Breakaway Vocalizer 1000 Voice Controlled Music Synthesizer w/ Cartridges

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"There are NO cords included with this unit. It does include 1 Rockaway SmartSongs Jam Patterns by David Sparks and 2 brand new sealed Blank Recording Cartridges."

The Vocalizer has built-in, background stereo songs that you can jam along with. These songs, called SmartSongs Jam Patterns, have special, built-in intelligence that automatically activates the Voice Guide, which tells the unit which notes to allow. Voice Guide works exclusively with SmartSongs.

Each SmartSongs Jam Pattern contains drums, bass, and chord patterns. The built-in SmartSongs feature beginnings, middle sections that continually replay, and pre-recorded special finales ("Endings"). Hundreds of SmartSongs Jam Patterns will be available soon on special cartridges.

Pick your favorite instrument (by pressing one of the green buttons) and choose one of the built-in SmartSongs, for example, Rock 1. Now slide your voice's pitch up and down, like a siren. Since Voice Guide is automatically activated, the Vocalizer will turn your vocal sliding into hot instrumental leads."

Moog 16-Channel Vocoder MBVO SN 0028

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Moog 16-Channel MBVO reissued Vocoder in mint / as new condition, serial number 0028. According to the distributor, only 100 of these units will ever be made by Moog. Vintage units currently sell for $10k+, so the window of opportunity is closing fast on these. This is a new unit fresh from the Moog factory that arrived here at our studio a few weeks ago. With the MBVO reissue, Moog have recreated the original 70's vocoder while improving on the power supply to make it much more reliable for the longterm. This unit will last for some time, and sounds amazing! You can hear it used all over Saga recordings, Giorgio Moroder, etc.

The very earliest MBVO reissues had an issue with the front panel graphics that was quickly resolved by Moog. That is not the case with this unit. Front graphics are perfect. Box was opened to verify functionality. Unit was never rackmounted. All patch cords are still sealed, as is the manual and signed certificate. The unit is still under warranty with Moog and will be transferred to the new owner after they receive it (new owner will need to open an account with Moog Music)."

Synthesizer von Gestern (Synths of the Past) Vol 2, Matthias Becker.

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Beautifully-produced second volume of Matthias Becker's authoritative 'Synthesizers of the Past' book - in German, but with so many superb illustrations that it's hardly necessary to read the text. New, unused, still sealed. The photos were taken of another copy of the book.

Too many highlights to mention all, but the book covers such absolute classic synths as the Trautonium, ARP 2500, EMS Synthi 100, E-mu Modular, Steiner-Parker Synthacon, RMI Harmonic Synthesizer, Birotron, PPG 1002, Moog Taurus and Liberation, Roland System 700, Synlab Modular, Roland SH-7, Crumar DS-2, Korg Sigma, ARP Quadra, Roland RS-505 and VP-330, Fairlight CMI, Realton Variophon, Oberhaim OB-Xa, Xpander and OB-SX, Gleeman Pentaphonic, RSF Kobol, Emulator 1, Synergy, Roland SH-101, TB-303, TR-606, MC-202, Jupiter 6, Syntec Banana, SCI Prophet T8, OSCar......... an incredible roster which would (in the beautiful condition they are in the photos) probably now be worth over half a million US dollars.

All with superb photos by Dieter Stork. Hardback, beautifully printed on very high quality paper, bound to the highest standards. A coffee-table book which is also a superb source of information. The Rolls-Royce (OK, Mercedes) of synth literature. (I should know - I produced the Ford Fiestas of the genre.) ISBN 3927954012, printed in 1995."

MACBETH M5 Semi-Modular Analog Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is the Original M5 with the black & orange colour scheme, as used for the later version ARP 2600.

Note that whilst it looks like a later model Rev.3 ARP2600, the M5's sound is both Moog and Oberheim inspired.

[Update: note the lawsuit mentioned below never happened. There was contention over the filter but it never got to that.  via Wikipedia: "Early versions contained an imitation of Robert Moog's 4-pole 'ladder' VCF, later the subject of a threatened (though ultimately nonexistent) lawsuit"Also the epoxy covered modules were likely more for performance reasons. Not sure if it was to stabilize temperature and to isolate the modules. See the comments at the bottom of this post for more.]

The original ARP 2600 (Blue Meanie model) that many/most claim sounds best of the 2600's, stole the Moog filter design of course, hence epoxy sealed units, lawsuit, 4072 ARP filter redesign, etc... Plus, the M5 actually dwarfs the 2600 in overall height + size. This M5 is one of around 90 (I think) of the original versions that were hand made between 2005/6, so only 14-15 years old compared with over 40 for a 2600.

