar circuitry to the YC series of organs.

Also, the DK-40 has a 'fourth' manual, in the form of a separate 'portamento' synth, which is played from a ribbon controller to the left of the solo synth keys. You can just barely see it in this image the green tabs control the portamento ribbon, which extends right in front of them.

I kid myself that the 415 is sorta like a cut down EX-1. It isn't really, but it's fun to pretend, and I don't anticipate ever owning an EX-1, for a number of reasons! :-)

Frank
Electone enthusiast"

Update via buckystoppz in the comments:
"I also have the 415 and use it to death! People are sleeping on these, I got it for $120 on eBay locally. They were about $8000 new in the early eighties."

【DEMO】YAMAHA Dream Synthesizer

Published on Apr 15, 2014 musictrackjp·238 videos

Yamaha KX49, AN1x, FS1r and Motif XS Rack layered.

"We propose this synthesizer structured by AWM2(Sampling),AN(Virtual Analog) and FM/FS Synthesis System by YAMAHA.

It will be Great, isn't it ?

DEMO by Katsunori UJIIE.
Facebook: Like me please!
https://www.facebook.com/musictrack.jp"

The Yamaha EX5 and EX5r rack came close only missing the Formant component of the FS1R.

"AWM is Yamaha's original system for effectively using sampled waveforms in synthesizers and tone generators. The strength of AWM synthesis lies not only in its extraordinary ability to "shape" and control the sound of the samples with a comprehensive system of envelope generators, filters, key scaling parameters, modulation, and more. AWM voices can have from 1 to 4 AWM elements. Each AWM element can use a preset wave or a sampled waveform. The ability to combine AWM elements means that you can, for example, combine separate samples for the attack and sustain portions of an instrument's sound, with independent control over each.

Yamaha AN Synthesis (Analog Physical Modeling) offers all the benefits of traditional analog synthesis with the stability, reproducability, and precise control of digital technology. It is capable of accurately reproducing the sound of classic analog synthesizers without patch cables, setting charts, or the frustrating instability that was the bane of the analog age. A standard (Poly) AN voice can have 1 AN element and from 1 to 3 AWM elements. Classic analog synth type sounds can be created with the single AN element alone. AWM elements can be added as necessary to "modernize" the sound.

FDSP adds a sophisticated note-dependent effect processor to the basic AWM synthesis system. In contrast to a stand effect stage, the FDSP synthesis stage uses individual note and velocity data to control effect parameters, thus making it possible to simulate the characteristics of a number of real-world musical components, as well as produce totally new effects. FDSP can produce totally new sounds that are responsive and "alive". FDSP voices have from 1 to 4 AWM elements with an FDSP stage between the elements and the main effect stage. The FDSP stage can be applied to any or all of the AWM elements used, as required.

Yamaha's Virtual Acoustic ("VL") Synthesis tone generation system applies sophisticated computer based "physical modeling" technology to musical sound synthesis, accurately simulating the very complex vibrations, resonances, reflections and other acoustic phenomena that occur in a real wind or string instrument. VL voices can have 1 VL element and from 1 to 3 AWM elements. The VL element can be used alone to emphasize the full realism and expressive power of the VL tone generator, or with added AWM elements for thicker textures.

The EX5 allows the AN and FDSP tone generator systems to be combined in "AN + FDSP" voices which can have 1 AN element and from 1 to 3 FDSP elements. The FDSP stage can be applied to any or all of the AWM elements used, as required."

The EX5 also features sophisticated sampling capability. Samples can be used in AWM voice elements or mapped to and played via individual keys of the keyboard using the Key Map mode. It is also possible to sample internal sounds created in the EX5. The Sample mode has all the features you'd expect from a professional sampler and is compatible with WAV, AIFF and AKAI formats. Sampled waveforms can be saved to floppy disk or to an external storage device via the optional ASIB1 SCSI Interface.

The features don't stop there. Six Controller Knobs can be assigned to a wide range of parameters for extraordinary real-time control capability along with the Pitch wheel, two Mod wheels, assignable Ribbon Controller and Scene memory buttons. Two types of full featured built-in Sequencers are on-board. A 16-Track Song Sequencer has real-time play effects and "groove" quantization. An 8-Track Pattern Sequencer has most of the functions and features of the 16-track song sequencer, but is more suited to the production of drum tracks, dance grooves, or other frequently used phrases. There's also a great 4-track Arpeggiator with 50 preset and user patterns.

Top-quality digital effects processors of two types are onboard. The "System" effects includes two separate effect units: Reverb and Chorus. Independent reverb and chorus settings can be made for each voice in the Voice mode, and for each performance setup in the Performance mode. Two "Insertion" effects provide up to 79 additional effects like chorus, distortion and overdrive, amp simulation, auto wah, equalization, delay, reverb, and other effects.

Use the 16-part Performance mode to create elaborate sequences, layer sounds and so on. Different parts can be assigned to different areas of the keyboard, there are up to 16 zones. The EX Key Map mode allows you to assign individual samples, patterns, or pattern tracks to different keys of the keyboard. These can then be played or triggered from the keyboard or an external sequencer or other MIDI controller. Every knob and controller on the keyboard sends and receives MIDI data in real-time."

Yamaha DX7II FD TX802 SYNTHESIZER

via this auction

note the pull out. I know the TX81Z has one as well. I'm curious how many other Yamaha racks had them.

Details:
"The TX-802 is the rack mount version of the DX-7II with a few added touches. It is an FM synth, so it excellent at re-creating Hammond organ, electric pianos, brass, analog sounds, and bells. It is in a whole new class for percussive sounds and ethnic sounds as you can change the tuning and get out of the 12 tone box. It is not too good when it comes to, acoustic pianos, and saxophones, but that's why the gods made samplers. A required piece of gear in my opinion since the DX7 is such a legendary synth. There are thousands of patches available online for this synth (can take DX7 and DX7II patches).

1960s Hohner Pianet Demo Record Side 1 of 2

YouTube via jafafah0ts. Obviously not a synth, but I decided to make the exception on this one.
"A vintage demo record for the classic Hohner Pianet electric piano. The demo has German-language narration, I have added the English translated text to the video. Side 1."

Update via in the comments:

"In fact, the clavinet was not invented to become a funky instrument. First it was more a kind of a substitution for a spinett. I have made a video, where you can hear the original sound and also the funky sound with a wahwah.
