Monster Patch Demo: KARP

"This was the first patch demonstrated during the 'Patching the Monster' live webcast [below] with Chris Meyer of LearningModular.com, Ben 'DivKid' Wilson, and Kim 'Bjooks' Bjørn.

The arpeggiator in a Korg taktile 49 keyboard controller is driving a Mutable Instruments Rings, 2hp Pluck, and an analog synth voice consisting of a Birdkids TheBateleur, Livewire AFG, Rossum Evolution, and Erogenous Tones VC8, modulated by an Ian Fritz Hypster, Befaco VC ADSR, and Erogenous Tones RADAR. Voltage-controlled panning is from a Happy Nerding PanMix; reverb is from a Happy Nerding FX Aid.

"This clip from Darkroom (https://darkroomtheband.bandcamp.com) demos a variety of Expert Sleepers modules. The whole thing is driven from an FH-2, clocked by the laptop (running Live). The FH-2 is generating Euclidean patterns, LFOs, and running an arpeggiator for one of the synth voices.

The General CV in Chord mode is generating some of the chordal sounds.

Two disting mk4s are being used as crossfaders/LFOs. A third is running in AD envelope mode.

A fourth disting mk4 is playing the voice sample you can hear, chopped up & mangled by LFOs and triggers from the FH-2 and Xaoc Batumi.

Other patch notes - the bass line is sequenced from the Xaoc Moskwa, quantised by the uScale. The VCO for this sound is the Birdkids Bateleur. The voice played by the FH-2 arpeggiator is two Doepfer A-110-1 VCOs. The General CV and disting sample playback are being processed by the Xaoc Belgrad, the Pittsburgh Analog Delay, and the Doepfer A-125 phaser."

"The system is built around 𝙿𝚎𝚌𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝙾𝚛𝚍𝚎𝚛 controlling two 𝐑𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐍 voices for a total of four VCOs, three VCFs, three VCAs, five LFOs and five ᵀʰᵉ𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝙴𝚗𝚟𝚎𝚕𝚘𝚙𝚎 𝙶𝚎𝚗𝚎𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚜. 🌃🌊🌌


• Four MIDI LFOs are converted to CV using ᵀʰᵉ𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝙿𝚘𝚠𝚎𝚛 / 𝙼𝙸𝙳𝙸 feeding into the individual 𝙿𝚎𝚌𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝙾𝚛𝚍𝚎𝚛 groups 1-4.

• ᵀʰᵉ𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝚅𝚘𝚕𝚝𝚊𝚐𝚎 𝙲𝚘𝚗𝚝𝚛𝚘𝚕𝚕𝚎𝚍 𝙾𝚜𝚌𝚒𝚕𝚕𝚊𝚝𝚘𝚛 in LFO mode is feeding the Master Group of #PeckingOrder. One of the #RAVEN voices is being fed into the VCF and VCA section of ᵀʰᵉ𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝚅𝙲𝙾.

• All LFO speed parameters are mapped to a simple old-school MIDI controller.

𝐑𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐍 is controlled by two ᵀʰᵉ𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝙿𝚘𝚠𝚎𝚛 / 𝙼𝙸𝙳𝙸 modules.
Ableton LIVE's internal MIDI Envelope is mapped to CC1 = Modulation.
ᵀʰᵉ𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝙿𝚘𝚠𝚎𝚛 / 𝙼𝙸𝙳𝙸 converts the MIDI data to CV (0-5V) which in turn are used as envelopes for #RAVEN (VCF linear and VCA linear).

All software parameters are mapped to a simple old-school MIDI controller.
ᵀʰᵉ𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝚅𝙲𝙵 is used as a modulator in self-resonance (to 𝐑𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐍 fm)
ᵀʰᵉ𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝚅𝙲𝙾 is routed through ᵀʰᵉ𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝙼𝚒𝚡𝚎𝚛 / 𝙽𝚘𝚒𝚜𝚎 and the mix is output to the ᵀʰᵉ𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝚅𝙲𝙰.