It has great build quality courtesy of Ken McBeth. No tiny slider tops or mini jack sockets to fiddle with... On a practical note you can get multiple (man sized) finger tips between the slider tops for patching/mixing/modulation purposes. A joy to play with as you can easily see all patch points, sources, destinations, signal flow, etc.

As regards stability & tuning, many older analogue synths had & still do have problems with these factors. This M5 tunes very accurately and holds tune throughout every session, nor is this dependent on whether it's hot or not - inside or out, as was the downside of many old analogue synths, though it's appreciated some do like such instability... I prefer to start off with known stability & increase detuning/instability if/when needed. There is even a stability pot on Osc#3 for dialing in that effect when required, except it's under your control and not at the mercy of other elements...

IMO the M5 is sonically much more powerful and versatile than the 2600, based on the dual filter type design alone.

EMS Putney VCS3 MKI

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"It was built in the late 60's/early 70's. It is an early version with the silver knob caps, MKI boards, best sounding VCO's, etc. The front panel is extremely clean and the lettering isn't worn off as you find on a lot of these. All silver caps are accounted for (which seems to be quite rare). It is working perfectly and ready to go to a new home...

The VCS3 had been refurbished with several upgrades and mods to bring it into the 2020 era:

1) Faulty/scratchy pots that were erratic and flakey were replaced with much better/smoother ALPS replacements that have a really nice feeling and are extremely accurate. These are much superior to the ones offered by Hinton Electronics which have a scratchy feel when you turn them.
2) Sync switches and knobs were added to front panel to allow syncing between 2>3, 1>3, 1>2, which really opens up the flexibility of the synth
3) A switch was added to allow the filter response to be changed from 24db to 12db for different tones
4) 1/8" jacks were added to front panel to allow for external voltage control and interfacing with modern modular synths. Specifically: for voltage control of filter and all three VCO's. These additional inputs make this VCS3 a great addition to any eurorack or traditional modular setup as you can easily send voltages into the VCS3 from other gear for processing.
5) The case was refinished in a matte finish. The looks is very sharp!
6) Some components were upgraded on the voicecards. I don't have a list of everything that was done over the years, so please see the photos. New trimmers were added for rock solid adjustments.
7) Power connection was changed from the original mini Bulgin connector (very difficult to source the power cord for this) to a standard IEC connector (standard AC power cord)
8) Vernier dial pots were upgraded with precision pots based on Hinton recommendations
9) Internal power supply switch was changed to domestic US voltage, so it runs at the standard 120v. Can easily be switched back to 220v Euro.
10) A switch was added to allow VCO3 to be run as an LFO, or for standard voicing use.

Known issues: 1) There are a couple hairline cracks in the case that have been repaired and sealed during the refinishing process. They are solid and nothing to worry about. 2) This synth does not have the tuning stabilization mod on Board C. Honestly I wondered about getting this done before I purchased it, but once I used it, I saw no need to get the mod done. 3) There is a very small hairline crack in the bottom right of the plastic meter (barely visible). 4) Front panel is extremely clean, but there are a couple light marks in the cream finish in spots.

Comes with: A) VCS3 B) Power cord) C) fourteen patch pins: yellow (5), white (3), red (3), black (3). D) spare reverb tank E) copies of VCS3 manual."

ARP 2600 2601 Synthesizer Restored+FutureProofed!

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This unit was disassembled, cleaned inside and out, meticulously serviced AND FUTURE-PROOFED and fully and repeatedly tested by vintage synth specialists with decades of experience (us). This process required 31 hours of skilled labor. The result is an ARP 2601 that is much better than the rest.

This unit is working perfect, is ready to play, and will hopefully outlast all others.

In addition to any repairs, we did the following work to this unit:

-Fully disassembled, cleaned inside and out.
-Power supply rebuilt: new capacitors and trimpots.
-All tantalum capacitors replaced (these are a common source of failure in ARPs).
-ARP typically installed rubber gromets in between the reverb tank and wooden enclosure of their 2600s. For some reason, there were no gromets installed in this unit, so we installed new ones.
-All sliders and switches cleaned and lubricated.
-Molex connector terminals replaced for better connection.
-Keyboard fully rebuilt: removed and cleaned all keys, cleaned J-wires, removed and cleaned bus bars, replaced rubber bushings.
-Replaced Cinch-Jones keyboard connector socket.
-Recalibrated.
-Replaced some metal hardware (screws, jack nut, etc).
-Burn in test.
-Multiple systematic tests of all functions.

Earlier revisions of the 2600 are notorious for having their modules sealed in black epoxy. This late version 2601's circuits are all open, so if a component ever goes bad, repair should be easy..."

