Sequencing the Spectral Multiband Resonator

Published on Oct 4, 2016

There's a detailed video walkthrough of the SMR patches.

"Patch Notes
Acid Patch
I had a standard modular acid patch (Rubi - VCF303 - uVCA) but it lost the A-B comparison to Audiorealism ABL3 (the modular variant sounded equally good but with my CV input on the fritz I wasn't able to modulate the cutoff as wildly). I left the modular patch in the video, however, as videos of the computer screen look less interesting.
So the acid patch is ABL3 basically unprocessed.

SMR 1
Audio Damage Sequencer 1 is hitting the input of the SMR
Rotate controlled by CV3 sequence
There's a div/8 PEG envelope modulating resonance

SMR 2
Variation on the first SMR patch but with 2 gate sequences and a steady clock being applied to the level CV inputs on the SMR

Arpeggios
Rene driving STO, 2 sequences that I'm manually shifting between (the first is 4 bars, the second is 2 bars)
STO Vari Out into Timbre Shape modulated by Wogglebug Smooth CV and linear FM'd by Sputnik VCO 2 (also tracking pitch)
Sequencer 1 slow LFO modulating Timbre
Into the Optomix enveloped by Maths Fall modulated by Wogglebug Stepped Out (Woggle clocked at 16th notes)
Delays in AD Dubstation

West Coast Bass
Sequencer 1 driving pitch, gate, accent
STO receiving pitch deeply linear FM'ing itself from Sub Out (required tuning adjustments) Vari Out into Optomix
Maths channel 1 for main envelope, channel 4 for accent envelope
Sum Out enveloping Optomix

Bloops
Sputnik 1 set to a lower pitch receiving pitch from Seq1
Exp in set to inverted max receiving LFO from Seq1
FM In receiving another LFO from Seq1
Sputnik 2 set to a higher pitch also receiving pitch CV from Seq1
Maths envelope to inverted Exp In
FM In receiving from Sputnik 1
Sine Out into the Optomix being enveloped by Maths Both modulated by Wogglebug Stepped

Drums in iSpark with stems to AD Replicant instances"

Modular Jam 59 'Sex Drive'

Published on Sep 18, 2016 ngarjuna

Borderline NSFW, so all you peeps at work, be warned! Great track though so be sure to check it out later if you can't now.

"Patch Notes:
Drums, bass and modular percussion elements were from an older session (from before I started keeping patch notes unfortunately). Drums were in Patterning processed through Flux and Filtatron and Replicant. The bass patches were all west coast patches made with 258 VCOs, Optomix and Maths. The modular percussion was also made with the same sort of arrangement (probably being modulated by PEG and Wogglebug...sorry it was a while ago)

Acid Patch 1
Standard-ish acid patch:
Seq 1 driving Rubicon sigmoid into VCF-303
303 EGs out (through Maths for mix) to uVCA

Acid Patch 2
There are two variants, Bandpass (A) and Lowpass (3 pole):
Sequencer 1 triggering Maths ch1 and Dual ADSR (Gate) and Minimod EGs (Accent)
Pitch going to Cranial Saw in sawtooth with a tiny bit of sub
Into Polaris modulated by Rubicon sine (via uVCA modulated by PEG OR) at audio rate in FM1, mix of Wogglebug Stepped Out and Maths ch1 envelope (on gate) and an accent envelope from the Minimod (AD)
Wogglebug smooth providing fall modulation to Maths ch1
Dual ADSR ch1 into Minimod VCA (Gate), Minimod EG2 into Minimod VCA (Accent)

Vocals
All made with the TransVocal Discombobulator (my own little monstrosity made from Uhe Diva, Zynaptiq Morph and Cytomic's The Drop)

Modular Jam 57 "Phantoms"

Published on Aug 22, 2016 ngarjuna

"Patch Notes:
Drums
Sequenced in Patterning then each track was overlaid in the video so that you can see them all at once

SMR Drone
Gates from Seq1 hitting the inputs
Custom scale tuned to two chords (more or less)
Seq1 static CV is used to move between the chords with a bit of morph

West Coast Melody
Rene sequence driving
STO SHAPE modulated by Maths ch4 (fall modulated by Woggle STEPPED) into
Optomix with trig to STRIKE and Maths ch1 enveloping

West Coast Harmony
Similar to above WC Melody
Rene is in a different snake pattern (the second) with the note in row 2 offset (from pos3 to pos2 since row 2 goes backwards in pattern 2)
Variation on the Woggle modulation including mixing it with a slow LFO

"303ish"
Standard VCF303 patch with some wiggling
Rubicon as VCO, uVCA as VCA
Cooked in tubes in the Source+Plus

Bandpass
Rubicon sigmoid to Polaris in BP
Modulated by PEG and ADSR2
uVCA enveloped by ADSR1

Strum
It's not up in the mix but during the breaks where the Bandpass is playing there's a sequence from the Rene running double speed through the STO shape modulated by Wogglebug STEPPED into the Optomix struck and opened by Maths

FM Hash
Sputnik 1 FM'ing Sputnik 2 into the Optomix (no strike no envelope) via Timbre modulated by Seq1 LFO
FM through uVCA enveloped by Seq1 LFO iirc (sorry spotty patch notes on this one)"

Modular Jam 56 "Rubber Band"

Published on Jul 8, 2016 ngarjuna

"Patch Notes:
Band Pass Lead Patches
Sequencer 1 driving Rubicon
SIGMOID out to Polaris BPF
2 variations: 'clean' is fully driven with distortion off; 'dirty' is not as clipped but distortion is turned on
Modulated by Rene UNQ and PEG-ADSR-Maths (cycling quickly) via Maths SUM
MULTI out to uVCA enveloped by ADSR
Modulation sources are identical between the 'clean' and 'dirty' variants with small adjustments to CUTOFF/CV, RESO and DRIVE as needed
At the very end I left an A-B-A-B between clean and dirty (clean @ 5:10 & 5:41 , dirty @ 5:26 & 5:56)
All distortion on the bandpass lead is from Polaris itself

Modular Jam 54 "Ditto That"

Published on Jun 14, 2016 ngarjuna

"Drums in Sector (iOS): I tossed 4 reps of the drum loop (Jamstix-AD) into Sector and then setup a probabilistic grid with a fairly straight version of the loop on the bottom of the circle and various effects and glitches on the top of the circle. The grid lines determine whether the pattern will step to the next sector (clockwise starting from 3:00) or jump to one of its possible variant sectors on the top.

Acid Voices
Sequencer 1 driving Rubicon sigmoid
Into the VCF 303 enveloped by itself and modulated by PEG (both channels combined in Maths)

Sputnik 2 FM'ing the Rubicon (dynamic via Maths ch4 being Fall modulated by Sequencer 1)
Maths ch1 (very slowly) cycling CV into the extra exponential input (with attenuverter part way up into positive)
Rubicon triangle out into the Timbre modulated by Sequencer 1

FM Hash Percussion Voices
Rene driving Sputniks and STO
258 FM'ing itself from SUB (dynamically via double PEG [OR] and Optomix or uVCA)
