Tips n' Tricks: Generating Rhythms Using the Moog Mother-32's LFO

Published on May 29, 2018 Alastair Wilson

"Welcome back to another tutorial, this time for the Mother 32!

In this video, we use the M32's onboard LFO to generate swing, followed by modulating the sequencer's tempo to get interesting rhythms. Combined with other modulation and the step sequencing of the M32, you can add some great evolving rhythmic variation to your sequence to keep it interesting for longer."

Yamaha CS80 Sustain & Portamento test

Published on May 29, 2018 Michael Geyre

"after some requests regarding the Deckard clone, i've made that short video where i'm testing reactions of Global Sustain 1/2 compared to user presets release
pretty interesting, as it shows:
- when adding global sustain, it adds on both vcf/vca
- sustain 1/2 switch is functionning when you add release on your user preset
- release is a bit longer when using the one on user presets (than global release)
i've been using that instrument for 20 years, i'm still amazed by its sound and expressiveness
Ribbon is active on all notes in sustain 2 mode, only on played (not released) notes in sustain mode 1"

Visit Jonas Rathsman's chemistry lab-turned-studio in Gothenburg

Published on May 29, 2018 FACTmagazine

"Jonas Rathsman is an integral part of Sweden's house and techno scene. He’s been releasing music since 2013 when he debuted on French Express. He hasn’t stopped since, with releases on Diynamic, Crosstown Rebels, Mobilee and his own ELEMENTS imprint.

Having spent nearly all his life around Sweden's second city, Gothenburg, Rathsman decided to build his own studio complex in an abandoned chemistry lab. Obviously, we jumped at the chance to have a full tour."

THEREMIN & SYNTH -Thereminator - eurorack module by WaveLicker

Published on May 29, 2018 Therminal C I C Ehinger

'Swiss company WaveLicker (http://www.wavelicker.com) designed Thereminator specially for interfacing a theremin to synthesizers. It is a eurorack module that takes the control voltage signal of the theremin’s antennas and convert it into 3 gate and 3 trigger signals. Up to three different tresholds points can be edited and stored. This is great, because you can adjust the distance (= where in space the trig happens) without changing your theremin playing settings.

You can patch it with the pitch or with the volume antenna CV. In this video, i used the volume antenna only because i find it easier to get a musical application with it.

Alain Gillièron - the boss of WaveLicker - created Thereminator on my request. He made an external gate for my theremin about a year ago. It boosted my creativity and totally changed my solo theremin performance : i am not using any playback nor computer device on stage anymore. I can play synth and my theremin simulteanously.
So, we decided to improve this device and develop a eurorack module, so that other people can have access to this "augmented" theremin playing.

I am totally addicted to this module! I am very thankful to Alain Gillièron, all the energy and time he dedicated to this project.

I've been testing the prototype for a 3 months and I made 5 patch to show different ideas.
00:51 Patch#1 - drums playing
01:08 Patch#2 - shoot & freeze sample
01:43 Patch#3 - it rings
03:23 Patch#4 - step by step
04:20 Patch#5 - percussive ADSR

Thereminator is pretty simple to use. A calibration is requested before using it, to assure full compatibility with your theremin. After that, it is just a matter of pratice : theremin playing is very subtle and sensitive, so using Thereminator accurately also require some training.

Mixjam1 movie

Published on May 29, 2018 e-pleasure

"A Jam with a mixture of Instruments, this time only a small modular part with the Arpeggio sound from the fantastic lil'Erebus from Dreadbox. This sound is a little mit compressed by a sidechain-gate coming from the deluge to a wmd compressor.

The Arpeggio is programmed in the ER-101, transposed over ER-102 by a cv from the Deluge. Drums and bassline also programmed in the also fantastic Synthstrom Deluge. Lead played by a nonskilled player on the Dominion1 for MFB.

There's a Limiter on the sum and in the end I had to made a little volume automation because of the high output of the feedback in the echo of the erebus ;-) What a cool little echo!"

Moog Sub-Harmonicon, DFAM, and uBraids: Four to the Floor

Published on May 28, 2018 JAkoGreyshire

"I was exploring the Sub-Harmonicon one night and thought that this section of the jam was somewhat suitable to post on YouTube..

It's not the best jam musically as some of the drops and mixing of parts is choppy at best but, overall it's intended as a description of how the Sub-Harmonicon sits and feels in relation to other parts within a musical context.

The Intellijel Mixup is a new module for me. Next time I'll have more time to rehearse and make some music that will not present any foibles.

As a side note I discovered a cool trick with the Moogfest 2017 edition DFAM and a clocked square wave LFO into the VCA V input.."

Which do you prefer??
There is a simple comparison chart at the end of the video for someone that might debate the pros and cons (analog vs digital notwithstanding you merciless BEASTS!)"