ARP 2600 Modular Synthesizer SN 26690 & 36710

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"We meticulously refurbished this 2600 in an attempt to future proof it and to make it better than others you may find. This included the following work:

Replaced all faders and slider caps with brand new ones, so all faders work great, with no crackle at all (our cost for these parts was nearly $500)
Rebuilt power supply in an attempt to greatly extend its life.
Replaced synth section handle with similar one.
Replaced tantalum caps as a preventative measure to greatly extend this units life.
Replaced reverb tank rubber bushings.
Replaced rubber bushings in keyboard.
Cleaned keyboard J-wires and bus bars.
Resoldered feet of all modules.
Replaced Cinch Jones connector.
Replaced 3 4027-1 and 1 4015 submodules with our tech's exact replicas so future repairs will be possible (the originals are sealed and cannot be opened for servicing).
Corrected mistakes made at the factory (a couple connections were never soldered!)
The tolex was a bit chewed up along the edges, so we used a black marker to color the wood where it was showing. Replacing the tolex is possible but we're unfortunately not set up to do that here, so we will leave that decision up to the buyer.
Lengthy burn in test, systematically tested multiple times and working perfectly.
...and more.

This work required a total of 30 hours of skilled labor.

The synth section comes with a lid, though it appears to have come from a later 2600 as the tolex does not match. The keyboard section comes without a lid. Sale includes power cord and new Cinch Jones keyboard connector cable."

Vintage Optigan Light Organ LOT - Many Original Discs SEALED + Song Books RARE

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Gay 90s Songs in there!

"This is an amazing opportunity to own a fantastic lot of rare, original Optigan discs & song books - all from the early 1970's.

This lot is 25 pieces in total -

12 discs & 13 books.

9 of the discs are in mint condition, STILL SEALED in the original factory shrinkwrap.

(The shrinkwrap of one of the sealed discs has been torn, but the side where the sleeve opens remains intact)

2 of the discs ("Bossa Nova" & "Easy Does it wth Vibes") are opened & appear to be in fantastic condition. The only flaw I could see is a tiny indentation on one of the discs.

There's also another disc (not pictured) that I found in my vinyl collection & am including in this lot. It's in a clear sleeve & appears to be in excellent condition.

The songbooks vary from good to excellent used condition, some yellowing, shelf wear, & a few have minor pen/pencil marks."

John Bowen Solaris SN 0364

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction, also on Reverb

Update via Z in the comments: "That first photo of the Solaris with the SCI gear is MY PHOTO of MY GEAR."

Note the Solaris has four oscillators, not 3 as stated in this listing, and they are digital, not discrete. I'm guessing by discrete, they mean fully featured, routable, independent oscillators. The Solaris is about as close as it gets to a fully modular poly synth. It's more flexible than most. You can freely assign and route the different components of the synth vs. being stuck on a set path. Check out http://www.johnbowen.com for details.

"Groundbreaking audiophile digital poly, 3 [4] discrete full-range DCOs per voice.

- 7th-generation, this unit is less than one week old.
I received this unit today from Germany.(8.19.19)
- The unit is still sealed in the factory box and has NOT
been opened (see photos #4 & 5)
- John Bowen has assured me the warranty on this unit is transferable and will be 100% honored. I will provide his contact info if you need to confirm.
- This unit's serial # 0364
- This black-faced unit has the optional backlit pitch/modwheels and newly offered OLED screens.(those options cost extra $$)

The entire 2019 run is sold out. I rarely ever see these for sale. I waited 13-months for this one. Don't miss out on a rare opportunity."

Innovex Hammond Condor RSM Wind Instrument Synth w/ Instructions and Extras

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"THIS SALE IS FOR A VERY RARE INNOVEX HAMMOND CONDOR RSM WIND INSTRUMENT SYNTHESIZER. THIS WAS MADE IN THE 1970s, BUT STILL USED TODAY BY SOME INNOVATIVE ARTIST'S.

I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THIS UNIT ORIGINALLY CAME WITH, SO I CAN'T SAY IT'S COMPLETE. BUT, I WILL LIST THE ITEMS INCLUDED WITH THIS SALE.

THE "CONDOR" RSM UNIT. THIS IS A SELF CONTAINED LOCKING UNIT THAT COMES WITH 2 ORIGINAL KEYS.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS.

3 MODIFIED MOUTHPIECES - TRUMPET, CLARINET, & SAXOPHONE. THESE HAVE ALL BEEN MADE TO ACCEPT A SMALL MICROPHONE IN ORDER TO PLAY THROUGH THIS UNIT.

THERE ARE 3 MICROPHONES, SHURE BROTHERS CA20B's, WHICH WERE NOT SOLD TO SHURE DEALERS, ONLY TO HAMMOND FOR THIS UNIT.

HERE'S SOME MORE INFO ON THESE MICS & THIS SYNTH:

The CA20B was manufactured by Shure from 1968 to 1970. The CA20B had a ceramic transducer element with an output level of -73 dB V at 94 dB SPL / One Pascal. It was sold only to the Innovex division of the Hammond Organ Company. The CA20B was not sold to Shure dealers.

The CA20B attached to the mouthpiece of a wind instrument, like a trumpet, clarinet, or sax. A hole was drilled into the side of the mouthpiece. A brass adapter, with an internal rubber O-ring, was threaded into this hole. The CA20B then threaded into this adapter. The unbalanced, high impedance output signal from the CA20B was carried on a 60" cable terminated in a tip/sleeve 1/8" phone plug. The phone plug connected to the Condor RSM Wind Instrument Synthesizer, made by Innovex. The Condor was based on the electronics of the Hammond orgran and could produce a variety of sounds and effects using the wind instrument as the trigger source. Examples of settings on the Condor: Bass Sax, Fuzz, Cello, Oboe, Tremolo, Vibrato, Bassoon, etc. If the player wanted to use the instrument acoustically, the CA20B would be unthreaded from the adapter and replaced by a brass cap that sealed the side hole in the mouthpiece.

The Condor was not a success and Shure made few of the CA20B. Some players continued to use the CA20B as a horn pick up, connecting it to the input of a guitar amp. Other model numbers associated with the CA20B were CA20, CA20A, RD7458, and 98A132B.

THERE ARE ALSO 2 COVERS FOR THE MICROPHONE HOLES ON THE MOUTHPIECES. THEY ARE INTER-CHANGEABLE.

AND 2 SMALL PADDED ENVELOPES TO HOLD YOUR ACCESSORIES.

AS FAR AS TESTING, I ONLY KNOW THAT IT POWERS ON, AS YOU CAN SEE FROM MY PICS. I ALSO GOT A LITTLE REVERB WHEN ATTACHED TO AN EXTERNAL AMP.

THIS IS NOT AN AMPLIFIER! ONE IS REQUIRED TO MAKE THIS FUNCTIONAL."

Moog Etherwave PLUS Theremin | With CV Synth Control

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The "PLUS" adds external CV pitch and volume 1/4" outputs located on the bottom of the instrument. You can use this feature to great effect to control external MOOG synths as well as anything else that takes a CV input.

Includes everything from the original packaging including the sealed Clara Rockmore DVD and the small red etherwave internal calibration tool.

The original box is also included but unfortunately it was used to pack and ship the unit by the original seller, so it is in less than perfect condition. The instrument itself however looks and plays great and has been fully tested. You will have a lot of fun with this, especially if you have some external gear to control with it."

Roland MC-202 MicroComposer w/ Original Box

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"I have an original Roland MC-202 MicroComposer analog synthesizer which comes in its original box and contents. I purchased this in Japan and the previous owner barely used it! The MC-202 is in excellent condition and even comes with original sealed manuals and original Roland factory cable which are unused.

For those who may not be familiar, the Roland MC-202 was a hybrid between the Roland SH-101 synthesizer and a MC-4 MicroComposer released in 1983. The design concept was that users could use the MC-202 to program up to 2 other analog synthesizers via its mini keyboard sequencer via 2 CV/Gate outputs or use the built-in SH-101 analog sound generator in a portable Walkman-like battery operated device.

The MC-202 is excellent for programming eurorack modular gear and interfacing with other Roland x0x equipment. It is a favorite of Aphex Twin, Autechre, Daft Punk and many others..."

Osage Organ Vector Synthesizer -Ellitone-

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
Published on May 11, 2019
Update: Re-Published on May 22, 2019

via this auction

"The -Osage Organ- from Ellitone Instruments is a Polyphonic (15 Voice) Digital (32-bit) Wavetable Vector Synthesizer.

The Power and Unique Tonalities created by this Instrument Derive from its ability to Dynamically Crossfade or "Morph" between 4 different Waveform Shapes in realtime.

The Control Interface for this Synthesizer is arranged into 3 paneled sections, these 3 sections consist of 2 Identical -Vector Chord-Engines- and a Middle Panel for Global Pitch Settings.

Each of these Vector Chord-Engines are essentially a complete and independent polyphonic vector synthesizer by themselves. Interesting tones and textures are created by mixing and layering the 2 Vector Chord-Engines together.

"This Pro-One is working well and sounds fantastic. Physically it is in great shape with slight signs of use (some tape on the electrical cord, not much beyond that). At some point the mod-wheel appears to have been cracked then sealed back together. This version is the most desirable with the J-wire keybed and chassis-mounted transformer."
